Super easy to use, plug and play external CD drive rewritable
The media could not be loaded. I got this external CD drive because I have accumulated over the years tons of files and music on my older CD drives which pretty much is no one is using anymore. So I needed to save all that stuff from 10-15 years ago onto a hard drive and then store it on one of the mass storage devices .This drive is so inexpensive and so efficient and easy to use, that I gave it all 5 stars, for these categories, and I also see that the seller answers many of the customer's questions promptly, so I guess that's a five too, although I never had to call them myself about any issue.I think the word of the day is simple - simple packaging, easy plug and play, ability read different kind of content, be it music CDs, DVDs or simple datafiles. I didn't try re-writing new data onto it, but otherwise works flawlessly with my laptop, so I don't have any doubts about this function either. What I like the most about this is simplicity - just one USB cord attached to the device and stowed underneath. Not something you could lose ( yes, guilty as charged), it is attached permanently to the unit. No clumsy wires separate for power and data, like I had with some other CD drives in the past. Supports USB2 and 3, and operating systems Window XP/2003/Wind8/Vista/7,Linux/Mac10 OS.Didn't connect automatically to my chromebook, but I heard there are downloadable drivers it would work with or if Linux is installed on the chromebook. I didn't care that much to try , even though I do have a chromebook also, my goal was to just transfer older files onto my main laptop. Didn't measure the transfer speed, but as long as it gets the job done, this wouldn't matter than much to my personally. From where I am standing, and for my purpurses, - a solid 5+ with plug and play, ease of use, simplicity, capabilities, easy to follow small manual and an overall positive experience.

Easy, clear sound, Nice Design, No Installation
I got this to use with my Netbook that didn't have a disk drive. The netbook needed repair and I had no way to repair the Windows program without using a CD. This CD player was easy to install. All you do is plug it into the USB port on your computer and the cord stores right on the CD drive so you don't have to go looking for it to plug in. It played the CD's without any hang ups or "cannot read disk" errors. When I used to to play music, it came through very clear and not "tin" sounding. The player is very slim, light weight, and nicely put together. Just slips into any bag or carrier that you use.If there was one thing that I didn't like it would be the eject button. It is hard to see unless you have a bright light shining on it. But that is so trivial that it hardly worth mentioning. I will get some pictures up in a bit, but wanted to let you know what I thought of this player.

Laptop with no cd/dvd rom works great, recording is a little more difficult
So right out of the box, you realize it is a made in china item. Instructions have micosmall print, and are broken english hard to understand, also printed in several other languages. It is plug and play YES but you do need software to play music or movies. VLC media player was free, so is real player and Windows media player. I have all 3. SO I was ripping some music to my mp3 player and laptop hard drive. Cannot get movies to play yet. I do have NERO to burn cds and dvds. Nero does not work with this like it did with my old tower, I tried a few other burner programs to make a CD, no go. I guess I am not doing something right, although it does say the program has to work with windows 7 for this to work. SO the player may be brand new but it outdated tech for windows 7. Glad it was not XP, no wait My old tower is XP and it works fine (offline). Face palm I could have just used that.....This is ok for the laptop

Mostly good.
Works like a champ when working, which is most of the time. Sat down to rip about 30\ CDs. Three times system reported drive not found. All I had to do was unplug and replug and it went right back to work. Many would give this fewer stars than I have because of this, but the price was so ridiculously low I'm just happy it's working as well as it does. I'm not hacking the Pentagon here, ya know.

A great way to add or replace an optical drive.
In my case, I had a client who could not afford to replace the optical drive in his laptop. Because of the specific size needed to fit his chassis, those units were costly. This was considerably cheaper and allowed him to use it on his machine of the machines of friends and family. He can now buy a new laptop (which he needs to do) and if it doesn't have an optical drive, he's covered. This unit worked great, was a straight up plug and play. No software needed. Fit his need PERFECTLY.

I expected a lot less
This thing really outdid my expectations. It worked immediately on windows 10 AND linux mint. I didn't have to do anything special, and it didn't give me any problems. I haven't tried ripping or burning yet, but the player is just as good as any internal drive. For as cheap as this sucker was, I am blown away.
