Geoffrey Bawa: The Complete Works

A Sri Lankan master not bettered to this day
Get this book if you love Asia and the modernist language of architecture that came out of Bawa's mind and south Asia in the 40's 50's and 60's. We now have Cecil Balmond and Anish Kapoor making great designs but this book shows how harmony with the surrounding can be challenged and enhanced. Every Sri Lankan must have a copy - even the millions of Sri Lanka doctors who don't know anything about our cultural heritage.

the definitive work
This is the definitive work on the architecture of this extraordinary man. The photos are sumptuous. Almost every day I pick the book up and marvel at just one of his many buildings.

This is a great book. A feast of evocative images portraying a lifestyle that most of us can only aspire to. Bawa's architecture has adapted naturally and easily to the harsh tropical climate of Sri Lanka and created a new zone between the inside and the outside which for those of us in northern climes is just not feasible. A must-have for lovers of architecture and Sri Lanka. To spice up that Sunday afternoon reading, try the Architect by Charles Bancroft. The Architect

Geoffrey Bawa
Just been to Sri Lanka. Stayed in one Bawa hotel (Heritance at Kandalama), breakfasted in another (Lighthouse at Galle) and had coffee in another (Bluewater at Wadduwa) and became hooked by his architecture. Saw this book in Sri Lanka and was very impressed by its completeness. Too big and heavy to bring home so ordered from Amazon whilst still in Sri Lanka and found it waiting when we got home. Anyone interested in him and his architecture will be well rewarded with this book, especially the illustrations. Highly recommended.

The complete works
For those with an interest in architecture that combines the history and culture of its environment, whilst utilising both traditional and modern deisgn and construction methods then Bawa the complete works is for you. A comprehensive listing of all of Bawas work, complete with sketches, plans and some beautiful photography. I know as having tried to photograph some of Bawa's work. The beauty of Bawa's work is how he combined the structural with the natural, examine his work with the rubber plantation bungalow. A perfect coffee table book for those with an interest in either architecture or Sri Lanka
