GREAT BULBS, BUT WITH A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS
Our Exotic Pet Vet recommends these light bulbs for our aquatic rescue turtles, as other companies have had issues with consistency. However, we've had a variety of problems with these bulbs - they've arrived broken, or they've just worked for a limited time. Since our vet considers these the best choice, at least for now, we'll continue buying them. However, the issues we've had are clearly problematic. Not sure where the issue with the broken bulbs originates, so my rating is not based on that. The bigger issue is that the bulbs don't last as long as they're supposed to, and they're inconsistent in productivity. We have two bulbs hanging in each aquarium. We put two new bulbs in at the same time. Most often, one starts failing before the other, with a distinct change in the color of the light, usually white when we first get it, and a dimmed white or cream as it starts to fade. Other problems include the bulbs turning off, sometimes right after we turn on the lamps. This is never consistent, and nobody seems to have an explanation for it. We replaced the lamps, the first time this happened, so the lamps are not the problem. Further, We switched the defective light bulb to another lamp, and the bulb continued to be defective, ruling out problems with the lamps.Regardless, given that our vet advises that other brands have other issues, we have no choice but to continue to buy these bulbs.

Quality has decreased over the years
I have used this exact bulb for my turtle for at least 6 years, changing the bulb every 6 months to one year for best results. Up until the last few months, I have never had an issue with these bulbs. Loved them as a matter of fact. They used to last throughout the whole year, and I would keep the latest 'old' bulb in case the new replacement one faltered for whatever reason. Ordered two new ones at once because it seemed like they are becoming harder and harder to find and I did not want my turtle to be without her bulb. Upon arrival, the first new bulb installed did not work at all. Checked my dome and fixture nothing wrong (rated for much higher than 100 w). Bulb was either already blown when shipped, or damaged during shipping. THAT was a first....never had an issue like that....but things happen so I thought no biggy, I can return it, plus I already have a second new bulb.....which ended up the exact same as the first...already blown or damaged during shipping. What a weird coincidence, right? Amazon replaced them immediately with two more exact ones. First one was once again a no go....already blown. Second one lit up Hallelujah, right? But....it only stayed that way for two days, then it went out. I re-installed my original 'old' bulb thinking maybe it IS the equipment. Well....two weeks or so later that original old bulb is still doing it's job. So....I can only conclude that the quality of these particular bulbs have gone severely down hill. Am now trying a different brand that I have just ordered, which I hope will surprise me, because it is by far much cheaper than these bulbs. I don't like giving bad reviews, especially on something so high priced, but after 4 consecutive faulty bulbs I thought it was necessary.

Damgerous UV light output levels.
The UV output is off the chart too high. I have used these bulbs for years and they were great. That was when MegaRays made them. No idea who makes them for Zoomed now but the quality is gone. There was so much UV light, my desert uv light loving uromastyx got his eyes burned to the point that he could barely open them three days after removing the bulb. Completely unacceptable performance from a zoomed product.

Higher numbers are not better
These powersuns by zoomed are great bulbs. I have been using them for yrs for all my desert dwellers such as uros, chuckwallas, desert iguanas, bearded dragons, and also for any monitors, tegus, blue tongues, and tortoises. HIGHER NUMBERS ON YOUR UVB METER ARE NOT BETTER FOR YOUR ANIMAL. In all actuality its worse. Too much uvb is bad and can cause eye issues and different forms of "sun poisoning" essentially. Theres a safe zone for uvb numbers, too low and they're useless too high and they become dangerous. UVB output is effected not only by the bulb itself, but also by the type of fixture used, distance to the animals basking spot, and whatever the light is passing through (density of the mesh or screen or nothing at all). A few yrs ago significant testing was done on all different brand uvb bulbs of all styles (tube, coil, mercury vapor) and brands and it was found that most were putting out dangerous levels, especially when used in dome fixtures which actually intensify the beam directing all the light straight down rather than allowing the light to spread out. To correct this all companies reformulated their bulbs for better and safer use. These zoomed bulbs put out as much uvb as the noontime sun in the shade (and yes the suns rays are even in the shade) which is more than fine for constant exposure like in captivity.

Amazing bulb
My red eared sliders love this lamp. They've been spending much more time on their platform.I also noticed this lamp has a more natural sunlight to it and a good warmth. The aquarium color is no longer being clouded by the yellow color from bulbs I used to use with UVA and basking alone. The bulb itself seems to be holding up very well, I was worried because some people on the reviews got a "dud", mine is working good.Lastly, some bulbs tend to burn the turtle shell, this one seems to be properly basking them without too much heat that burns.

Great for keeping terrapins happy!
This bulb is all you need for a turtle. It gives them UVB and also a great deal of heat - 100W!Our terrapins love basking under this light, and their shells have definitely improved since we introduced it.Our set-up: we have it on a timer which has it on for 90 mins and off for 30 mins throughout the day, then off all night. We didn't want to risk blowing the bulb - even though I'm sure that's a silly worry - because it does get pretty hot.I think the UVB lasts for only a year, so you have to keep this in mind. Worth the money!

Very disappointed - didn't even last 3 months.
Ordered on 21st Oct and it only lasted until 12th Jan with approx 12 hours usage per day. Very disappointed. It's definitely not a problem with the housing as an emergency bulb is working fine. I have no kids or other pets around that could have knocked it or messed around with the reflector and I always handle the lamp with a clean, dry cloth. Frustrating. I'm annoyed - and my tortoise is furious! I can't be held responsible for her actions if she riots. I will investigate my options with Amazon and have ordered an Arcadia lamp instead following on from other reviews I've read. Fingers crossed.

Great bulb beware the lamp!
Great product. Superior heat and light compared to my old system of separate heat lamp and UVB flourescent tube. Needs to be used with appropriate lamp which for my tortoise table is the Zoo Med deep dome lamp. Beware! I ordered the lamp from Amazon too but had to return it because it comes fitted with a European plug, useless for a UK resident.
