Great Account of the End of the Roman Republic
This is an incredibly valuable book about the end of the Roman Republic. Nominally it is about Octavian and Anthony’s final clash at the battle of Actium. In reality it is four separate, very interesting books. The first two “books” deal with Octavian and Anthony’s troubles in their respective spheres of influence before Actium. The first covers Octavian’s war with Sextus Pompey. The second covers Anthony’s Parthian campaign. Both are top notch histories and are worth the cost of admission by themselves. The third “book” details Roman naval warfare. This is also excellent. The few pages are like a nice summary of some of Pitassi’s book The Navies of Rome. The final “book” deals with Actium. Overall, Actium 31 BC is a great book and a wonderful historical resource. It deserves a place in all ancient warfare libraries.

Disappointing book. Its missing information and the information included is generic. YOu can read about thsi battle anywhere on line and get the same information. Nothing new here. Not worth the price.

Good book - recommended.
A clear account of the relationship between Antony and Cleopatra and how this led to disaster for both of them. A well presented book that is easy to follow.Good for readers who have an interest in Roman History but want it explained in everyday language.

Actium
The book covers this sea battle and the events leading up to it very well. A book covering one battle can always give more information than a general history of the period. Book was written well and the Illustrations were also well done.
