Good for getting information on whether you have mold and what kind
Easy to use. Easy to determine type of mold strain and colony size. Lab processed quickly and provided results sooner than expected. This kit does provide the information and then you can locate an EPA approved mold mitigation specialist to remediate if you know where the mold is growing.

A must for California Renters!
If you are a RENTER in CALIFORNIA with a MOLD problem; then you already know you need to get your landlord's permission to have a home or mold inspection done. That defeats the whole purpose of protecting your family's health, your pets and household items. CA is known to protect criminals! I ordered 3 of these kits. Read the instructions carefully and make sure you are organized when collecting your samples; if not for them but for you. Mark the room/location you got the sample from and Q-tip or dish sample. There is another fee for each sample you send the lab. But remember, this is the only way YOU can be in charge of getting the information that you need! I was very impressed with the results I received back. Each result had the name of the mold, a brief description and how much was measured on the sample that was sent to them.

Very Deceptive Description - You Spend a Minimum of $80 for Results, Not $10
I have a few serious concerns about this product. First, don't think you are going to pay the $10 for the kit and be done with it after using the kit. This is a much more extensive, and much more expensive, process. First, you are going to need two of these so if you do choose to go this route, order two kits. This is because the lab you send it to is going to require two. One is used as a control. Second, you have to pay an additional $30 for testing of each kit (so $20 for two kits and $30 x 2 for the testing of those kits). That brings the total to $80 to test one area and not $10 as the packaging and description would have you believe. With that being said, if you are well aware of what you are getting into cost wise and what you need and you want to proceed, the process is rather simple. You place the dish in your vent and then send it to the lab if it grows mold (and it will grow mold no matter what, it is just what type of mold is growing that you need to concern yourself with). I would have given this product four stars if a few things were different. First, they need to be more up front about the process and costs and second, they really should include two dishes in each order and not one considering you need two to get any results. If you are expecting to get results for $10, you are throwing your money away.

happy with this kit!
i know that there was and is mold in my apartment, i've seen it and this place has had a lot of water damage. i just didn't know how harmfull mold could be until i started getting sick. now i know i have been getting sick since i moved in here... which was 6 years ago. i had a cough recently that wouldn't stop, had a chest x ray that showed severe inflamation, have had swollen lymph glands, spots in my throat, memory loss, hair falling out.. you name it. a friend of mine said to me one day about 2 months ago.. "didn't you say you had mold in that apartment? you know that stuff can make you very sick and even kill you". i talked to my doctor and she said if i knew what kind of mold it was they could test my blood. so i got this kit. it took a long time to actually get there after i did the test and sent it, i don't know why. i sent it early november and they didn't get it until the 18th. i had the results on the 30th and i had the mold that i suspicioned. i looked them all up (there were 3). the report failed to say how toxic these molds can really be. they say they are rarely reported as pathogens but i think that means the symptoms are diagnosed as something else. i asked that question and no one would answer me. from what i have read and studied the past several months.. yes there is mold everywhere but there is toxic mold in most of our public buildings, schools and homes. and it's attributed to other things cause god forbid that we have to tear down millions of buildings because they are killing us all. watch "dr andrew campbell and the effects of mycotoxins on the human body". it's on utube and it will scare the hell out of you. do you know that in the late 90s a study was done in this country on people that had chronic respiratory issues and over 90 percent of the them were from mold toxicity? do you know that canada saw this study and retrained ALL of their health care providers to be aware and educated and to look for mold toxicity in patients with symptoms and NOT blow it off as something else? what happened in the us where the study was done? hidden from the public and NO training or education to ANY medical professionals. we are all sick form this crap and no one talks about it, there are only a few states in the us that have any laws in place to protect renters that live in mold infested dwellings. in my state, the department that dealt with indoor air quality and mold was closed due to budget cuts. if you want anything done, you do it yourself, landlords don't even have to disclose and they don't have to clean it up. i have never been sick in my life until i moved here. people should be outraged and demand that this issue be a top priority in this country! if this stuff is in my blood (which i'm sure it is) i am looking for a lawyer. my landlord has known for a very long time that his buildings have mold in them and he has done nothing. as far as this kit goes. it tells you clearly that you will have to have a lab test the mold. if you had a true self test kit it would have to include a microscope and a a book that you would have to read and educate yourself thoroughly on and it would probably cost thousands of dollars, get real. how else do you think you are going to get a result? those cheap self test kits tell you you have mold, they don't tell you what it is. a lab needs to do that. all and all i was very pleased other than the time frame. i'm sure they are extremely busy since more and more people are finding out how dangerous this stuff can be. i did the research ahead of time and they were recommended as the best home kit on the market. crappy customer service doesn't mean a crappy product.

Now, Open Your Walletโฆ
In order to get results, after purchasing and exposing the product to your environment, you have to pay an additional $40 to have the kit analyzed and receive a report. Furthermore, if you want to see if the air inside your home has more mold than is usual for where you live, you have to purchase an additional kit (the same +$40 applies) and expose it to the air outside your house. All-in, youโll pay $30 for two kits and $80 for the analysis. Just sayinโ.

Useful results even without sending to the lab. Here are my counts if you want to compare.
I bought nine kits for about $10 each so I could get wide coverage around the house. After 48 hours incubation there was no mold visible in any of them. After 96 hours, they all had mold growths. I counted the number of mold growths in them, and the results were: The two outside samples had 13 and 9 growths. The garage sample had 7 growths The attic had 5 growths Five samples from the living areas all had 4 growths, except the master closet with 3 growths. Since the outdoor samples had more than twice the mold as the indoor samples, this test gave me confidence that I don't have an indoor mold problem. I didn't send any to the $40/sample lab. You might consider spending your money on more kits rather than just buying 1 or 2 and sending them to the lab. I used electrical tape to seal the petri dishes to avoid any possibility of cross contamination, but the instructions don't say anything about taping them up.

Doesn't get better than this
Doesn't get better than this. Be aware that you do have to pay for lab test results. Duh! Of COURSE you have to pay for lab tests. This is the kit that puts it together and explains how to do it. There isn't a little botanist in the box to give you free lab results. We signed up on-line for email results, paid for expedited shipping to Florida, and expedited test results. The whole process took maybe 3 days. By submitting the nasty results to our landlord, they were all of a sudden eager to let us out of the lease. Without this, our landlord was claiming we were "going overboard," and "it's just mildew." Wrong. The results showed which mold species we're dealing with, and confirmed a medical diagnosis of sinus mold infection. You have two choices with this kit. You can take a sample out of your vacume cleaner bag and have them do a spore count, (I think they also tell you which species is included in the count) or you can take a sample of the actual mold you're concerned about and find out what species of mold you're dealing with. Or buy two kits and get them both, which is what we're doing. Among the concerns of living with mold is allergic reaction (stuffed up nose and other symptoms), mold GROWING in your body such as your lungs and sinuses, and mytotoxins that some molds give off which can have permanent health consequences. Find out which mold you're dealing with, then get a antigen blood test to see if THAT particular mold is impacting your health. Lots of steps, this mold kit is step one.

Mold Armor > ProLab
Ive used Mold Armor before but wanted to see if ProLab identified the specie, not just genus. The sample I sent had pink and white molds. I was confident one was Rhodotorula but unsure of the other. Only one was identified, Cladosporium. Perplexed, I looked up Cladosporium and it appears to commonly be black in color. I sent in nothing that looked like what I found in all that I researched. I also paid an extra $20 to get express results. I sent in the same samples to Mold Armor and it came back with Rhodotorula and Aspergillus. I believe these results with Mold Armor to be more accurate. The other thing that was extremely bothersome was ProLabs payment system. You can register online but payment needs to written down and sent with the sample. I would have preferred not having my credit card info in the mail.

Lab test not optional
This product should be more clear about the fact that it is completely useless without doing the $40 mail-in lab test.

Terrible product, the lab is in Florida
Terrible product, the lab is in Florida, so the prepaid postage didn't work, had to pay for myself. I used on top of what it looks like black mold, and somehow the test that you have to pay extra came negative, no mold?!?! I do not recommend.
