NeuroSky Brainwave Starter Kit (incl. MindWave Mobile)

This is my second device, the first failed after about a week, this one has also failed! Not as many apps as led to believe and advanced apps from Neurosky are 'expensive', and with a lack of confidence in the device working why spend more money. This had the potential to be amazing, but to me does not deliver.......

Not a bad product, it does read attention, meditation and blink, we developed a bluetooth app to send the data to MAX/MSP and graph it, but to be honest, you cannot control this device with your mind, its really a passive monitor, and can't be controlled well, we tested it as we wanted to use it to manipulate visuals in a dance project. Might be more useful if the data was cross referenced with a Galvanic Skin Response sensor and see if there is a connection. Fun device though and looks well designed.The device does pair pretty quickly, but uses bluetooth which is very dated, really should use wifi, or it should join your network, why manufacturers are still using bluetooth is beyond me.I might be a bit harsh here, but we expected more from the device after reading the hype, but its a start and the company have taken a good step forward, but it's no game controller, yet.The blink is a great idea, as it could be a code for switching devices, turning lights on/off, good for accessibility market, but its a bit clitchy.Overall its a good start, and it does not read your heartbeat as some have claimed. Might be an idea for marketing, i.e show a video and see how well you concentrated on the parts and overlay the data (a passive example), basically see what parts you had the most interest in.Anyone doing research can have a play and see for yourself.

Restricted usage with just one electrode.Expensive for what is it.No good free/cheap software. Never tried the expensive software as it is VERY expensive.Good idea, virtually no software support.Sometimes problems with the BT connection.

I got it to work fine with WIn7 - with all 3 of the provided apps.BUT on android, all the apps downloaded start, but as soon as the bluetooth is enabled so that the headset can talk to the app, the app exits with the dreaded "Unfortunately xxx has stopped". I tried 6 different apps. Clearly my version of Android (Jelly Bean) is NOT supported. I find it difficult to believe that NeuroSky aren't aware of this: Why can't they just tell everyone and stop wasting all the time etc to return?

I couldn't be sure whether I was able to control anything or not. The results seemed to be the same whether I was concentrating or not, relaxing or not. I even connected the headset to my stainless steel camping mug, and that achieved similar results to when the headset was on my head!

A good quality neural interface for a very reasonable price. Am using it at the core of a light, sound and vibrational therapy system where the MindWave Mobile is controlling music synthesis, infrasonics and four channels of lighting, as well as generating MIDI control data for external devices. Works brilliantly! Highly recommended!

I bought this as a part of my University Dissertation which aimed to build a remote control car with an Arduino board, that would be controlled using attention and meditation. Obviously, the values would have to be read and interpreted and thus I bought this. I realise that this is a very niche usage of this product, so please keep that in mind when reading this review.I found setup of the device to be rather fiddly. I had trouble with connecting the device to my laptop straight out of the box and had to troubleshoot for approximately 10 minutes. Once connected, I launched the provided software to see what was included and to generally "play" with the thing. The games that are included are very basic, definitely aimed at a children's market.The headset itself was on the small side, as others have said. I found it to be uncomfortable at times, but again I'm pretty sure this was targeted towards children and not an adult head.The reading of attention and meditation isn't extremely accurate. I'd say it was more of a loose approximation. It did however function in the way I intended it to. I programmed the car to accelerate when the attention value passed the 70% threshold, and turn right when the meditation value passed the 70% threshold.Overall, it performed the job I bought it for. However, I wouldn't recommend buying it for "fun", as the software that is provided is severely limited.

Useless toy. Could have been an important contribution but it's just an expensive useless toy.

Acquistato per curiosità, devo ammettere che è davvero carino. Ha molte potenzialità a livello di programmazione lato android che spero un giorno di testare, creandomi le mie applicazioni.

Es un aparato muy interesante, echo de menos software para aprovechar sus posibilidades. El que trae es muy básico aunque en la web hay cosillas.

More utility software should be included ... not to look for in internet.and more documentation.And some book about the state of the art in that area .

Mann muss dem Neuro Headset zu gute halten das die Verarbeitungsqualität super ist und auch echt Stabil.Es ist aber so winzig, dass ich mühe hatte jemanden zu finden der es Aufsetzen kann.Genau so misst ist es das dass Teil echt nicht zu gebrauchen ist, man kann Erkennen ob der Träger blinzelt und ob er sich auf etwas Konzentriert oder total Entspannt ist. Dinge Kontrollieren wie mit dem Emotiv EPOC kann man vergessen.Und die Apps die dabei sind oder die man herunterladen kann sind ein schlechter Witz. Wenn man einfach durch die Konzentration auf irgendetwas über den Zeitraum X ein Video steuert, auf dem ein Bogenschütze einen Pfeil auf ein Ziel schießt, würde ich das nicht als Spiel bezeichnen.Ich würde es nicht Empfehlen, gebt lieber mehr Geld aus und besorgt euch etwas womit man auch etwas anfangen kann !
