Dub And Sub Versions Included: The Dub Is Above Average Quality. And the series itself is amazing.
This limited edition version of the Overlord Box set was fun with the art cards (though definitely not for fans who don't want to go the extra mile for support of the series itself as the extras are not physically worth the extra $20 versus the standard Blu-Ray/DvD combo). The Dub is better than most; the tonnage is very good and carries over most of the immersion of the original Japanese audio, and the lines themselves are less generic translations meant to fit our culture of speech-craft without straying much or at all from the original meaning though definitely in wording. And the voice acting is very good though they switch up the tonnage of a few characters from the originals, it still matches the characters well. However, the Dub is still not a substitute for the original audio with subtitles for this immersion-focused genre though definately a bonus for your less dedicated friends. As for the series itself; first let me tell you what kind of series this is past all the biased opinion: This is a HEAVILY IMMERSION BASED FANTASY ANIME- Meaning; if you don't like lengthily character development and inner personality examinations, as well as meta monologues meant to humor or challenge you as a viewer, with action as a secondary tool (though still a very vivid tool in some scenes and executed wonderfully minus the lack luster CGI used exclusively for background mob characters) then this series isn't for you. If this sounds like your piece of cake, then let's get into the overall plot WITHOUT SPOILERS.The series puts a young man who works constantly with his limited free time used exclusively for his favorite virtual MMO RPG game into the universe of a dark fantasy world greatly resembling his game with variables differentiating mostly around realism, and into the body resembling his avatar, an undead skeleton mage. He is alone in the sense he is the only one from his world currently know, but he is surrounded by the NPC characters who have now come to life in his guild; made by his friends. This series will show you the inside and outside of the mind of a man driven to fulfill his role as an Undead Overlord as he grows into it, as although being undead has actually physically affected some of his emotions, he is still very much the normal human being he came as, and he will be dealing with his subordinates who are very much the real ideal of every dark and human-hating non-humans their creators made them in mind to be.With nearly unlimited power, evil-natured followers, and being faced with suddenly being in the role of an Undead Overlord; how would you react? Do you step down on the human race? Liberate them? Or forge some other path around your own ideals? In this world filled with villagers struggling to survive against attacks of monsters and bandits, writhe with war, with underground networks and political tensions between nobles, kings, and commoners.... what kind of Overlord do you think the main character will become? For those of you who watched SAO (which is inferior in my opinion but in the same sub-genre), Log-Horizon (which is great but like the PG alternative to this R17 horror film), Drifters, and other Iseki anime and want something to quench your thirst for something to put yourself in the shoes of; here we are.

Hmm... Maybe not for everyone.
I rather like Isekai anime, but this one was a little odd by my reckoning. I felt like the protagonist began to feel inhuman... Like he lacked any empathy for victims that he couldn't save. Perhaps this is commentary on the "cold and calculating" nature of gamers, or perhaps it is supposed to represent his characters monstrous nature overriding his own humanity..? Either way I didn't care for that. The rest of the show is quite nice though.

Enjoyable Watch, Just Wish There Was More of It
The "trapped in an MMORPG world" anime is quickly becoming a genre in its own right, what with shows like Log Horizon, SAO, etc. While not perfect by any means, Overlord was a fun watch that managed to get some laughs out of me. The characters are fun; if a bit overpowered. For fans of Slayers, you might recognize the setups of bandits/marauders who are hopelessly outmatched by the "heroes" who have powers WAY beyond anything they've ever seen before. Here, however, there's a bit of an ultraviolent twist. While it doesn't quite revel in gore to the same degree as true ultraviolent schlock, this series does not shy away from graphic violence (decapitations, eye-gouging, etc.) either. My only complaint about the series is that it's a bit short, and ends with a lot of unanswered questions. It feels like it's building up to a major confrontation for a later season. Episode 13 ends with some references to future plot threads, and even some of the earlier episodes feature plot hooks that never really get fleshed out in the series' short run.So, is Overlord worth 50+ bucks for 13 episodes? If you're really hard up for new anime with semi-unique characters, humor, and a bit of action that's slightly nostalgic of Slayers, then it may just be. However, most would be better off streaming this series on Funimation Now or waiting for a digital release that brings the price down to $2 an episode.

Blurays arrived in perfect condition.
Disc box arrived in great condition. Cover art is reversible so you don't have to see the "Blu-ray + Digital" and "Classics" text; art is otherwise the same. (The "Funimation Digital Copy" sticker is on the outer plastic wrap, not the bluray case itself, so it is easily discarded.) Discs are perfect, no scratches, they seem to play fine, although I haven't had a chance to watch through them yet. I'll update this review if we have any issues in the future. If you like this series, this is a solid way to pick it up. Would recommend.

Behold the Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown
Overlord rules. At first I was impressed with how Momonga looked but thought - this seems liked a SAO copy, but I was quickly immersed in it and a lot of that had to do with how Momonga (later Ainz Ooal Gown) was navigating this new world he found himself in. His underlings are all interesting, and I like how he attempts to balance his authority and regal presence with a certain mercy towards weak humans (although this may just be in his interest to spread the name of Ainz Ooal Gown). He has lost some of his humanness which is good in the case of dealing with gruesome scenes and wielding exceptional power, but unfortunate in other ways (libido!!!). There is some humor involved - such as Albedo's body pillow and Hamesuke. This is labeled as "The Complete Series", but a second season has come out and I hope for a continuing series that goes well beyond that. This is one of my new favorites that has joined the ranks of Claymore, Attack on Titan, Hellsing Ultimate and Tokyo Ghoul. Bend the knee and give your allegiance to Ainz Ooal Gown, the supreme undead Overlord!!

Un gran trabajo de adaptación y buena serie en general
OVERLORD, siendo una novela ligera, fue adaptada de muy buena manera a un Anime por la casa de animación MADHOUSE. Una de mis series favoritas, muy buen trabajo de animación e historia.
