Dirt turns to Gold in the Hands of the Wise.
Dirt is a fantastic film. Narrated by Jamie-Lee Curtis and featuring gorgeous, humerous cartoon illustrations, it takes you on a journey deep into the soils of the planet. The film covers the consequences of treating our precious farmland, cityscapes and wildernesses'like dirt'. The scary depressing section of the movie is only a short segment in the middle: the film carries a profoundly hopeful message - that it is possible to heal the dirt, the soil, the earth. First, is possible in a very short time to create soil. Second, that if you allow and help the soil biology to heal, keeping all the organic 'waste' on the land, nature's abundance will take over and you will be astonished at how things will grow. In short if we allow the soil microorganisms to thrive, we will thrive. If we all grow at least some of our own food, we have a hugely increased chance of surviving. As always, it is the use of pesticides and herbicides that have been used as the tools of a genocide against soil biology, our food and wildlife. Pesticides and herbicides kill the earth and decrease our ability to feed our populations. The practice of tilling the soil destroys it, via erosion; because of the loss of hydration and hummus. The experts interviewed give many tiny snippets of wisdom: it is highly informative and the stories they tell are fascinating. The earth-restoration toolbox takes an action list from permaculture, no-till, and natural farming and a hefty dose of common sense based on observation: keep your land-care organic & chemical free, stop using monoculture (an 'all you can eat' to plagues of pests), most importantly, RESPECT THE EARTH.Simply, we will perish if we do not start thinking and behaving in a completely different way... 'Dirt' shows us that that different way of living is joyfull, bountiful and allows us to live with integrity.A great movie - every single TV station worldwide should run it primetime, three times a week, until we all start to open our eyes and see that the dirt under our feet is a million times more precious than gold - it is our lifeforce.

Amazing. 2 thumbs way up!
I loved this documentary. dirt is such an important factor of life and unhealthy dirt equals an unhealthy planet.I really loved the part about the abundant amount of energy that can be produced from composting. A perfect way of creating energy that is natural and good for both the planet and us. But the greedy corporate executives may not want to get on board. But we don’t need to care about them because they certainly don’t care about us. So you can learn to set up composting energy on your own.

DIRT - the basis of all life on the planet
The movie is well worth watching. I felt guilty and ashamed that my current lifestyle consists of living in an apartment building surrounded by asphalt, under which the micro-organisms that are essential to all life are being denied water, air, and sunlight.Families should watch and discuss this movie together; schools should show it in class and get kids involved with earth sciences and community projects. The movie strengthened my resolve to support local farms, organic farms, and community gardening.

Watch it over and over, it just gets better.
I've seen this many times now, including screening it on Earth Day at the local urban farm. Everyone loves it. With a wide variety of sources from farmers to naturalists, US midwesterners to citizens from the Far East, it covers a broad range of interests and effects. I laughed and cried. Cute little cartoons of dirt are interspersed throughout the documentary to bring a little levity to an intense topic. It's amazing how important dirt is and how we need to take care of it.When we asked for permission to screen the movie in a public non-profit place, not only did we get a yes but they also send publicity materials to help us spread the word.
