Don't be afraid to buy used
So happy I took a chance and bought this cd. It had the songs I wanted, but was only available as used, not new. The cd case is just a smidge hard to open, but that's not important. The disc itself is in perfect condition and plays flawlessly. I would buy from this seller again. Thank you!

Form the 80's with love....
In the first years of the eighties, there's no such thing as "alternative nor indie rock" (these labels where the invention of some music white collar music bussines gurus); in fact, there are only two kinds of music: The one that you can hear on the radio and the other, that you can only get read it about in the music magazines or, if you are lucky enough, and you have a friend who have a strage musical taste and have imported records of bands like Siouxie & The Banshees, Ultravox and... Japan you will be lucky enough if he agree to record, for you, a mixtape in a Chrome tape cassette and hear about the bands who look so weird in the rock magazines.Japan was one of the most strange bands from that period. Davdi Sylvain's look, so androginous, so fragile and so misterious are enough reason to give a chance to hear his music and, of course, open the posibilities to other music, far beyound of Iron Maiden, Van Halen or Judas Priest. This album resumes Japan's music career and of course, here can you find "The Ghost In You" in two versions; but the most important thing are that despite Japan's music wiil never get the recognition like other brit bands of that period, like Duran Duran, their influence are more trascendent so we cand find hints of their music in some eveeryday bands.

As close as you're going to get...
To a perfect Japan compilation, most probably. The problem is that any Japan "Best of..." is purely subjective; the band went through so many different styles in their all-too-brief incarnation (Roxy Music poseurs, eurodisco/New Romantic, and asian-influenced) that any list is inherently incomplete. This one comes close. For my tastes I would add " Adolescent Sex ", "Stateline", and "The Unconventional" from their early years; swap out the live version of "Canton" for the studio version off of Tin Drum ; add the album version of "Art of Parties" (they both deserve to be here); the long version of "Quiet Life"; and the 1982 remix of "Life In Tokyo". What would I drop? Maybe "Cantonese Boy" and "Methods of Dance". But you see? It's all subjective. I suggest you get a couple of compliations and make your own list! - db

Wow...I Have Missed Out
Although Japan doesn't have the catchyness of Kajagoogoo or the smoothness of Sade, it is still a great band. Their alternative "art-pop" style was ripped off by countless bands (most specifically Duran Duran). Having said that, I still think Duran Duran is a much better band...but I can't stress enough how much I enjoyed listening to Japan. If you like analog synthesizers, you MUST buy this album. Richard Barbieri laid the foundation for interesting synthesizer sounds in the 80s...his signature sound being the flanged Prophet-5 sequence. Japan had literally NO regard for the "rules" of the music industry, and their work shines because of it.

Good collection
Good collection of songs by Japan. I would recommend this to someone who is just wanting a general overview of their musical catalogue.

Had a horrible feeling when I got the urge for Japan that it wouldn't stand the test of time. Maybe it hasn't but it's as good as *I* remember. What's most bizarre is I remember most of the words as well. Blimey I must have listened to these a lot in my youth.

Would recommend.
I bought this album for 2 songs night porter which I absolutely love I always play it on YouTube and the other second an emotion which got to number 1 in the charts I used to listen to it on Luxembourg radio charts night when this song got to number one i prefer Japan's rendition of this song.

If you want all the well known Hits look no further.
I liked there music back in the day, I never bought any albums or singles apart from the "Exorcising Ghosts "double album. If you want all the well known hits they are here , as far as greatest I leave that to the aficionados .Some of the songs I was less acquainted with . No annoying remixes unlike Soft Cell. All the classics are here.

Good compilation
Great CD but was disappointed to see it had reduced in price just the day after I ordered it. One of the best compilations out there though for a reasonable price.
