Worthy Scrapbook of Blog Posts
I came to know of Lawler, who is now deceased, when he was the editor of Modern Age, a good quarterly conservative journal that I sometimes partake of. This volume is basically a scrap book compiled from his blog entries over the course of several years. I find it great lite philosophical reading. Lawler presents short articles reviewing movies, TV shows, books, and philosophical musings suffused with his culturally conservative leanings and erudition of southern culture and literature. Lawler was a professor of Southern literature at Berry College. He often hawks Walker Percy's father as an underappreciated figure of southern literature. I haven't really finished the book yet and am only half way through, but already I can recommend him as a fun reviewer and commentator far beyond what one might find in the mainstream magazines and publications.

One Star
I would probably like it if it reflected real scholarship instead of copy and pastes.
