This tool makes cleaning raw shrimp so much easier
I love this tool. It makes cleaning raw shrimp sooooo much easier. My only complaint is that it's a bit flimsy, which is why I had to make this second purchase in less than 3 years. But, considering its price, I'm very pleased with it.

Not so good for large BOILED shrimp.
I haven't used it yet for fresh shrimp but it didn't do well with Large BOILED shrimp. The device should have serrated edges to help cut the shell top and bottom. As it is now you just keep forcing the tool into the shrimp until internal pressure Bursts (not cuts) the shell. I'll keep it to see if it works better with raw shrimp. If not, it goes in the garbage. I ended up using regular Fiskar sewing scissors and it did a pretty good job. Much easier than hand peeling or using the SCI Deveiner.

Simple but works great!
Ok, I am a wimp. I always lose my appetite after deveining shrimp. I had three pounds of shrimp to prep and wanted to enjoy them, so I set out to look for a tool to do the job. Thanks to other reviewers, I chose this one. After I received it in the mail I searched for a video on the web that showed how to use it, Super easy. Went through 3 pounds of shrimp in five minutes and didn't lose my appetite. Recommend this over the one with the serrated edge, which only shreds the delicate meat of the crustacean.

Makes peeling and deveining simple
I wish I'd known how to use this properly when I bought it because it's amazing once you figure out the proper way to use it. I have to thank Sheila for her review suggesting we look at this video on You Tube; Donna at Rainbow Gardens. Before seeing her "how to peel and devein shrimp" video I was getting ready to give this amazing tool a less than perfect review and toss the deveiner in the trash. I feel so stupid because we were painfully slow at removing the shells before using the deveiner to try and push the vein out. We were blown away after learning how quickly and easily this peels and deveins the shrimp ! We are having shrimp tomorrow now that we know it will only take a few minutes to peel and devein the pound of shrimp we have in the freezer. This Shrimp Deveiner is my new favorite tool. I love the reviews on Amazon, they are so helpful.

A good one
I live on the coast of Brazil and we eat a lot of shrimp. We had been using the Oxo which is good but I thought I would try this one just because of the ratings. I did not think it would work very well because it looks so long. I was wrong. I was very surprised at how comfortable and natural this felt in my hand. If I need another this is the brand I will purchase. The way it works is that you break the head off of the shrimp. Then you put the tool between the shell and the meat on the top of the shrimp. Now you just push towards the tail. The tool cracks the shell, puts a small slice in the top of the shrimp where the vein is (usually pulls it out but sometimes you have to pick it up) and when the tool hits the back of the tail, it pulls everything off of the shrimp. I usually wash the yellow stuff off after I break the head off and that takes longer than the veining and shelling.

This tool provides a simple and easy way to shell (peel) and devein raw shrimp
This tool provides a simple and easy way to shell (peel) and devein raw shrimp. Insert the tip of the tool just below the shell where the head was attached to the shrimp body. Pull the shrimp toward you and the tool will both shell and devein the shrimp, although you might have to use just a little bit of extra effort at times to completely remove the sand vein.I owned one of these for about 20 years before the tip broke off and I bought another just like it (this purchase). It is well worth the relatively low price. It cleans up easily and stores readily in any drawer.Highly recommended to help save time when dealing with raw shrimp that need to be peeled and deveined. Takes only a slight bit of practice to develop a feel for the tool.
