it's the cutest book, recipes are good

I love itI love itI love itit is one of those books that i cant put down and always come bake to.I tried several recipes and they turned out great. the lavender cup cake was amazing, the chocolatechips cookies were to die for...and the best thing is that most of the recipes make about a dozen of cupckaes / muffins / or like 24 cookies.. which i love because i bake almost every day and hate it when i have left overs :))

Well thought out recipes

I heard great things about the hummingbird bakery, however, but when I tested out the recipes I though either I was doing something wrong or the UK has a much different take on what cupcakes and muffins should taste like. If you like dense cupcakes this is your book.

The photos are pretty but the frostings are too sweet. It was okay, but not fabulous like I expected. Do not buy.

I had this recipe book for about two years before actually trying a recipe. The pictures are so pretty that it was fun to just flip through. I've tried almost every recipe now and not once have the cupcakes or muffins turned out to be dry, flat, flavorless or dense. Each recipe is completely different from others and Malouf has included both classic cupcakes (vanilla, chocolate, red velvet) as well as more original recipes (like a cake that has ginger added in three different ways). The Ginger Cupcake is my favorite, although certainly one of the most complex recipes. I love making the simpler recipes with younger children and more complex recipes with a good friend as we get through a pot of tea.As some other reviews mentioned, the book dimensions are on the small size as is the text. However, I prefer this as it is easy to tuck away and the text is simply small enough to make the recipes compact. I would definitely recommend The Hummingbird Bakery and Cupcakes and Muffins recipe book to a friend!

So I was excited to get this cookbook but when I got it, found it to be a 'mini' book meaning that book is the size of a postcard - with print so small it makes your eyes hurt looking at it (they have a whole recipe again in small print on a page that is the size of a post card). . . .and I have 20/20 eyesight. Guess I probably should have looked harder at what I was buying. . . .but I would not recommend this book even though I havne't not even tried one recipe!

My last humming bird bakery book flew away! So was replacing what I already had. (Bargain too!)I love this book it’s my kitchen bible. The recipes are so clear and easy to follow. The cakes are delicious and my favourites.The book is beautifully presented in a hardback cover and is a proud staple of my home. (Best kept secret!)Try out some of these recipes and then go to the hummingbird bakery in London if you get chance to.I also recommend the primrose bakery book! And if you are serious about baking get a oven thermometer for perfect results. Happy baking!!

I wasn't sure about this book, especially having read some of the reviews, but decided to buy it anyway. So far have only tried 2 recipes- strawberry cheesecake cupcakes and black bottom cupcakes- these especially for my grandsons who, I knew, would love the name!! I'm a relatively experienced cook and it's just as well because I have to question the amounts of some of the ingredients. The chocolate base- for the black bottom cupcakes- required alot more water than the 125mls stated to make it anything like a cake mixture- was more like concrete with only 125mls of water!- and if you make a quantity of cream cheese frosting you'll have far too much- I halved the recipe and it was just fine. I only managed to get 10 cupcakes from this recipe using standard sized paper cases.

I absolutely love this book. I have had my own copy for years, and bought this one as a gift. The recipes are interesting and varied, a wonderful mix of sweet and savoury. There's hardly any overlap between them, and many are so unique. The cream cheese frosting in particular is delicious. As for the book itself, I have the small square "pocket" version, which is very cute - they layout is sensible and eye-catching, and the recipes easy to follow.

I was at a friends house and she showed me some of the cookbooks from The Hummingbird Bakery and I was very excited. The recipes sounded very fun and fresh and everything looked delicious..!For Christmas my sister wished for cookbooks and I wanted to give her some fun and different recipes, and since she loves cake, I thought that this would be perfect..I ordered two of their cookbooks, the other one (The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook), which I had already seen at my friends house, was excellent, but this one was unfortunately a bit disappointing. The last ten pages or so had the exact same recipes as the other book and on top of that I got surprised by the size.. It is smaller than a sheet of A5-paper.. It's sweet, but it gave me the feeling that I got far less than what I paid for, since the two books cost exactly the same at the time and the fact that there is about 80 pages and the size in difference.I decided not to give this book to my sister, but I later used it as a hostess gift, for which it was quite suitable.

The little book is lovely - unfortunately it is the whole of the Cupcakes and Muffin sections from the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook lifted and scaled down to pocket size.There is nothing new here - even the illustrations are the same ones.I fell into the trap of buying all 3 Hummingbird Bakery books from Amazon in one go and while they are all lovely there is a lot of repetition. Wish i had browsed them in a book shop first and saved myself some money!Recipes are lovely though and some of the tips really useful - but you only need them once!
