A great presentation of all the classic Bible stories from the New Testament that is perfect for elementary-aged children!
I gave this book to my son for his 8th birthday and he has absolutely loved it. Over the next several weeks he read it cover to cover and really enjoyed talking to us about what he was reading. Though he has been going to church all his life and has been hearing stories from the Bible at bedtime for most of his life, as he read the stories in this book they were really sinking in. He has happily reported to us all of the stories he has been reading, and it's almost as if he is learning them for the first time! It's really fun to see his excitement about reading this book, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I now plan to purchase more of these books to give away as presents to my younger nephews.

Not my first purchase of this version
If you bought the complete action bible you probably don't need to purchase this. I bought it to give as a gift. My daughter had one when they first came out. She always had a hard time with reading but this helped her start reading. She carried the paperback New Testament everywhere with her until she lost it. (It was almost worn out) It is colorful and grabs the attention of the preadolescent reader. Not meant to be a study bible but it gets the interest perked up and starts interest from my experience and observation. She is still involved in the youth ministry and recommends this for children with attention span difficulties.

Wonderful paraphrase, gorgeous art.
Amazing. Not a proper 'translation' but more of a paraphrase. It still references particular books, chapters and versus so the actual text can be found and read when a fuller account is desired. Works great to introduce children, or adults who are very visually oriented, to the Bible. Wonderful, expressive images. Very high quality art. I'm so impressed I bought another as a gift for yet another person after giving this one away hehe

Wonderful Bible
My husband and I bought this Bible for our son's 2nd birthday and we have all enjoyed reading it. The illustrations are beautiful, bringing to life the characters and settings. The stories are presented in chronological order, which helps all readers gain a better grasp of God's plan.*The description is misleading in saying that this is a "companion" to the Action Bible. The Action Bible (which we also purchased) contains both the old and new testaments.*

Perfect!
Buy it you will love it! It's perfect for those who have difficulty understanding the bible. It helps bring the verse to life. It's also fun for kids and I cant think of a better book for kids to read or anyone for that matter. Everyone I show this book too wants one. i think that says it all right there, It is not a substitute for the bible but its a great companion for bible study. I find it to be a very useful learning tool. It's one of those thing you buy and say, now why didn't I think of this? Yes I believe its that good. enjoy your bible!

Impressive, but not without flaws
Overall, the look and feel are great. The angels look like burly men instead of slender, effeminate figures (p 141). Jesus Himself seems more masculine and overall much more human: At times He looks stern or solemn (the Last Supper on pp 112-113), at times He looks angry or displeased (the cleansing of the temple on p 104, His arrest in Gethsemane on p 116), and He smiles when it makes sense (when He raises Jairus's daughter and takes her by the hand on p 65).The illustrations of Christ's life and parables are excellent and do a lot to bring the stories to life (the flight to Egypt on pp 28-31, the Prodigal Son on pp 90-94). The illustrations of the Biblical history of the Early Church are also very good, especially the shipwreck at the end of Acts (pp 221-223) and the events in Ephesus (pp 212-216).A good job is done weaving in church tradition to supplement the explicit Scriptural material, such as the identities of the authors and further historical and biographical information. This may encourage readers to appreciate the importance of these other sources and discourage an unhealthy Bible-onlyism. That said, I didn't notice any mention of the Creed, and sacramental theology is almost ignored (for instance, no Matthew 16/John 20 and no 1 Corinthians 11, although at least we have Matthew 28).Some of the illustrations give the wrong idea when it comes to Biblical interpretation and stray from an otherwise contextual approach. For instance, Peter's "Kill and eat" vision includes animals like penguins and walruses, things that Luke's audience probably had no idea existed (p 168). This reminded me of one of the illustrations in the OT edition which showed the earth as a sphere orbiting around the Sun, a far cry from the actual cosmology of the Israelites and their Ancient Near-Eastern neighbors. The illustrations for the book of Revelation are vivid and compete with any other graphic novel out there. The problem is that Revelation is presented as a prophecy of the future, rather than an apocalyptic revelation of God's perspective on the whole of salvation history (past, present, and future). Readers will miss the truth that Christ has already come and locked up the dragon and established His reign through the Church. Revelation 3:19 is chosen as the ultimate conclusion, and even though the context of letters to the churches is mentioned, it creates the distinct impression of the readers deciding for themselves whether to believe the Bible and come to faith according their own judgment, which is eisegetical to say the least.

Good book
Really good, with good drawings. But felt costlier in Indian context.

Pure awesome! anyone who reads through it will have a pretty solid picture of the new testament, it's not quite 100% but that's why we have real bibles to reference and study... Praise the Lord for providing His word in this type of format to help spread the gospel to not only our children but also adults in a time when our society is turning out record numbers of illiterate citizens... I recomend anything that spreads the teachings of Jesus, I just wish the price was better so I could afford even more copies to share...

An amazing translation of an amzing book!
This Bible is great! My 9 year old got it for Easter and he has not put it down!! The text is short but to the point and the pictures are so creative. My son has almost finished the Old Testament in four days!?! Im amazed at how much it has captured his attention! This is a good translation for any 9+ year old, really easy to read so they are absorbing the word but also wrapped in an appealing way that they would be happy to pull it out in front of their friends and probably draw wanted attention for it. I would recommend this highly! The only thing i am encouraging is when a particular parts jumps out at him to grab a full scripted bible (like mine) to read in depth at what went on, what was said etc.Great stuff to help make what can seem hard going to our youth so much easier to read, process and put into practice... Praise God!

a great addition to the original
I ordered the books because I love the bible and I love comics. it's different and very nice, just love it.I think it might be suitable for teens and maybe grow their interest in the stories of the bible. but you should read it additionally not just exclusively.
