I am now legally an honorary Australian citizen!
I was doomscrolling at 2:00 AM when my algorithm decided to entirely abandon American content and aggressively drop me into the deepest corners of Australian TikTok and YouTube. Suddenly, my feed was nothing but frantic Aussie comedians shouting at the camera, backpackers having public emotional breakdowns outside of local takeaway shops, and viral videos of Americans discovering "Chicken Salt" for the first time while their minds melted in real-time. Every single video featured this exact yellow-and-red savior: Anchor Original Chicken Chippy Salt. According to the internet, this stuff is a localized biological necessity in Australia, but apparently completely illegal or ignored everywhere else on Earth. I had to know why. I ordered the 170g bottle. When it arrived, the first thing I did was check the label because one of the major viral debates is whether it actually contains chicken. Spoiler alert for the uninitiated: it contains MSG, onion powder, garlic, and an aggressively delicious umami blend, but no actual poultry was harmed in the making of this magic dust. It's essentially the secret essence of a roasted bird engineered in a lab for maximum craveability. I fried up a batch of hot chips (fries, for us non-Aussies) and gave them a heavy shake of the yellow powder. My life is permanently divided into two eras: Before Anchor Chicken Salt, and After Anchor Chicken Salt. It is an absolute crime that the rest of the world has been hiding this from us while settling for basic table salt. Itโs savory, itโs got a massive hit of umami, and it completely ruins you for any other seasoning. I have since put it on popcorn, roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, andโironicallyโactual chicken. If you want to understand the viral hype, just buy it. Your tastebuds will thank you, even if your blood pressure doesn't. 10/10. Warning to buyers: May cause a sudden urge to use the word "mate," refer to McDonald's as "Macca's," and aggressively defend a continent youโve never actually visited!

Delicious surprise!
I purchased this not knowing what to expect taste-wise and it was wonderful; especially on french fries! Try it, you might like it!

It really is absolutely delicious ... but $$
It really did live up to the hype. It's delicious in a weird salty way. Really, really good on veggies. It would indeed be fabulous on popcorn as one reviewer said. Cooking is my passion and I'll spend more on spices, herbs, chili crisp, etc... than most folks but I thought the price point of $13.50 for 170gm (5.9oz) is ridiculous. Especially when you Google "chippy salt" it comes up as $1.95 on Amazon (most likely Amazon Australia LOL). Star deducted for price point. One reviewer said something about powder chicken bouillon...and that's giving me an idea and challenge to make my own concoction.

Nor as flavorful as I had hoped
I tried it on fresh fried french fries in beef tallow. Have to say, I was underwhelmed. It takes a lot of shakes to get the flavor on the fries. Regular salt requires far less. By itself the chicken salt is very flavorful (similar to a ramen packet) Also, I live in FL and the humidity in our place is 50-55%. After a few days of being opened I've noticed that the chicken salt has started to clump a bit. Wouldn't buy again, but it's a decent flavor.

Purchased this at the recommendation of an aussie
One of my friends from Perth recommended this to me and said itโs constantly offered at โchip shopsโ in Australia and I should try it. At first when I tasted it on its own the closest thing I can compare it to is maruchan chicken ramen seasoning packets and I was like โโฆ.. this is it?โ And I didnโt understand what the fuss was about. Later that evening my mom invited us all over to eat egg rolls from a new recipe she came up with and I showed my family the chicken salt and we sprinkled a little on our plates to eat with the egg rolls just to see. What tasted like nice egg rolls now tasted like a flavor explosion in our mouths. We got French fries (or chips if youโre anywhere outside of the US) and put it on them next and again flavor bomb. The thing to remember is whatever fried foods youโre putting this on need to be hot hot, not microwaved hot or room temp or the chicken salt wonโt stick and it wonโt be as good. On itโs own itโs flat tasting and on cold or room temp food it is also really disappointing and lackluster. But on anything fried itโs worth the purchase and shipping time hand over fist to the point where someone took the chicken salt to a different room and every five minutes someone was shouting โWHOS GOT THE CHICKEN SALTโ I still want to try other brands but this is definitely a kitchen must have
