A Must Have Book
This is the best book I have found so far for smaller child's quilts. I am forever having to size down blocks or make less rows to get the quilts down to a smaller size. This book does all the work for me. I make lots of these size quilts for children's charities so was so elated to find this book. Every level of quilter will love this book, but especially beginner quilters. Each quilt is easy to make, rotary cut instructions that are easy to follow, and should be fairly quick depending on your skill level. Out of about a dozen quilts in this book there are only about two that I probably won't make, and that is just because of my personal taste in quilt designs. I bought this book for a specific sampler quilt that was in it, was wonderfully surprised to find so much more in the book. Plan and purchase bright juvenile fabrics or just use up your scraps. Add some blocks to make any of the quilts larger and excellent for a throw (or any size). If you make quilts for children's charities (Linus, Quilts for Kids) this is the only book you will ever have to have. If you have children or there are children in your family or circle of friends any one of these would be truly loved by that child. I highly recommend this book, giving it 5 stars (I rarely rate any product that high). It is going on my reference shelf where I can get to it easily.

Designs only - no Basic Instructions
Very colorful book, giving several great basic designs for quilting squares as well as simply assembly of the squares into 12 easy designs. The book 100% delivers on that promise. What it is missing is step by step instructions and visuals on assembling the quilting squares. For a new quilter (and these are for kids), a chapter should have been devoted to the assembly - how best to cut things out, how to sew them via hand and machine, how to iron the edges. Also how to sew the binding and attach the stuffing and backing. For the complete novice, this is essential information. If I have to buy a different book of beginner information, then this really isn't a good choice.Average stars - because good illustrations and several simple patterns I'm willing to attempt as a new sewer with a kid that is going nuts on all things textile. I don't know how long before she completely passes me, but soon I'll be providing her new instruction books and have her explain her new craft obsession to me.

WORTH CAUSE AND BEAUTIFUL QUILTS
This book just has some really cute patterns for children's quilts. I am so glad I bought it and the writer that made the quilts used them for a wonderful purpose. These quilts were made for sick kids, kids who were indigent, and were delivered to kids in disasters. A great cause and beautiful quilts.

Quilts for Kids and not quilts for kids to make
These are simple ideas which are good for anyone wanting to make straightforward quilts for donation to charity eg the Linus Project or for family and friends if they are new to quilting. They are not quilts for children to make (and that should be clear to anyone reading the description properly). Detail is clear and pictures cheerful and inspiring. Inspiration for how to put patterns and colours together in an appealing way for children to enjoy receiving. Good way to use up fat quarters for blocks.

Excellent book for a quilting beginner.
I purchased this book for a family member of mine who has recently got into quilting. I have been quilting for about 20 years and when recently visiting her was trying to explain to her how to plan for layouts to cut all of the fabric. She was having trouble understanding how to cut items and how to calculate how many to cut. She also was struggling with coming up with ideas beyond standard square patchwork. This book isn't long or drawn out but I feel is really good for a quilting beginner. It goes through the tools you will need, why and how they are used. It also details how to make a variety of different layout of quilts, how to cut the material and how many to make. It then goes step by step how to assemble the layout of quilt shown. Some of the fabrics in the book are a little dated, but looking at the layouts and the fabrics shown will help a user get an idea of how many colours to use or types of fabric as they can see how the finished product looks with the fabrics used in the book. The layouts aren't crazy and once you have got the hang of things, do not take a long time to make. They do challenge the typical square patchwork and allow the user to start thinking about assembly and layouts once they become more confident in more complicated assembly. I think it is excellent for a beginner and the recipient has started to better understand things through doing one of the quilts. I would highly recommend for a beginner looking to get into quilting. Starting with small kids quilts are an ideal way to practice and if you want to you can even half the layouts in the book and do half of the shown quilt just as practise and can use the smaller quilts as doll quilts. I think part of the problem with quilting for beginners is realizing how much time a full detailed quilt can take, and if you are not confident or have any real experience you will find yourself making a lot of mistakes. Making half versions of some of these quilts is an excellent way to become accustomed to quilting and get a feel for it so when you decide to make a full quilt you know the timescales and work involved and have learned from previous mistakes. Excellent buy and excellent price

Simple but effective.
This book is brilliant. I think all the designs really depend on the fabrics & colours used as they are quite simple but the end results are beautiful. I would recommend this for anyone who is just getting into quilting or wants inspiration for something quick & easy. I also like the idea that it was started to give to children who needed comfort, every quilt is stitched with love. A good reason to find more fabrics (even if your stash is impressive) & get some of the lovely kiddy prints that will make these wonderful blocky designs so fantastic. As you may have gathered I love it. A beautiful book despite my dogs looking after it for me!
