How do you access the DVD files on the kindle edition?
The book seems well written, easy to understand, cuts to the chase and has you making objects from the get go. However I downloaded this book for the kindle on ipad and I haven't found out how to access the files on the accompanying DVD. I've tried to make do with files supplied with 3DS Max but this has become more and more unfeasible as the book has progressed. How can I access these files for the tutorials?Edit: For those who buy the kindle version, took a while to find, but you can download the files here [...]

Good idea, shame about the execution
I am an experienced Maya user and I was hoping to use this book to learn game character modelling using 3DS Max. It starts off very well with all the basics of Max including texturing and UVW mapping but quickly develops a serious problem. Throughout the book relies on the pictures to illustrate the construction methods being described by the text but the further you progress through the book, the smaller and more complex the photos become. This is ironically when the text also becames more and more vague so they are needed the most!I unfortunately would not recommend this book except for people who have an intermediate knowledge of 3DS MAX 2009. Even then however, this book is tremendously difficult to follow. Certainly not for the faint hearted.

Takes hard work
- If you're not usually stimulated from reading, this can get quite boring, it's hard to follow if you're a beginner and you end up lost- It didn't come with a disc, so I couldn't use the example textures etc., I had to find my own...- However, overall it is a very detailed book, so I'd give it 5 stars, although, I've only used it about twice in my life since October...

Absolutely Superb! Invaluable for the aspiring 3D Artist!
I've been using 3DS Max for over two years now and I learned more from this book in a matter of days! I've really enjoyed it and it is a must for anybody wanting to learn 3DS Max from a games industry standpoint. It even has some advice on what and what not to include in portfolios, how to apply for jobs and tips on interviews too!

Boring collection of step-by-step tutorials
The book's author believes in "learn by doing" method of learning, which is generally a great approach. Each chapter is a step-by-step tutorial in which you create a game asset. The steps are very clearly described with many screen captures and are easy to follow.Unfortunately, to actually learn something from the work you're doing, you have to have some background as to why you're performing the steps you are given. Other than some rudimentary tips (low poly assets should not have too many polys, keep your texture sizes a power of two...), the rest of the instructions are generally "point and click here". You get very little insight into the author's thought process and motivation for certain non-obvious steps. As such, it's pretty boring book to go through. The book earns 3 stars for some insider insights into the game modeling world that you can't easily find elsewhere, and for the general quality of presentation. If you don't want to spend the bucks, though, you can find free tutorials online that are only slightly lower in quality.

Excellent!
This books reputation precedes it! It is an awesome book and Andrew Gahan did an excellent job explaining some of the finer points of game modeling. Not a page is wasted. From cover to cover it's chalk full of information that I found really easy to absorb. Some books is really hard to understand and commit to memory what the author is saying, but it came really natural to be with Andrew Gahan. The last two chapters were intense, and really give you an understanding of the industry standard for game modeling. I completely recommend this book! Anyone thinking about game development should not do so without this book in your library.

Okay book
For the money I guess the book is okay just flipping through it I wasn't too impressed. It would be a good book for anyone who isn't experienced with 3d modeling. I'm in art school and there isn't much of difference from what I learned at AIW and what is being shown in the book. I give it 4 stars because there were some things I didn't know I would recommend this to a beginner.
