Acrylic Painting Mediums and Methods: A Contemporary Guide to Materials, Techniques, and Applications

This book is terrific. It explains all the aspects of acrylic painting (including a bit of chemistry about how and why the products work) in a clear and concise manner. Rheni Tauchid really knows her stuff. The illustrations are very helpful and augment the text well. The paper is heavy and glossy, which is a nice extra and the photography is well done.The techniques are clearly explained in sufficient detail to be very helpful for a beginner as well as an intermediate-range artist. Lots of "so THAT'S how (and why) that works" going on in this reader's mind! Great a-ha moments all the way through.Best of all, the author never talks down to the reader. The book is written is a casual conversational style, as though you are sitting together over a cup of coffee. Truly, if you are going to select only one book for acrylic paint education, this is it! Much better than YouTube videos!

This book is phenomenal. There is truly no other like it. As a self taught artist, I’ve personally found it easier to find resources on technique, than it is to find information on how to really use your materials, but this book encapsulates it all. I was hesitant at first because of its price, but after receiving it, I have absolutely NO regrets. The overall layout is clean and the author does a fantastic job at breaking down what some may consider to be a more “complex concept”. The images are sharp, clear, and the book feels like pure quality. I loved the authors story, and I am grateful to have it. Again, I HIGHLY recommend to any artist who wants to learn how to use their materials, without sacrificing their own style.

I couldn’t be more excited ! Exactly what I was looking for and purchased several others and returned before I got to this treasure ! Not only a beautiful hardcover beauty , but has the content of everything you really need to Learn not only the fundamentals but the perfect instruction to help any level painter succeed! I love it ! Author is clear concise and picked the most important fundamental information accompanied with gorgeous & clear illustration. I couldn’t be happier ! I’m so happy I didn’t give up and finally got the book I need ! It is not an abstract gimmick book to teach you generic projects - it’s the opposite, genuine instruction guaranteed to surpass your expectations!

This book has the info on acrylic mediums. Haven't read any other books on the subject yet, but so far it is a good starter book. It doesn't go into detail on the different products on the market but talks about their own product as examples that are used in the book. So didn't like that part about it. Not really a comprehensive look, so still looking for the one book that incorporates most mediums, additives on the market, how they work and what not to do with them. Looking for a better guidebook.

I love tis book. It covers the use of the various mediums in an intelligent and thorough way. It could be used as a textbook for a class on acrylic painting. No nonsense about silly things like using a sponge to make texture, etc. The only note is that Alice uses mediums made in Canada, but they easily translate for Golden or Liquitex products.

I borrowed this from my local library and knew pretty quickly that I was going to have to purchase it. I am a dabbler, I have not had any formal training, and I find this indispensable knowledge - something that I always want to have close at hand when I get out the paints. I think if you are like me, it's a book you will consult again and again.

FAbulous. Tauchid's knowledge about acrylic painting is outstanding. I own each of her books and continue to use them frequently. Her writing is excellent and her ability to generate excitement for painting in general is unmatched. You can't go wrong purchasing any of her helpful books and each offers something different.

Was disappointed. Thought it would cover products I use such as Golden mediums. Only explores the Tri Art brand which I have never heard of. Other brands might not behave as those explored in this book. Haven’t study the book very thoroughly yet. I hope it will be valuable in the end.

This bookcovers everything it says in its name. I have not finished reading it yet, but I have learnt so much. At one point I felt the book would not help me as the writers style is so different from mine. As you read on there are examples of how the mediums can be used by all styles. Well worth the money.

This is one of those books with something useful in every paragraph along with examples and suggestions for further experimentation. The author really knows her subject and provides a lot of good solid advice on how these materials behave. Theres very little of the try a little of this and that, much more this is what this actually does. This is the only book I have seen that clearly explains the what and how of this complex subject.I would say this is one of the best, clearest instruction type manuals I have read in a very long time. Please remember, as the title clearly states, acrylic mediums are the focus not the paint per se - though of course she mixes them with paint. If you are after a book about acrylic painting only then this is not that book.

A good source of reference which I refer to often.

This is a beautifully illustrated and informative book for all acrylic painters. I loved seeing the work of other artists and the process used in their paintings, for example Barry Oretsky, The Anatomy of Folds, on pages 67 & 68 which is breathtaking. Rheni’s use of tables to summarize information (page 134 - Preparing Supports and p 220 Collage Elements) are further examples of how well useful this book is.
