Stromberg Carlson VGD-02-4000 Louvered Tailgate

Easy install

The description stated that it was used but in very good condition, damaged box. It looked assembled when I pulled it out of the box but noticed right side (passenger side) frame hardly attached to the main tailgate. It was flopping around. So I took it apart to discover that it was missing two bolts. I also found a wood spacer that is suppose to be hot glued to the decorative plastic cover and a screw on the other side holds the decorative place in place. the spacer was laying loose and not glued anymore. The passenger side upper right corner frame was bent which was not noticeable until I took the cover off. I spent a couple of hours trying to find the right bolts and hot gluing the spacer back in place. I wouldn't say that it was in very good condition. Maybe fair condition since it needed work done to it. This item looks like it would be easy to install if it did not have missing parts or prior problems. I also think that the manufacture should reconsider how those spacers are hot glued in and find a better alternative solution that will not fall apart. If you buy this item new you may give it 4 or 5 stars however since I bought it used and the description did not match the actual product condition I only give it 3 stars and that's being generous. It would also be nice if I were offered a partial refund from the seller. Update: Amazon was great in their response and offered a partial refund and more. :)

I like the looks and for the most part, pretty simple install. I highly recommend the home inserts.Bad part, pretty cheaply made.Within a week, one of the pins broke between the louvers and mount.I’ve done nothing but install it on my 2012 Ram 3500 and drive, within a week I’m having to fix it.

After receiving a replacement part for the faulty driver side latch, the product performs as expected. I did have to remove and replace the faulty latch myself. A time consuming but not difficult. I avoided Amazons return policy by contacting the manufacturer directly and they offered to send a replacement part at no cost. Otherwise, I'd of had to return the entire tail gate and reorder another one. I applaud the manufacturer for their support. Thx

At first I thought I needed a special tool however taking a closer look gave me the confidence that it would take only minutes to get the old one off and this new one on, I read the instructions and it was a breeze took less than 20 minutes and it looks and works great, not as sturdy as I would of wanted but it does the trick and I don't have to worry about hooking up and disconnecting or forgetting to put the tailgate down anymore...Mark S.

It is a nice looking replacement for the stock gate, To my way of thinking it should be made of a more sturdy material and possibly have a little more either aluminum or steel there to give better support for standing on it. I like the way it installed and ease of adjustment for the latch and clasping pin met the truck, it fit nicely. The gate will do and hopefully give good service on my Old Ram Dually. And one final note you will always get what you pay for.

Product doesn't fit right in my 07 Ram 3500. There is a large gap on both sides and it barely is hanging on to the knobs. Driving on dirt roads daily will loosen the bolts, they couldn't both to lock-tite the bolts on the pre assembled parts!?! The parts that you assemble are cheaply made and don't fit right, lots of messing around to get it to fit. Looks better than it functions! Would not recommend or buy ever again, especially for this price.

When we started traveling in our travel trailer, we replaced the tailgate with a net so that we could offload a motorcycle that needed the tailgate removed. Over the years, we bought a 5th wheel trailer and needed the tailgate back but the old one was lost (long story). So I bought this one as a replacement with the notch for the 5th wheel. It's light and strong enough BUT you cant stand on it which is a bit of a hassle but I can live with that because it is so light to lift. It does lock with a key for some security.
