... items that will weigh you down and minimise the enjoyment you'd derive from bicycle touring
The Pilgrim Way is a book describing touring on a bicycle taking the least luggage you can live with and discarding items that will weigh you down and minimise the enjoyment you'd derive from bicycle touring!Ultra-light touring promises to bring back that unbridled joy of being on a bike without the pain and exhaustion that accompanies touring riders taking everything including the 'proverbial kitchen sink'. Ultra-light means to take the minimal items and stay in hotels and eat restaurant meals instead of cooking the meals in a campsite or road side.Riding any distance on a bike should be fun. This book is about recapturing that sense of fun while travelling longer distances. The idea appeals to me. I wonder if I too, could do this style of touring. I should mention that I have a medical condition with my feet, but also I have been riding a variety of bicycles for most of my life. The one thing I haven't done too much of is cycle touring.Neil M Hanson's book 'The Pilgrim Way' inspires me to think I can do this also. Not the distances he shows in his book, I'm not that fool-hardy, I understand my limitations but Know also what I'm capable of achieving. This book while brief, describes what should be considered before embarking on a touring adventure. Of course, physical condition plays a vital role in such a journey as envisaged as travelling across the Country of residence. This book gave me much food for thought. The bike I would do light tours on, has no gears; it is a fixed gear but the journeys I'm most interested in visiting have minimal hills and safer rail trails. In all, I enjoyed this book. It has me thinking of the Possibilities of what I can achieve while travelling 'Ultra-Light!

Short book
Very little helpful info for a neophyte minimalist touring bicyclist. A lot of detail of roads taken that wasn’t particularly interesting unless you are planning on duplicating the author’s route.I suspect his first two books about the actual cross country ride are a better read.

Excellent advice I will use as I build my touring rig. Thanks
The only reason for the 4 start, not 5 review is this was an article, or pamphlet, not a booklet, it was a bit short. No mention of travel logistics for rooms, or the lack of, but maybe I should read his other offerings and find the information there. Cheers to the author for sharing and encouraging.
