Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals

Kids love when you help them draw these so easy to understand amd helps with position words shapes.

This is the best of the Ed Emberley drawing books some of the other ones like the one with the train and the architecture ones are too small in size. These give large easy to follow instructions. The kids really like these.

No child should miss out on having Ed Emberley's drawing and craft books!!!! This one is SO fun and goes one tiny step by one tiny step to show your child how to draw ALL sorts of animals. My kids loved his books growing up. One of my boys made a huge mural out of butcher paper that covered one wall of his room from what he learned in these books. It killed me that he threw it away before I could get a picture of it!!!! But he is grown now. He majored in Architecture and then switched to Graphic Arts and Photography. He used to make models for architects, and along with the help of the other workers, their model was shown in the Guggenheim Museum for a while!!!! So you never know where a child's imagination will lead him.

Some art books can make kids cry in frustration with, "I don't get it, I can't do it". I have never had that problem with books from this artist, kids just love these! Ed Emberly has made some wonderful books for kids and grown-ups of any age that have no drawing skills, but want to learn a simple way. His books are the easiest books to get you started if you have no previous drawing skills. He doesn't talk down to you, he doesn't talk at all but uses his step by step method for you to follow. As a result, you can use these books for kids that have language issues. He starts with a step by step illustrated lesson to draw one simple item. First a simple straight line here, then insert a circle then, then another line, step by step along the way and before you know it you have a completed drawing that you can be really proud of. I teach Cub Scouts and this artist makes the perfect book for teaching a class when you are a volunteer yourself that is not an art pro. In this book, he shows us how to make animals in drawings that when finished, you will be shocked it came from your pencil. The drawing is so simple, but looks complex when finished. My son started using this book independently at around 45. years and it has been a great way to show him how to draw using basic shapes. As he continues to use the book, his drawings are getting better and he's starting to apply these tips to drawings of his own. It is also a fun way to draw together. I highly recommend and thing these would make great gifts for children who like arts and crafts.

I bought this for my 8 year old who has always loved to draw. It uses basic shapes and letters to teach how to draw animals. For instance, it may say draw a circle for a head, then a letter C for the ear, and 2 S's to make a nose for an elephant. It shows step by step how to do it. It is not intended to learn to draw super realistic and detailed pictures. This is to take basic shapes and easily draw animals with them. For a kid thats trying to learn how to draw, but doesnt really know where to start, this is a great little book. We will probably be purchasing more of Ed Emberley's drawing books now as well.

I highly recommend this book for any child with an interest in drawing! This is actually the 3rd generation I have bought this book for!! My sister and I used it when we were little and we are in our 40's now, my kids had a copy and I was so happy to see I could still purchase it for my grandkids! It's step by step, silly and fun. There is a lot of artistic talent in my family from downtown building murals to tattoo artists and this book will always be a #1 for the kids in our family!!

What a fun book! This author sets up easy drawing exercises showing you how to turn capital and lower case letters into fun and quirky animals. The limited colour display allows the reader to create their own colour combinations. Anyone can learn the simple line and shape work in the book - including kids of all ages. If you want a fun, easy drawing session this book is a must!

Excellent book for introducing drawing to kids. My 4 year old just loves it. Make all animals real easy to draw by reducing them to simple shapes like circle, rectangle, triangle etc. Multiple animals on one page, easy to follow instructions for kids. Love the way different facial expressions have been introduced. Lion, tiger, elephant, owl , goat here we come. Confession time : I am pathetic at drawing and this book helps me draw better and allows me to teach the little one as well. Couldn't have asked for more.

I bought this as part of my 5 year old niece's Christmas present. She flicked through it, and immediately went to get some paper. She then spent about 20 minutes (which was a considerable amount of time when there were other presents to be opened) drawing some of the different animals. I now have a wonderful tiger on my fridge - and a husband who wants another copy!
