wonderful book - even if you cant knit!
would you believe this? i have been given this book twice & also bought my own copy! people know i knit & they also know i like dogs. its a really nice book to own if you also like the same. great photos. nice piece on each dogs background to start each pattern and good clear relatively easy instructions. maybe not for the complete beginner. but even so the possible 'tricky' bits are well explained. sadly my fave breed of dog wasn't covered in the first book. but i did 'improvise' to knit him. i 'adapted' the westie pattern to my dog's colouring (he's a cairn) the shape is similar enough.ive pre-ordered the second book by the same authors & as ive a BIG birthday coming up my guess is i will get 2 more copies. oh well at least they know me & what i like!

Knit Your Own Dog!
This looks like a great book and I have really enjoyed looking at it. It's nicely presented and the photos are good. I have to admit that I haven't actually started knitting any of the dogs yet so can't comment on how good the instructions are or how easy it is to make them, although I am planning on knitting a whippet for a friend for Christmas! It would make a brilliant Christmas present for someone who loves dogs and enjoys knitting (and doesn't mind being thought insane!)Since writing this review, I have actually knitted a whippet and it was really difficult! The instructions were quite clear but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be ...

A good range of farm animals including young versions.
I liked the range of patterns especially the chance to knit a whole litter of piglets! I have just finished the horse and am moving on to the donkey. Again stuffing is the key to making the animal more life like.

Well written patterns
To be honest I was not as pleased with this book as I had expected to be.Some of the animal designs are a bit weird looking (to me anyway). Having said that, some of the others (especially the chickens) are really cute. The designs are quite complex to knit but the instructions are clear.I am a very experienced knitter and found some of the techniques a little unusual - but they work out in the end. This book would probably suit an intermediate or experienced knitter. Whilst the patterns are well written and clear, a newer knitter might be happier if they are used to some of the techniques already.

Clear directions
I love all the patterns I have found by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne. The patterns look daunting, but are actually very clearly written, and work up beautifully. These Best in Show, and Knit Your Own patterns are fun little projects.

Beautiful assortment of adorable farm animal patterns
This is the most wonderful knitting book for farm animals I've seen to date. The designs are wonderful and high quality - not "crafty" looking. I purchased this specifically because I needed the cow pattern for a little project I'm working on. But there are so many cute patterns in this - the pigs and piglets make this book worth the price, alone. This is a small, hardback book with beautiful photographs and easy to follow instructions. Probably not for the novice knitter but certainly anyone in the intermediate to advanced knitting category will be able to make these with just enough difficulty to make the process challenging and satisfying. When my cows are done, I plan to make a few more of these adorable creatures.Recommend.

Hard to find in the US, but one of the best
I've been looking for this book for a long time and have come to the conclusion that it wasn't printed in the US. This is a UK edition--don't worry though, it won't affect your knitting. This is one of the best of the "Knit Your Own" series, with everything you need to create your own farm. There are 25 different animals, all well photographed. The patterns include: Cow, Calf, Bull, Donkey, Farm Cat, Goose, Gosling, Goat, Hen, Chick, Cockerel (rooster), Highland Cow, Llama, Pig, Piglet, Horse, Sheep, Lamb, Ram, Rat, Saddleback Pig, Silkie (chicken), Turkey, White Rabbit, and Sheepdog.Muir and Osborne are a great design team, but if you've never made any of their animal patterns before, you're in for a surprise when it comes to construction. Animals are generally knit in multiple pieces, for instance the legs are generally knit separately, held on stitch holders, and then picked up when knitting the sides. There's usually a fair amount of casting on and off. The animals are generally seamed along the back, and if that's where the decreases/increases fall, it can look fiddly. But don't let that put you off. Take your time, and finish carefully--the end result is worth it.
