An Carow Gwyn: Sorcery and the Ancient Fayerie Faith

Couldn't get into it
I was very excited when I first bought this book as it obviously had a wealth of knowledge I wanted; however... I ultimately just couldn't get through to finish it.The author is obviously VERY gifted with a massive intellect and a passion for sharing his perspective and wisdom, HOWEVER there are times when the author's views on pretty much everything about the modern world get exhausting and more than a little constrictive: perhaps it's mostly because of cultural differences since I'm ultimately from a latinamerican country, but the book feels like it clings too much to the cultural memory of ancient Europe to actually be accessible to anyone else at times. The constant tirades against christianity, modernity, technology and essentially anything that goes against the idea of living in small communities in the wild get tiresome, especially because sometimes the actual exposition on the subject takes a backseat to them. And while there is a lot of interesting information that can be obtained from this, the author's tendency to trail off and then repeat concepts to the point of redundancy is honestly off-putting.Now that I have gotten that out of my chest, I do have to say one thing I admire: the information presented in the book and the depth of knowledge it presents are, for the most part, PURE UNADULTERED GOLD. It presents many interesting perspective on paganism, live in pre-modern Europe, mythology and folklore that aren't easily accesible or found. So on that point, the book does deliver a lot of meaningful lessons or perspectives, as well as very useful tools for working.Ultimately, not my cup of tea, but much can be taken from it, if you're patient and can accept the aforementioned situations.

Changed my Life
Been immersing myself in Robin's book, "An Carow Gwyn". I am beside myself. Everything I have ever learned through experience. Here. Printed. In my hand. And more. And put very simply that the 'every man' can understand intellectually. As for having your own Fayerie Tale...if you are Fated, or choose to change your Fate, this is the best starting place for any Fayerie Sorcerer. If any of you have ever read 'Letters from the Devil's Forest', this book takes the Provenance Tradition to its beginning/end. Provides you with all the tools you need to have your own Fayerie Story. And to live authentically according to older, pre-Christian concepts, within the modern world.I believe this book is the textbook towards a more real sense of being. I have had a lot of 'aha' moments in my life which have slowly led me HERE. To this moment. To these words. To this experience.

Escape into the Deep Green wild woods of ancient folk and fairey lore....
I love Robin Artisson. Despite his ongoing online forum debates, Robins writing style, syntax, and overall heart are poignantly articulated in a direct and meaningful way. Once again, those ancient forces ignite the sacred hearth within, as though effortlessly traversing realms through the medium of page and pen. Magic leaps off of every page; every word.

This book could be about half its size.
This guy seriously gets so carried away with how big and smart he is, that he will make you listen to him ramble on about criticizing the modern world and Christianity and all their inferiorities before giving you what you actually came to read. It’s seriously pissing me off at points, that he takes multiple pages of trying to intellectualize a point or concept that truly only needs one page.If you enjoy people who take very unnecessarily long winded routes to teach, so that they can show you how smart they are, go ahead and get this book, you will love it.The points he makes, once you’ve trudged through his incessant talking, are good. So I gave 3 stars.

Simply Wondrous
A wonderful, well-researched, well-grounded work that is both rich and weighty, and at the same time strangely familiar. Mr. Artisson touches on aspects of lore that are seldom discussed, and then he goes further and deeper, leading a merry dance into an ancient past, and sometimes deeper still into one's self. If you wish to explore the warmth of a forgotten age, and delve into places long neglected, let An Carow Gywn be your guide for a day or thirty, and return with eyes afire.

Required Reading for Being Human
This is a beautifully synthesized work that wisely walks the shoreline of history and wisdom to bring forth very grounded perspectives. As someone who walks a similar shoreline, I know the amount of thought, skill, and effort it takes to bring this type of work forward, and Robin Artisson does it well. To describe this book does not do it justice. For me, few books have felt so profound to read, tapping into my own deep knowing. My experience of reading it was so moving in the way it resonated in my body, I implore you to read it not just from an academic perspective, but for activating the cellular memory of our true nature.

I just got my book today. Truthfully, I've only read the beginning but it has made me laugh, cry and nod my head numerous times. I haven't read much of Robin Artisson's work before outside of articles but I have been waiting for this particular book for a long time for him to write it. So it is my first experience ever reading his work. He has done his academic and personal research on the ancient Fayerie Faith. He has kept his promise.

what direct language!!!
My faerie mind was expanded upon reading this author. Introverts have a type of power to sink as a stone in a mill pond and the ripples write themselves easily into our consciousness as transmissions to elevate or moreover re-awaken a genetic memory that was never unlocked. Perhaps through not meeting the right people. Or was it by being separated from the stories of our grand-parents told about family members. We are hungry for it but it's vanished . That's why books continue to assure us that we are never alone

Extraordinary, refreshing, meaningful and deep
This is the most profound, satisfying, intriguing and genuine book on magic that I have read in a long, long time.As the years pass, folklore and the currents of the land around me have become ever more significant and I have read widely on those mythic themes. But I don't believe I have ever encountered a book quite like this one before.Indeed, until quite recently I had never encountered the name of Robin Artisson before, which I find very surprising given that we apparently have a number of acquaintances in common. But two more volumes of his writings have landed in my mailbox just this last week and more will follow.Extraordinary, refreshing, meaningful and deep. The keys are here to forging a deep and abiding relationship with the Otherworld, and indeed with your own self. So much here resonates with my own feelings about the way life ought to be lived.I really cannot recommend this highly enough.

Beautiful and Informative but Didn't Need to be so Long
This book is a tome on the history of the faery faith and its place in modern paganism. This really is the best and most informative book on the subject. So many books are half made up and don't explain the practices or where they came from but this does. That being said, Artisson explains in two pages what could be explained in two sentences. That's obviously an over-exaggeration however the dude really could be a bit more concise. That might just be the report-writing engineer in me though. The writing is beautiful but it didn't need to be a 500 page book.Overall though a fantastic read and so worth the money.

Enchanting we shall go
Before I even begin, I have pretty much read everything Robin has written, I agree with his views, regarding Fayerie and how we can approach it and it’s occupants. This hefty tome, is the accumulation of his life’s work, although some of the illustrations are repeated from previous volumes, the content is not, of course certain themes reoccur, as they do throughout his writings. I would recommend reading Way of the hollow hill, before this one, to lay some ground rules. Here’s to hoping it will be available on Kindle soon as well, as I had already mentioned it’s a big one to carry around.

Credit where it's due.
"Someone out there needs this book " .... I don't know if the Author realises just how much he has helped people like myself . I'm one of those persons that needed this book and I can't thank Mr Artisson enough. Buy this book , you'll never regret it .
