Micnova GPS-N GPS Receiver for Nikon D7100..
Fitted it to my D7100 camera and all seemed to be well. Took a batch of 6 photographs, the first had GPS data but the remaining 5 did not. I spent the next day investigating the problem and, following advice on a forum, came to the conclusion that the GPS receiver went out of sync with the camera. This was confirmed when I tried checking the cable between the GPS and camera, switching the camera on/off and finally switching the GPS on/off. The GPS remained locked on (solid green LED) whilst the camera had no GPS coordinatesIn addition, I had to take the camera outside to get the GPS to lock on to satellites, which it did in about 1 min from cold (as advertised). It never did lock on indoors. Hot start (from an off/on switch) was achieved in about 2 secs (as advertised). Battery drain was high. The above led me to contemplate leaving the GPS on all the time during a shoot and to switch the GPS off/on each time the camera lost GPS data. This was not acceptable for the reason of battery drain and the inconvenience of not being able to trust the GPS.I am returning this item and I am waiting the delivery of the Nikon GPS which is very pricey in comparison but I hope it is reliable.Update. I received the Nikon GPS, fitted it to the camera and it was like chalk and cheese. Lock on 3 satellites was very rapid and I was able to record GPS data at this point. Four or more satellites were locked on a short time later which increased the accuracy. I have put the camera and GPS on soak testing. 3 hours later I still have 1/4 charge which is significantly better than the Micnova and I have the confidence to switch the camera off between locations (something I would not have been able to do with the Micnova)..

Great value but not reliable
Bought this in august 2015 and by april 2016 it was no longer gaining gps signal. Light flashes continuously now and does not lock on.Got this because my previous GeoPic II failed at the cable and are no longer supported..It hooked on to a satellite ok if there is good access (doesn't like built up towns) but was erraticUsed it hooked up to a d800 and battery drain isnt an issue. However its light glows showing it is linked to satellite but the camera gps flashes. Switching unit and camera off and on quickly gets the two talking but i found i was repeating this every few shots. It is Not something you can switch on and forget, but something you have to monitor every few shots to ensure that the images are being tagged. But it is great value and better than nothingThe way the cables are interchangeable is a good feature. Unfortunately they are not available as spares and this is the most likely area of failure. The GeoPic had a novel foot arrangement so could be clipped to the camera strap and I miss this as this unit can only be attached to the camera shoe so you cant use it easilt with the flas and the geopic was much more reliable.

A bargain at this price, but protrudes too much!
Great and cheap.~Best to turn it on and leave it on, it dosnt use much battery power. Its just that sometimes can take a long time before getting GPS position.Works great, shame connecting lead couldnt be a little more streamlined. (used on a D90)I have edited my review to add that it has damaged the connector on my D90, so no longer works. This is because the lead sticks out too much and catches every time it inserted into my case. I could of course unplug it, but this would make it unusable. It should be a 90 degree plug. A real shame, as it works well.

Recommended and a great deal cheaper that many other competitors
Does exactly what it says on the box (tin). You can't release the built in flash whilst the unit is mounted on the hot shoe (D7100) but that was to be expected, so flash fill is a no go for outdoor shots. Recommended and a great deal cheaper that many other competitors. My only gripe is that it "feels" unsturdy, so handle carefully, just like all your other kit!

Locked in after awhile on my Nikon D3300. It ...
Locked in after awhile on my Nikon D3300. It didn't record any heading data but that might be due to my camera. The height information looks a bit iffy. I checked my postcode with the OS and worked out that it was accurate to about 39m

Great - but turn off camera standby mode
Yet to use it in the field but works perfectly in my garden. Thought I was experiencing problems at first but once I had turned off the camera's (Nikon D3200) standby mode the GPS worked perfectly. Package also includes remote shutter release for fitting direct to GPS, where GPS slot no longer available for this.
