Product Description In 1979, American heiress Martha 'Sunny' von Bulow (Glenn Close) lapses into a coma after being injected with insulin. Her husband, Claus (Jeremy Irons), is charged with murder. Sentenced to thirty years in prison, Claus gets out on bail for a million dollars and convinces lawyer Alan M. Derschowitz (Ron Silver) to file an appeal. From .co.uk Reversal of Fortune focuses on one of the most intriguing criminal trials of the 1980s, that of Claus von Bülow, who was accused of sending his rich wife Sunny into a permanent coma with an overdose of insulin. Director Barbet Schroeder, working from Nicholas Kazan's evocative, darkly humorous script, turns the story into both a look at the lives of rich folks with too much time on their hands and a whodunit, as lawyer Alan Dershowitz (Ron Silver) prepares to defend von Bülow (Jeremy Irons) in court. Irons won an Oscar for his spooky, knowing performance, which hints at depths of degeneracy without ever putting a dent in a veneer of bored elegance. The contrast between the hard-charging Dershowitz and his eager-beaver Harvard law students and the eternally languid von Bülow adds unexpected humour. --Marshall Fine

REVERSAL OF FORTUNE
DESPITE THE EXCELLENT CAST I FOUND THE STORY RATHER STRANGE AND WITH NO REAL "CLOSURE", THREE STARS GIVEN MOSTLY DUE TO THE CAST AND PERFORMANCES.

Jeremy Irons is excellent as Claus Von Bulow and Glenn Close brilliantly plays ...
In 1980 Sunny Von Bulow was found collapsed in her bathroom in the mansion she shared with her husband and children. She was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced to be in a coma and put on a ventilator. Her husband, the European aristocrat Claus Von Bulow was suspected of trying to kill his wife. Jeremy Irons is excellent as Claus Von Bulow and Glenn Close brilliantly plays Sunny. This is a wonderful Hollywood mystery that still leaves people wondering to this day, did he try to kill her?

A brilliant film charting the notorious von Bulow trial
A brilliant film charting the notorious von Bulow trial. Irons won an Oscar for his portrayal of the infinitely selfish husband, Claus. (Though it is said that this was compensation for missing out for his performance in 'Dead Ringers.' Don't quite believe that, as his performance is von Bulow to a 'T.') Glenn Close was equally wonderful as the mega-wealthy 'Sunny' - whose temprament was anything but. Good film for a Sunday night in Winter.

very nicely translated to the big screen
I was afraid that this was going to be a colossal bore but I could not have been more wrong. Well scripted, well acted and well worth watching.

Very unusual film
In addtion to being an unusual story, it could not have been near as good with out the star. He really made it beleivable. It was by far the best film the star will ever make.

What an Acting!
I watched this movies years ago and couldn't forget the admiration. My second view was the same. Besides the acting by Jeremy Irons which was nothing but perfection, the plot and the structure were impressive. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a good film taste. It is a modern time classic which would be kept in archive.
