OMG! This is working!! I saw the photo of the woodpecker next to this unit. My little demon is just that, much smaller and cuter--but the holes made are NOT funny.One drawback--you need an outlet os be ready with a long extension cord. I also had to reposition it, as the decibles were higher than allowed.

I have to be honest. Bought several of these through the years. We have a 3-story white stucco house the woodpeckers have been eating away at for decades. We have spent thousands trying to deter them. This particular product, the manufacturer is terrific, but this purchase didn’t make my woodpeckers flinch. Sorry Amazon, while it says it’s for woodpeckers, it is not. Especially not ‘the real McCoy’ if you have woodpeckers tearing your home into Swiss cheese. I actually threw the Amazon one out. For about the same price the one that only has ‘woodpeckers’ as it’s ONLY feature bird is the only one for woodpeckers.By the way, it says they are waterproof but they are not. We put ours in an out door cabinet on our 2nd story deck with a hole in back of the cabinet to let woodpecker sounds out and it needs to detect day from night. Being in the cabinet just means it shuts off earlier in the day than if outside. But hasn’t been an issue.

We had to turn this off for a couple of weeks and in that time woodpeckers returned to the house and caused some damage to the siding. Once we got it back up and running, the pecking stopped and they haven't returned. Really like that it has a daylight sensor so it requires no user intervention to stay effective.

I almost didn't want to post this for fear of jinxing a good result, but I my neighbors and I have had a severe woodpecker problem for years, and after replacing siding and painting and seeing 4 more new holes, I had to do something. Time will tell, but (fingers crossed) it seems to be working. I read the other reviews, and when I received the Bird-X I selected the downy woodpecker distress call and 1 of the 4 predators. I set it out on my deck pointed partially at my back yard and partially at the woods behind my house where the woodpeckers (I have both downy and hairy) tend to hang out when they are not making swiss cheese of my siding. I kept the volume at about 1/2 level, and it seems to be doing the trick. One caveat: I am using this in conjunction with several other deterrents-- A "prowler owl" that has moving wings, windsocks and chimes at each corner of the house under the eaves, and a stationary owl that I move around. I am not sure which is working, but something is. Not a hint of pecking anywhere, and my neighbors have commented that they haven't seen any woodpeckers in the area since I started using these deterrents about 2 weeks ago. The Bird-X is a bit pricey, and I am not sure if alone it would do the job, but in concert with the other deterrents I'm using it's certainly been effective so far.One quibble with other reviewers... one mentioned that you can select from 8 different predator calls and one mentioned the importance of identifying the correct woodpecker... There are actually only 4 predator calls on this unit, and 4 bird distress calls (Northern Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker & House Sparrow). To me, that gives me only 1 choice of woodpecker (Downy). I suppose the other birds may be of the woodpecker family (house sparrow??), but I have 2 different species of actual woodpeckers attacking my house. So far the Downy distress call seems to be effective to deter both species. Not sure how long thawill hold up, but I'm hopeful. Also, knowing which predators are which in relation to the dip switches would be helpful... the manual only states "Predator I-IV"...not very helpful. I have been playing around with various combos of predators and the downy distress call. I guess the lack of a better explanation of the predator calls and the inclusion of only 1 woodpecker distress call is my reason for only 4 stars.Bottom line... it's costly, but far less costly than replacing or repairing siding, and safer than having to continually go up on a 22 foot ladder to fix holes.

Successfully drove away the woodpecker that was making holes in the EIFS stucco on the side of our house. However, after a full winter outside, the sound became scratchy and full of static. Since the unit appears to be weather-sealed, I was somewhat disappointed that it only lasted one season.

I bought this to drive away a woodpecker that developed affinity to wood trim on my chimney. As soon as I turned it on, it drove away the pecker.

Had had no impact on woodpeckers, but it did affect hawks to the area and annoyed all me neighbors. Not effective for woodpeckers in the slightest.
