Supadoopa read.
Very well written and researched, gives an enthralling insight into the life of a great character from a film we all know and thanks to this book we know much much more.As Salty an old seadog tale as was ever written.Very much look forward to the film but I don't rekon it'll be as good as this book. One of the best story's I've read

Enjoyable but has a few holes...
I had this preordered months ago and really had my hopes up. It's well-crafted and has some great moments but misses the mark somewhat for me.The very first line of the prologue contains a factual error, well as far as canonical Jaws goes, anyway. The events of Jaws happened in the summer of 1974 not 1975 as Mayor Vaughn (Lautner) writes. This really bothered me from the start as it's such an important establishing detail that can clearly be seen on a calendar in the movie.Lautner's Quint is a man of very small stature (didn't grow much past the age of eleven!?) and this didn't really sit well with me either. It's written in the first person with Quint as the storyteller and for me this detracted from the flow of the read in places but in others it just wasn't credible that Quint would be expressing himself in such a way. I understand why the author chose to tell the story through Quint's eyes but there are parts of the book where a third party voice could have worked better.I recommend this book to hardcore Jaws fans as something worth a read as it does have some really engaging parts and gives some context to Quint beyond what we see in the movie. This book lacks the "aah, now I geddit" moments that the Dacko book has, and for me this book doesn't enhance the Jaws movie in the same way as it just doesn't have that attention to detail and obsession with the story we all know and love. The pace of the book also seems inconsistent and meandering and the style coupled with the bouncing back and forth between "present" and Summer 1945 from one paragraph to the next made it a little confusing so I had to reread some sections after a shift in timeline just to establish where I was.

Jaws prequel
A little disappointed. The first person narrative did not work for me but the Indianapolis side was quite interesting
