Complete Book of Baits, Rigs & Tackle

Absolutely, Positively A Fartastic Reference Work !
First let me say, while I was going to the University of Miami in the 70's, until my father (God rest his soul) caught me going incomplete on my classes so I could fish of of Government Cut or in the Keys, I would read Vic Dunaway in the Miami paper every day. I cannot buy into any of the negative comments on this paperback work. It is most excellent for anyone, either a young person who wants to learn, or an old fart like me who needs a brush up on knots or baiting techniques. I would have to say, 90%++ of the content is applicable to fishing today. Sure, there are a few newer knots (like the FG) that aren't in the book, but ALL the important knots that anglers uses day-in and day-out are. If anyone reads Vic's book cover to cover, they will be ready for most anything in fresh or salt water, except maybe Jaws' big brother, then I think you'll need a bigger boat. It is an excellent work and if you want to fish or currently fish, you'll find it one of your better investments!

The content of the book seems great. I just wish the book was in better conditions.
My husband bought this book as a Christmas present for his dad. He liked it a lot and was so excited that I decided to get him one. The content seems great. The only reason why I am giving it 4 stars is because both books we got were damaged. They look used. I personally do not care but I could have bought it used for cheaper thus my disappointment.

Fantastic!
After owning this book, I got a copy for my brother in law, who famously "never reads". When he opened his X-mas gift, the family laughed because it was a book and I didn't know his reputation. However, he's an avid fisherman and this book is one of, if not the best books on the subject; very thorough and complete. It wasn't long after that my brother in law's wife showed me a picture of him reading it! Salt or freshwater, all kinds of rigs, baits, knots, techniques, you name it. Marlin to Sunfish, this book is a classic. Well-illustrated, too.

Wide spectrum. Shallow depth.
Not a bad book, but not what I was hoping for. I wanted to learn about specific set-ups for specific types of fishing - for instance tie-ups for back-bouncing salmon, rigs for trolling for tuna, etc. ...complete with all of the meaty details of course. That is not what this book is. Essentially this is an encyclopedia of fishing tackle, providing an overview of everything but not really delving into anything. May be a good book for a beginning angler who knows nothing of fishing or for an old salt to put on the shelf to show others what he is talking about, but I didn't find any major take-aways.

The ultimate reference book
Vic Dunaway has established Bait, Rigs & Tackle as a must have book on rigs. His uniknot system is applicable to almost every application and once mastered, is as easy as any other knot and easier than most.He also deals with ways to prepare and rig baits that increase your strike and hook up potential. I bought this one to replace a mislaid one. I am never without a copy handy.

Good book but not what I was looking for
Great book on tackle but I was also looking for more information on how to use the tackle. That said, I learned a lot from the book and don't regret buying it. Even the info that comes with most lures & soft baits don't tell you the best way to use them.
