Don't buy - Better products out there now
I am updating this review from a previous 5 star review. The right side pedal failed after roughly 4,000 miles/1.5 years of use. The pedal will slide laterally on the shaft 1/4" back and forth and has a ton of play. Powertap refused to repair the pedal under warranty saying their two year warranty only covers hardware/electronics. If you go looking in the forums you can find a number of people with this issue. I bought these when they first came out and paid $1200 for them back then. A $1200 product should last longer than a year and half with moderate use, from a smaller (and honestly not all that powerful) rider (5'7" 140lbs). Go buy a Garmin Vector 3 or some other product. This company will not stand behind their product. DO NOT BUY.

Excellent option especially if you have multiple bikes.
Excellent Power meter if you are looking for dual sided output. Very easy to switch between bikes and very quick configuration with Garmin Edge 1000. Have put nearly 2,000 miles on these so far and am very pleased with consistent data, figured out that my L/R leg power is asymmetrical at 52%/48% :) For indoor winter training these are making the workouts much more targeted and less boring.Pedals come with cleats and a set of AAA batteries, after using these for the past 4 months I have just replaced the batteries as of last week.

It's very good when it's working :-(
*****Update: I was in touch with Saris Cycling support and they replace my pedals for a new ones that are working.... They are really great power meters.I do recommend this unit.... Support is really cool.******I've bought PowerTap P1 pedals in December (2016) and I was 100% satisfied with my unit until April (2017) in an Ironman 70.3 competition (5 months later I've installed it). During the race I've got wrong power measurement (I was riding my bike at 37 km/h - something like 210 W) and suddenly I've got a message informing that right pedal was missing and the measurement became wrong (30 W up to 50 W).After a while, the power meter became active again but working for short periods (couple of minutes) and dead again. The cadence was also wrong.Few days later I've returned to training sessions and the "right pedal missing" message continues and just 50% of my power is registered.I've updated the software, replaced the batteries, cleaned with dry stuff, I've used a product to clear the connections (for batteries and contacts) and nothing works for me.It's sad because the unit is easy to install and use... But it's not working anymore.

Should've purchased Garmin
Got these pedals for a year now. After a while the pedals become loose even with new plates.. Battery drains super quick and I am not getting reading from one of the pedals. The app seems pretty deficient and old. I would not buy these guys again if I had the chance. I would go for the vectores if I where you. Also, plates for these pedals only work with these pedals well. So if you have say a TT bike and a Road Bike you would have to change the pedals or get another pair or power taps. Changing pedals from one bike to another is quick and easy. Setting them up in the new bike is also super quick and easy... at first. After a year I cannot calibrate the pedals in any bike. Customer service is also poor for power tap but Garmin's customer service is not great either. So, for 1,000 bucks I am not very happy with the purchase. They did get the job done for a year though.

The must get power meter !
Just got my first set of power tap P1 pedals and they are fantastic. I have been borrowing a set of these and using them for a while so I k ew what I was getting.I first want to start with saying that Amazon is fantastic with returns. My first set of pedals I got were defective. One pedal was showing 100% battery and the other read 25% even when switching batteries. I also noticed that that pedal was starts to overheat and get warm to the touch. I immediately knew that there was something not right. I got on Amazon printed an return label and shipped them back. I received the first set of pedals at my door on a Thursday, I returned them on Friday, and the replacement pedals were on my door Saturday.......WOW!!I called power tap to ask them if this was something that they had ever heard of and they said yes.. It was a very rare occurrence. Even the best engineered stuff has glitches, so I'm not docking them for a faulty pedal, I would even go so far as give them an extra star for the crazy fast replacement. I also asked power tap about the app on the iPhone, apparently when you try to update the firmware...yes the pedals are wirelessly updateable, a message would say YES there is a firmware update, but then would pop up with an error message saying that there was no device detected. Power tap confirmed that this was a software glitch with Apple but the current version was installed 30.025.....I think, they said this didn't affect the app or the pedals at all and just ignore it and they are working on a fix.Using these are simple. Just install the batteries, screw the pedals on, set your crank length, perform a "0" offset and you're ready to go.I have been using Speed Play Nanogram pedals and they are pretty much the lightest pedals in existence, so I was concerned about the weight but so far I haven't noticed the extra 250g or so.Clearance for some might be an issue if you don't have a good habit of keeping your outside leg down in a turn or pedaling through a turn but with good habits this shouldn't ever be a problem. The pedals are virtually weatherproof and are tested to be waterproof and sealed for long life. When installing the batteries take care that the caps to the battery case are soft aluminum and can damage easily if your Allen wrench isn't the proper size.Love the pedals and the left and right measurement and the ability to update as new features are avalable. Probably the most versital, easy to install pedals avalable. They also communicate with both Bluetooth and ANT+ so you're covered there.
