Perfect if you want to get into reading more.
I was surprised by how much more this thing made me want to read! The reading experience was great. It felt like a book when I turned the pages, but without the discomfort of a regular book. It can get pretty dim in a room without light, just enough not to make my eyes hurt. It looks sleek and small, which is a huge plus for me, as I can fit it in my pocket. It's so light but seems pretty durable. Functionality-wise, it was much quicker than I expected. It also has an incredible battery life and seems like a super stable product. I also love that with Kindle you get a discount on all the books you buy. If you read a lot, it saves time and money.

Very happy reader here
This new version is the best! I was surprised at how small it is, but it’s so lightweight and compact. it’s a pleasure to read with it. Page turning is much faster. The matcha color is beautiful. The one complaint I have is sometimes I have to press really hard on the screen to return to Home or the Library. Also, sometime tapping the screen to turn the page flips ahead several pages. The price is great, and my purchase came with 3 months of fee Kindle Unlimited. I’ma very happy reader! highly recommend this product.

NO MORE SWIPE SCREEN TO OPEN!!! YEA👍 My 5th kindle and the best.
This is my 5th Kindle and I love it. I had the original scroll wheel Kindle, then the 1st gen Kindle Touch, the 1st gen Paperwhite, the10th gen Paperwhite, and now the 11th gen basic Kindle with no locked screen ads. I grew to hate the ads with their stupid blurbs. Never had an ad that appealed to me or led to a book purchase. Plus, I always considered swiping to open the Kindle to a stupid waste of time. It is there to keep the ad in your face a little longer. The Kindle Touch had ads on its locked screen, but there was no swipe to open, it went straight to where I had left off just like my new Kindle. Now this new Kindle with no ads opens instantly to the last page read in the book. When it is turned off the screen shows wonderful images: fountain pen caps, dip pen and ink bottle, pencil points, etc. Very artistic. The screen size is identical to my 11th gen Paperwhite., the body a lot thinner, a little narrower and a little taller. And lighter. This basic Kindle has a tiny bezel. I made touching mistakes with the totally flat Paperwhite bezel when a finger would wonder onto the screen. Almost the whole surface of the case has a lovely satin finish. The "Kindle" name on the front is shiny and the Amazon Arrow on the back is recessed and shiny. I made the mistake of ordering the fabric case after I had ordered the Kindle, and it came 5 days later. I did. not take it anywhere until the case came. I consider the case to be necessary to protect the Kindle when carrying around and it reduces the tendency to slide off surfaces. Also keeps the screen cleaner. Love this fabric case. My mistake with my first Kindle Paperwhite was buying a cheap case to save money. It was imitation leather and a good case until the cheap leatherette surface started flaking off. The cover also warped over time, though that was more cosmetic than a problem. By the time I wanted a new case, Amazon had none to fit it anymore. I learned my lesson and bought Amazon's fabric case with my second Paperwhite and with this new Kindle. The first fabric case looks as good after 4 years of heavy use as it did new. While this Kindle is very lightweight, it has no "cheap" feeling at all. Thinner than all the others. Turning on, downloading. books, searching, opening the dictionary are all much faster than the 11th Paperwhite ever was (it seems to have gotten slower and very quirky this past year. A number of times when I opened the dictionary it froze requiring a restart. Other times it froze and had to be restarted). Not being waterproof is not a problem as I don't read in the rain, near pools, nor the surf. The slight step up from the screen to the bezel does not prevent me from using my remote page turner. The new Kindle came with the battery charged to 50% and lasted most of a week before it dropped to 30%. I charged it to 73% some days ago and, after heavy use it is only down to 69%. I keep the backlight at level 1, which is sufficient for reading in the dark. I have never had any need to have the backlight higher than level 4 on my 2 Paperwhite Kindles used heavily over the past 12 years. Unlike my other Kindles I have kept this one connected to WiFi all the time. I recommend this Kindle for anyone who wants a conveniently portable Kindle that fits in coat pockets and takes up little room in a purse or bag. Buying it at the start of Amazon's Black Friday sale saved me the price difference of not irritating lock screen ads. PLUS I DON'T HAVE TO SWIPE TO OPEN ANY MORE!! Thank you Amazon for having this Kindle eBook reader.

Love! Super handy.
It’s a cute kindle! I love the color and it works well! On airplane mode the battery lasts a few weeks and it’s smooth functioning. It’s also quite small which I like. I can hold it with one hand.

My love
I'm married to this thing now. I love the design, the color, the portability, the layout of the software, and the battery lasts weeks for me. It also has day and night settings for the screen so you can have the perfect brightness for your habits. I like to read in bed, so the size is very comfortable for me.

Size and screen are great 👍 No option for page turn buttons 👎
If this had been available with the integrated page turn buttons? - it’d have earned a 9.5 star rating from me. The 1/2 star short of 10 is due to a glitch I mention later in this review. I’ve owned so many different Kindle models. The fact that I’ve been a dedicated Kindle user for so many years speaks to how much I love them. I’m pretty fixated on having page turn buttons, though. It’s something I think Amazon’s made a mistake in eliminating from their Kindle options line-up. My 1st Kindle, the K2 (which STILL works) had the keyboard, with page turn buttons on both sides. I guess that spoiled me, as any Kindle I’ve tried since, with a touch screen? - I’ve pretty much loathed. Sure.. this one doesn’t have page turn buttons - but there’re clip-on gadgets for that purpose now. They DON’T work as well as the integrated page turn buttons do, but they’re still better than the touch screens, IMO. This one’s nice - small and lightweight, similar in overall size to my Oasis 8th Gen. It has a slightly bigger screen size and not quite as heavy - though neither is REALLY what I’d consider to be heavy. My Oasis 8th Gen model has page turn buttons and a charging cover with a battery - IMO, the BEST Kindle version they’ve ever offered. The screen on this has been better than the most recent Oasis models’ was. That Oasis screen had HORRIBLE problems with image shadowing - it’d carry over residual shadows from the images on the previous screens - eventually over-lapping so much, they’d create solid black bars. I tried that model 3 times - every replacement had the same problem. I finally gave up on it. The screen on this one is similar to the Paperwhites or older Oasis models. I HAVE been having problems with this “sticking” at the end of book chapters, which is rather odd, as it’s not sticking anywhere else throughout a book. Tap the screen over and over - 4,5,6,7 times. It’ll eventually advance, but when it does, it advances the number of times I tapped it while trying to get it “unstuck”. If I only tap it once?, I’ll wait and wait and wait - it won’t move. At first, I blamed it on the page turn gadget I was using, so I disconnected it and tried just using the touchscreen - and the problem continues. I’ve tried adjusting the settings = page refresh, bluetooth, WiFi, airport mode, done a restart, checked for updates, etc - nothing’s fixed it. It’s gotten so annoying, I’m back to using my 8th Gen Oasis. If I can’t figure it out myself, I’ll contact support - after my frustration level goes down a bit…

The #1 in the market for a reason
I have been a Kindle user for years, I've been buying less and less physical books and more ebooks because of the space physical books take. I got this one recently to replace a paperwhite from about 10 years ago, it has all the premium features that the base models did not have 10 years ago. Clear 300 ppi display, good contrast, backlight, touchscreen, and a good size display. Buying books is super convenient, you can also get free classics from Project Gutenberg or borrow from your local library through the Libby app. My only gripe is that, for some reason, Amazon refuses to bring back the old progress bar, which a lot of people are asking for, but not a deal breaker. Also, If you like having multiple books going at the same time, there's no more convenient way. You'll read a lot of hogwash online about how this thing is limited but, newsflash: it's an ereader, designed to read books, it's not a tablet or a computer or a phone, ok? There are plenty of customization options like font size, dark theme, brightness, as well as tons of convenient features, my favorite is being able to touch a word and instantly get the dictionary definition without leaving the book. If you read regularly, want portability, convenience, comfort, and want to buy books from the comfort of your home and start reading within minutes, you'll love this thing. Recommended without reservations. P.S. Amazon, please listen to the users and bring back the old progress bar.
