I love Aqueon.
I love this filter, however I did buy a second one for my 60 gallon tank. I found that just having one wasn't keeping the algae growth at bay, even when I centered it on the tank. But, having one on each side of the tank has made my little oasis crystal clear and keeps a nice flow of water in the tank as well. My water parameters have been near perfect since getting the second one as well. The filters can get a bit pricey, since I have to put in 4 a month, but it's worth it to me since my tank looks so good and my inhabitants are as happy as can be. I just buy a big 24-48 pack on Amazon and they're half the price of the local store bought ones. This filter is nice and quiet and only gets loud if my water levels are low. However, even then it doesn't bother me, as I find the sound of flowing water soothing. This tank is so good that every now and again I like to treat my fish with ginger to keep them nice and healthy, I'll do this over the course of a couple of days and I do find that ginger will tint my water a bit orange-y/brown. But once I stop and let my filter do it's thing, my tank clears up and is a blue beauty again in no time. I love Aqueon in general, it's affordable and always does the job for me.

Awesome filter!
This filter is fantastic, it is easy to use, easy to clean, extremely effective, and can be nearly silent if you remember to keep your water level topped up. I have a 55 long tank with live plants and its right on the edge of overstocked (I monitor water quality with the API Freshwater Master Test Kit and do ~weekly water changes as well as adding freshwater about 1-2 times a week to maintain the water level). This filter is strong enough to keep up with the demands of my tank without blasting my guppies or other slow moving fish around (I even have 2 African Dwarf Frogs that have no problem with the current) and it is almost silent with the appropriate water level maintained. If you prefer a more turbulent exchange you can lower the water level slightly.Highly recommended. The only real drawback are the proprietary cartridges but if you keep an eye out and get them on sale the refills are not too prohibitively expensive and in the end they work far far better than the charcoal in a stretched stocking filters I used with much cheaper (and louder) filters.

Reasonable price, crystal clear water, "QuietFlow" not "SilentFlow"
My tank has never looked cleaner! I didn't realize how poorly my previous filter was doing until I set this one up. I was afraid that I might have only needed the 50 and that the 55/75 would be too large or make too strong a current for my cichlids, but I haven't noticed any problems. It sure does filter a lot of water very quickly. I don't notice any of the debris that was being left by the previous filter. The only potential negative is that I guess with a name like "QuietFlow" I expected to not hear the motor at all and to just hear the water. It isn't obnoxious or anything, if I had it in my bedroom at night I might be annoyed, but the water is louder than the motor. Definitely a "QuietFlow" and not a "SilentFlow".

Honest 4 star review. Oscar owner!
Update!Used this filter for a couple years and it ended up finally tanking out. Bought it again this last week and working as it should and happy Oscar fish. The motor ended up melting and stopped working. Pretty sure my water level was a little low (oops). Same as the below review. Obviously not silent. Same buzz coming from top lid. But i like the filter and it keeps my tank clean for a VERY VERY dirty breed of fish.(Original)Honest review! This filter does fine. Not 5 stars but i like it!This filter does well for my Oscar tank. It is able to filter out a ton of the massive amount my year old Oscar will throw in waste. It does have an annoying buzz come from the top lid. Just tap it and it's gone for a couple days or more. Not really a massive issue. Also It's not silent. You can tell it's running.I upgraded to this model for extra filtration and instantly saw a change in how clear my water was. Suction was good enough. I do a good bit of water changes and cleaning anyways so i didn't need it to be a vacuum. The filters get filthy fast... Which is positive because it means it is doing the job.One last word would be that you need to pay attention to if the power goes out or also larger fish could hit the filter intake and knock it off. Easy to fix and put back but apparently it can bother the motor. My Oscar hits it on occasion and it makes a crazy loud noise... So i am well aware when it happens.Easy to set up and use. Easy to clean. Simple large filter. If you are a fish keeper this is a solid filter. Nothing flashy. Easy to use. Give it a shot!

6 months in and still filtering
This morning, I thought I was going to have to buy a new filter. The first one (that came with the tank) stopped running after a year, and this one stopped after 6 months.Without much expectation, I disassembled it for a deep cleaning (I periodically change out the water and wipe it down with water changes). I disconnected the pump box from the filter box and removed the intake tube and the bottom of the pump box to get to the fan. The fan came out with it's orange cap, silver rod, and magnet that lets the motor turn it. I wiped the thin layer of gunk of and reassembled the pieces of the pump box. Upon plugging it in, the fan started spinning quickly. I just had to wipe everything else down, reassemble the pieces, and replace the water where the filter pads go.It's running like brand new!Maybe it's strange to start a review with, "5* I had to fix it!" But it's silly to think that it wouldn't require some kind of cleaning or maintenance. The fact that it was so easy to clean compared to the other one and the fact that I could immediately tell that it was working again, that's what gets the 5*.(But is someone comes out with a self cleaning filter, I may be tempted to make the switch!)

Breaks down within 3 months
It was working perfectly fine until today. Purchased May 9th, can't return after June 9th, breaks down on June 23 thankfully my husband could fix it but now it makes way more noise.

Don't believe all you read
I have owned 3 of these filters all different sizes from smallest to this one. Before buying the aqueon filters I tried all the so called best out there fluval included. None have performed like these. They make noise sure but running water does. The bathtub isn't quiet when you fill it is it? They are easy to clean, powerful and keeps my tanks crystal clear. I have a variety of fish who swim and school happily became of the clean water they are swimming in. You will see when you change the filter cartridge what crap it takes from your tank. I change mine every 4 to 6 weeks. I highly recommend it, and will continue to buy them if I need to. My first is still going and it's been 4 years now.

(UPDATED) 1st filter defective, 2nd is fine
The media could not be loaded. The 1st filter made an EXTREMELY loud grinding mechanical sound and had to be returned. Trusting all the 5 star reviews I tried ordering another (Quiet Flow 75 model) and the 1st one must have just been defective as the 2nd one doesn't do that at all. The hum of it is a little louder then I was hoping for but not bad (video with audio attached). Good up to 90gal, running it on a minimalistic 52gal fancy goldfish tank.

Super Silent
This filter is literally silent. Other than the actual sound of the water this thing doesn't make a sound. I have 2 aquariums in my bedroom and the one running this filter is right beside my bed, so having a filter that doesn't vibrate or hum is very important to me. It even has a buffer on the back to press up against your tank to stop vibrations. Give it time when you fire it up for the first time - it might seem like it is not working but it needs time to suck up water and get going.I recommend this filter 100% (plus the Amazon price is a solid 25$ cheaper than any pet store around here)
