Perfect simple ‘Boy Scout’ compass. It has a great design with it mounted on an approx 1/8th inch thick clear plastic rectangle approx 4x6” (from memory)… which allows you the lay right on your map/ stretch and using the edges easily draw your compass bearing on your map. I’m an active ham radio enthusiast and a very popular fun event we do multiple times a year is called a ‘Fox Hunt. Not a real Fox… but one member volunteers to leave a Club breakfast early and go hide somewhere… usually within 4-5 miles away… (behind a school, town park, along a hiking trail, pretending to be fishing out on a public dock… or marina. club President does a countdown at the breakfast parking lot… and We’re Off! with our quirky simple homemade direction antennas… usually an a single loop of stiff copper wire (we call a ‘halo’ that when held up a bit (like a small dart board target)… when you slowly rotate your body holding the loop up a bit… their will be a a wide ‘arc’ area of good signal and a pretty narrow ‘null’ aka very weak signal… THATS THE DIRECTION OF THE ‘F0X! Using this compus all you do is lay it flat on you local map and drawl a line from your position in the determined FOX heading. Drive closer…but also deliberately pick your next stop location for next DF with intent for of some ‘right angle-mess’ so next reading will result in a ‘X’ marks the spot! … and repeat process from there if FOX not found…

Worked great for getting objectives in Boy Scouts signed off. It’s not an actual BSA Compass, but there are many of this exact compass at camp

i got these to teach my nephews map and compass. the first thing we did was to place the compass on a compass prover i made some months back. i was really surprised to see that one of them is .5 of a degree out, the other was on the money. my opinion, this is a great value for beginner or someone not looking to spend a ton of money on something that will be used for back packing but wants a quality, trustworthy instrument. i would trust it with land nav in a heart beat.

Unfortunately the dial gets lopsided and stuck and you have to move it around in order to free itself. Very basic compass and I should have known better with the price.

I wanted a simple compass for travelling overseas and could not go past this one. It is clear, easy to read and strong enough to handle the knocks that are inevitable during travel. It is sturdy and very well made. I recommend this item highly.

It is compact , precise and a very useful tool to have on land or at sea. This compass is everything it is meant to be in a size small enough to hold in the palm of your hand , hang around your neck or stashed in a pocket. A vital tool that could save your life.
