A great device for your 4 footer companion!
I have owned this collar since Dec 14 and it is in use on a daily basis and still works as good as it did new. We have an young Australian Sheppard who is pretty strong, both physically and in a stubborn sort of way and tends to be quite hard on things, but he has never managed to do any sort of harm to this collar. This includes almost daily swimming, both fresh and salt water. I have quite honestly only shocked him a half dozen times as he really hates it when I do. About 90% of the time I just use the tone feature when we are on leash free hikes which gets his attention and he normally runs back to see me. Then occasionally I use the vibrate feature when I am teaching him something such as staying on the shoulder of the road when out for a walk. Other times I might use the vibrate is when another dog is around as our dog is pretty defensive/aggressive and has sometimes attacked other dogs. It is just a way to tell him that he better cool it or the next thing coming will be a shock. This works pretty effectively in that situation, just the threat of a shock is all he needs and the vibrate sort of reminds him. I don't know what to think about the claims of holes being burnt into dogs necks from this. This has not happened to our dog and I have zapped him at full 100% but then again our Aussie has a LOT of hair too.As for the durability of the transmitter I have to say that it seems pretty indestructible to me. I have lost count how many times it has fallen out of my pocket and bounced on the ground, rocks etc and has never even shown a scratch! The receiver part that goes on the dog is also very solidly built and most definitely waterproof as well.Bottom line, if and when this one fails, for one reason or another I will replace it with the same one again. This thing has made my headstrong dog a much better companion and has made mine and his enjoyment level much better on the trails and wherever else we go through life! Well worth the money!

Edited: Stopped working. . .Returned
Edited 2/5/15: So unfortunately this stopped charging and I had to return it. It really didn't last long. About a month. I immediately stopped messing around with cheap options or "more humane" options like the citronella and headed for the Sportdog $160 collar that has all the beep, vibration and static shock options we need for training. I believe that this will be what we needed all along. After only 24 hours with the Sportdog my dog is totally different and less anxious. He is starting to understand the rules and can be snapped into listening to commands so that we are all happier. So far it has all the features we need and is solidly built. Sad that this didn't work out but really for the price I guess I shouldn't have had such high hopes.Original review:Our other collar died and the citronella collar just wasn't cutting it so when I saw this collar on sale for a great price I decided to chance it. I won't say that it is the best collar I have had but it isn't terrible. I like that you can switch from beep, to vibrate to electric shock easily, maybe a little too easy in the pocket, so I have had to be careful. I haven't had a chance to test the waterproof-ness of this collar since our current dog, unlike our last one, is not thrilled by water. However, it does stand up to NW rain. Overall this collar has helped us get some results we needed from our rescue dog before some of his territorial and anxiety issues destroyed our front window and the inside of our cars. Beeping him, and occasionally using the vibration mode has brought him out of some of his "people are walking, driving, near my front lawn" freak out craze or "I have been left in the car - alone- I must bark and scratch my anxiety to the world!" and snap him into a place where we can work with him and he can hear commands. Just having this on him has given us a calmer dog who is quicker to listen without even using the collar. However this collar and it's remote are a bit flimsy. They do not feel as durable as our last collar but with this dog it is not really a problem. His level of activity is not at the level of our lab who would run and play for hours. So for the price and results this collar has been worth it. It may not last long but it may not need to if we can have the opportunity to work with the dog to get him into a less anxious and more stable minded dog in the future.

Amazing! Great for parks and the beach!
We bought this for our 10-month-old puppy at the time and it was such a great training tool! We have heavily relied on this for parks specifically for recall and to prevent our puppy from running onto the road when playing with other dogs. It's was fairly easy to use and I really liked it. I have a couple cons but not enough to give it 4 stars. The first con is sometimes the collar would not work and we would need to press the power button on the collar to get it to work again. The second con is more what we were looking for, during bad behaviour, we wanted the beep/sound followed by an instant vibrate to get our dog associated with sound=vibrate. It's not easy switching from sound to vibrate because you need to switch modes. Doesn't sound like a big deal but to switch modes, you delay the sound with vibrate association. Our dog is a springer spaniel poodle mix so he has a bit of hair. We've also found the tighter the collar is, the less vibrate/shock we need to use (obviously) except we feel bad when we have the collar tighter. We mostly use the beep or vibrate function and at the odd time, we've used the shock and the highest we've ever gone is 012/100 (that's when he is running with another dog and not coming back, also we may have had the collar a bit loose). For $50, you can't go wrong with it for angelic behaviour. We live near the water/beaches and it's been really good in the water. We lost our remote a few weeks ago and I purchased the same collar because it has been so great for parks. I have recommended this to strangers who ask about it, it's too good! Lastly, I want to say we never took our dog to training courses (he was pretty easy to train) and the collar has been a great training tool where classes weren't required. It's a small price to pay for good behaviour from your best friend :)

Please don't buy, not fair to your dog
Like the other reviews state, great tool and it worked as it should but there are much better tools out there....This product is just poorly designed, i thought id try it out vs the expensive sport dog product and needless to say I've since returned this and bought a sport dog and am 100% satisfiedThe collar I got was not defective at all and worked great I was just very disappointed in the design considerations.1. (The main reason I returned it) when the battery is low the collar beeps!!!!!!! The point of the beep is to alert your dog stimulation is coming. My poor dog was outside on his tie off wearing the collar and it was beeping at him, he didn't know why and was panicked all alone in the yard. Why make the collar beep? That's is unbelievable!!!! Not to mention the battery only lasted a day. Terrible idea and my dog was collar free all weekend. After using the sport dog collar I realized there was a lot of other things that bothered me with this collar.2. Sleep mode is weird, buttons are super easy pressed in your pocket and you stimulate your dog by a didn't a lot. Sport dog has very firm buttons and hard to accident y press.3. The lcd screen seems good and simple when looking to buy it but trust me its frustrating (not to say I didn't get good at it) you need to view it everytime to know what mode your in. Sport dog is much simpler and you can use it in your pocket not looking at itOverall I returned this product because of the beeping, once I got the more expensive version I realized it's much worth the money.I did like the light on the receiver and the vibration strength was very strong, I liked that I could adjust it.*** I do not work for sport dog, I am just very happy spending the money on it.

Very effective on low settings. Great product.
I am happy I got this but I think people need to test these on themselves before their animal. I put it on myself at 20 and it was mild, at 40 I could feel quite a bit. If you just throw this on your smaller dog at 100 you are most likely setting it too high.Another piece of advice before I review this item. My dog responds to the beep. The sound will distract him and he will stop what he is doing. I tried the vibrate a few times and it scared him quite a bit. He is a 1 year old 120lb dog. I haven't and won't even need to use the shock setting for him. I suggest trying this first also.On that note, the charger is great. It charges both devices with one USB port and charged up fast. It also comes with 3 sizes of the metal pegs. I used the longer ones to avoid having to make the strap super tight. You have the option from 0-100 on vibrate and shock. You can also use the sound to make it beep or light up a little LED on it at night time if you can't see your animal. The range is great. My dog hasn't gone out of range so I have had no issues. I have a good sized yard and it works all over. That being said I haven't had to use it too much as my dog is USUALLY very well behaved. I bought this for some wild moments or on walks when he stops listening altogether. The collar will fit ANY dog. it goes from very small (you may want to cut off some excess) to very large. I have a Newfoundland and it fits him fine with plenty of room to go. It will still fit him when he is 180 LBS. The collar looks like kind of cheap plastic which is the only downside but I'm not going to dock a star because the rest of it works so good.I will update this review if it fails, battery's degrade, or gives me any issues. I have not tried in water and most likely wont. I highly suggest starting with VERY low settings even on the vibrate as it doesn't take much. Don't "test" it on your dog. Make sure you say no before you use it so they know that if they don't listen there is repercussions. Don't start zapping them for no reason. If your researching these I am very happy with it.

Great training tool for excessive barking
I have a very loud Australian Shepard/Border Collie mix who likes to herd all the dogs at the park. She's quite vocal about it, barking pretty much the entire time she's there if there are other dogs there too.I tried this out initially at home so she would know what it was and what it meant. I use the sound option only for her barking and the difference it has made is incredible! After just the first beep at the park, she quieted right down and just ran instead of running and barking.I have never used the shock option on her and would never unless absolutely necessary. I live in a heavily forested area and we have a lot of wildlife, some of which can be quite aggressive. If ever she were to start going after one, I may use that option. I tried the shock on myself and it was enough for me to decide not to use it on her.I have used the vibration function a few times when she got too excited and didn't listen to the sound option and it worked quite well. It just vibrates through her thick fur and the unusual feel of it stops her right away. She starts looking around, trying to figure out what that feeling was and where it came from lolI find that now, just having the collar on tends to keep her quiet and I rarely need to use the sound function anymore unless some dogs break into a fight. Then ineed to use it because she starts barking X gets in the middle to break up the fight and she could end up getting hurt. This is well worth the money and is a wonderful training tool, even for a dog as strong minded as mine!

Good value for the price!
I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before giving my honest review of this e-collar.So far it has functioned as advertised! I'm still getting the hang of using it as a training tool for recall purposes, but overall I find that it functions quite well and does what it is supposed to do. I would suggest to anyone trying one of these for the first time to do some research as to how to use them especially if you are thinking about using it for recall for your dog. There are many videos on youtube that show great methods for introducing your dog to this collar and ensuring that it is effective and works. My dog is slowly starting to catch on to what the vibration means and I find it is strong enough to break his attention if it is focused on something it isn't supposed to be. I haven't tested the range of how far this thing actually works, but it seems to work as advertised in that aspect. The remote control is a bit flimsy and cheap feeling and should be upgraded with better material to reflect the quality, but for the price it doesn't really matter all that much. I do wish there was a way to attach a lanyard to the remote.Charging the collar and the remote is pretty quick and easy. The collar lasts quite a long time on one charge so you don't have to worry about needing to charge it after every use.The collar itself is VERY long, so sizing it is not an issue at all as it can be cut down to whatever size is needed based on the size of dog.Initially I wasn't sure how to change out the metal receptors but I figured out you need to use pliers to twist them off and replace them with the longer ones if you have a dog with a longer coat.Shipping was very quick. I live in a pretty remote area in northern Canada and received this collar within a week of ordering it, so that was great.Overall I'm happy with the product. I haven't had any issues with it as of yet.
