Can be read as a stand alone
The Grim Series by Dani HarperFYI: this is a short review of the series so there will be a bit about each book in the review.I loved this series and read all 4 books in a row [Storm Warrior, Storm Bound, Storm Warned, Storm Crossed]. Well actually I listened to all 4 books – I found it easier than trying to figure out the pronunciation of the occasional bit of Welsh. The narrator was outstanding – good use of voice, good pacing, and she got to figure out how to pronounce the Welsh. The setting is Wales, the Nine Realms of the Tylwyth Teg [the Fae or Fair Folk of Welsh legend – if you're thinking of Tolkein's elves forget it – although impossibly beautiful most of them are NOT pleasant and tend to look upon others as toys or pawns], and modern Washington State. The author mixes the politics of the Nine Realms, the Wild Hunt, Grims [a Grim is a great black dog that serves as a herald of death], and modern Washington with a side order of Ren Faires. She does a good job of giving you what you need to know about Welsh history and mythology within the story flow without burying you in facts.Storm WarriorHero: Rhys, a Welsh warrior who fought against the Romans approximately 2000 years ago. After escaping from the Romans he is captured by the Tylwyth Teg and turned a Grim.Heroine: Morgan, a Washington veterinarian, visits Wales as part of a tour. She keeps seeing this huge black dog everywhere they go and feels sorry for it and offers it kindness. After returning to Washington she is attacked and would have died, should have died, but the Grim intervenes sacrificing his immortality to save her. He is badly injured but she is determined to save him, taking him home to care for him after the surgery to save his life. She is very surprised to find a naked man in place of her dog the next morning, almost as surprised as he is…The remainder of the story involves Rhys finding a place in Morgan's world and Morgan's life – with many complications thrown in by the Tylwyth Teg – on the way to their happily ever after.Storm BoundHero: Aidan, a 12th century Welsh blacksmith, is taken by Fae princess on his wedding day. His refusal to dishonor his fiancée and come to her bed enrages her and he is changed into a Grim until he agrees.Heroine: Brooke, a modern day witch who accidentally saves Aiden from death. Since the princess is not happy to have lost her toy complications result.Storm WarnedHero: Liam is a musician whose world crashed when his wife was unfaithful – in living color on YouTube. He is now a reclusive farmer who has given up music in all forms.Heroine: Caris is an 18th century Welsh farm girl with a gift for music that is truly magical. Taken by a plotting Fae princeling, Caris and her ability to influence others with her music is 'stored' for future use by turning her into a Grim. Complications ensue…Storm CrossedHeroes: Trahern, a Fae sorcerer, becomes part of the Wild Hunt in his efforts to save his twin brother, Braith, from the machinations of their mother who has turned him into a Grim.Heroine: Lissy Santiago-Callahan, the single mother of an autistic child who seems to have access to great magical powers.Time passes while they ride with the Hunt and Trahern continues to attempt to free Braith, but to no avail. Then suddenly Braith attaches himself to a child, a human child, and refuses to leave. Trahern is fearful but comes to realize that he too wants to protect the child, and the mother. Both Trahern and Lissy feel that mortal and immortal have nothing in common but they find they do. And yes, complications arise both from the Fae world and from the real world difficulties of raising an autistic child. Each story serves well as a stand-alone but there is a lot character overlap. Can you read them without having read them all or in the right order? Sure, but I think reading them in order enriches the stories but that may just be me. There is also appears to be a series arc going on with Lurien, the Lord of the Wild Hunt, and Gwenhidw, widowed Queen of the Fae.The Grim series of this writing:Storm WarriorStorm BoundStorm WarnedStorm CrossedI truly hope the author continues the series…

pulls you in and keeps you there till the very end!
I love this series so far, the characters are all so very different and yet so loveable you have to keep reading just to see how it ends. I can't wait till the next one.The Grim are believed to be dog like creatures that carry a message, usually a harbinger of death, but it depends upon the culture. In this series the Fae take humans to toy with and then turn them into a Grim to serve them for eternity. After centuries of performing their duty of visiting those about to die they forget their previous lives and soon loose their humanity. They become the Grim and know nothing else but the pull to the human they are to visit and returning to their kennels to await their next job.Aiden is a simple man, a hard working blacksmith on his way to marry the woman he loves when he finds himself bound to chains by a beautiful Fae princess. She wants him in her bed, but he refuses so she takes away his life, and kills his betrothed. She keeps him imprisoned thinking he will give in to her but he refuses her so she makes him a Grim. After serving for hundreds of years, he has almost lost all memory if his past.Brooke is a young woman living in the twenty first century. She was born with the gift of magic and is now a practicing witch. She takes it very seriously, never abuses her gifts and abides by the laws of the craft. She uses her gifts to help people and to help keep the balance in the world. She is having an off period with her magic and after listening to her best friend tell tales about his grandmother, a powerful witch summoning El Guardia a large black dog that would come to her circle while casting a spell. The dog would protect those within the circle or help her with a difficult spell, Brooke decides to summon the dog to help her focus her magic.Aiden crashes thru her ceiling and lands in her apartment, no longer a dog, somehow she had broken the spell and he is human now. The Princess Celynnen however isn't finished with him and tracks him down.Together they have to find a way to stop her from killing those Brooke cares about and taking Aiden back to Faery and making him a Grim again.During the time they spend plotting to overpower the Fae they fall in love and that makes the stakes higher. They find allies in Morgan and Rhys Brookes close friend and her new husband. Brooke is shocked to find out that Rhys had been a Grim as well and Morgan had saved him. They also find an unlikely ally in Lurien the Fae that leads the Wild Hunt. They must work together to overthrow Celynnen and release her hold on Aiden or Brooke may loose him forever. If you love stories that delve into magic, myths and legends wrapped around a good romance then you have got to read this book.

4.5 stars - Fae magic meets witchy magic and the sparks fly
Blacksmith Aidan is kidnapped on his wedding day, and when he refuses to become the pairing of his cruel Far capture she turns him into a Grim - a supernatural hound that is the harbinger of death. For centuries he suffer his enslavement until at last his escape attempt aligns with modern day witch Brooke's spell to summon a canine guardian and suddenly he's human again and ready to pursue his vow of revenge against his former mistress - despite the irresistible draw to his witch savior.I liked the second Grim book even more than the first. The beginning - in which we are privy to the agony caused by the capricious Far princess as she steals both Aidans future and his past - really grabbed me. I loved the strength of his spirit which is never broken over the interminable years of his servitude. I loved equally strong Brooke - in both magic and will - and I thought that the people in her life were great, I also really liked the subplot with the Lord of the Hunt (and hope he gets more screen time in future books). Plus I thought the cameo of the past pair was woven in effectively. If I had a nit with the story, it is that there is so much that is great that is setup in the main conflicts in the story- that I wish the resolution hadn't been quite so quick and easy-utb that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story. So Storm Bound ended up being my favorite of Harper's stories so far and I am looking forward to more.

The characters are so real that they end up feeling like they're your friends
Excellent, [Book: Storm Bound] by [Author: Dani Harper] is an brilliant readAs in all Dani Harper books the characters are so real that they end up feeling like they're your friends and your fighting their real and mental battles with them.Although the story has Celtic Fae, Grimm's and other mythical characters in it, this story-line slots seamlessly in to this world (does Dani know something we don't?). There is great chemistry between the two main characters as in the first book [Book: Storm Warrior] there is unworldly chaos and many challenges the characters have to overcome.I loved the way that the story is written from the view points of each of person and how you see their version of event it gives an extra dimensional twist that adds depth to the story. Its a love story spanning the decades with the adaptation problems you can expect. There is a host of mythical character to outmaneuver and a small band of humans and good Fae to work with.I loved reading this book its a real page turner and one I will turn to time and again. The Storm Bound novel is a complete story in its own right, you can read it without having read Storm Warrior first, but I recommend you don't, characters from the the first book come into this one and although their background it explained - I know once you've read this you will want to read Storm WarriorThis is a great series and looking forward to reading the 3rd book Storm Warned out on 31st March 2015

Storm Bound ( The Grimm Series)
Aidan ap Lianfor was a mortal who had been chained by silver chains which bound his wrist and ankle to a high stone wall. He was kidnapped on his wedding and taken Tylyth Tey by Celynnew he refused to do what she wanted in anger she changed him into a Grimm and forced him to collect the soles when humans died.Brook Hallorans was a human whitch who like to help people and she follows the rules past down from the teacher told her when she first received her goft of magic. Her magic had stared to go wrong and she kept getting the same Tarot reading over quite a lot of reading she has a little frightened by what the reading meaning could be she cast a spell asking for a Grimm Aidan fell through her skylight causing a lot of damager he also returned to his human form.I plan to buy more of the Grimm Series

Not for Me
Did not deliver the promises made in the synopsis. This struggles to be a romance, let alone a steamy one. Far too complex descriptions of places and surroundings which I guess tried to paint a picture, but we really don't need to know every chair, table, pot, shelf, colour of walls in a room, doors to the left, windows right etc... A lot of paranormal ideas mixed together and just really not for me.
