Half Square Acrylic Triangle Ruler, HST- 6.5x6.5 Inches

This is my second of this ruler. Makes trimming half square triangles fast and easy.

To me, this is the gold standard for block trimmers, particularly for HSTs. That’s because (a) it’s incredibly simple to use, and (b) it’s 100% accurate.As long as you can remember to line up the lock correctly (the Bloc Loc logo goes on the lighter side, or whichever side you’ve pressed your seam allowance AWAY from), it’s almost impossible to go wrong. And as long as you press firmly when cutting (same as you would when using any other ruler or template), it’s going to be accurate.Some of my friends prefer the Clearly Perfect trimmers that let you cut HSTs before pressing them open. The problem is, until you press open your HST, you don’t really know its dimensions. If your sewing isn’t perfectly straight (mine often isn’t), your seam is going to wobble, and that’s going to throw off the outer dimensions of your block. So, if you cut before you press, there’s a chance you may cut the block too small. For the sake of accuracy, I think it’s better to take the extra step and press open your HSTs before trimming. And in that scenario, the Bloc Loc is a perfect tool

I learned about this ruler and how to use it yesterday at a quilting class. It's great!!! It squares up your square so that you will end up with a perfect size half square triangle. The only draw back, if the creator of this ruler would put in some basic instructions that would have been helpful. The teacher at my class was the one to show/teach me how to use this ruler.

I love everything about this ruler. I use it to trim quilt blocks.

Perfect for making half square triangles! Received very fast. The reason for four starts was it had a little plastic around it but no bubble wrap or anything. Just thrown in the envelope. Great ruler though.
