In-depth research and very well written
A very well written and 360 degree view of the life and times of the Mysore kingdom usurpers. This book provides a paradigm shift to readers who have been fed lies in the name of history by leftist and Muslim historians.Probably the length of the book could have been cut a little short. This work is worth a broken promise by the author 🙏

Tipu Sultan: one of the most debated and celebrated figures.
The media could not be loaded. I liked Vikram Sampath's brand new book though, it's not brand new but the kind of demand and love it is getting from all age groups especially from youngests of my age is commendable. In that sense, it is surely a brand new book.First of all, I would like to talk little bit about the author who has produced several worth keeping books in the bookself which are loaded with notes, have backing of several authentic, first-hand, primary sources. What I admire the most about him is he always relies in providing substantial sources for whatever is being mentioned in the books. He is one of the true nationalist historians who I must say, has no fear of geeting trolled or anything else.Talking about the current book, he has shown his talent of storytelling as to how should be presented the contested history of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan, as a fascinating tale.I came across a lot of new information while reading this book that shook me in terms of what these two man's of 17th century were and how have we end up depicting them in 21st century. One can only comprehend the psyche of tipu, the so-called freedom fighter but surely a religious bigot, a perfect instance of religious fundamentalism, after understanding his father's thought process towards diverse topics and how has his nature contributed in making his son what millions of people might have come across after reading this masterpiece like me.His father was a good strategist, prolific in warefare technology which he showed during his several conquests of Southern India but he usurped the throne of the same benefactor's son who had by then become the Maharaj of Mysore, a womanizer, showed the introduction of barbarity in the places beyond the Mysoreanterritory, these are the things that can't be forgotten. On the contrary, his son was someone who was much brutal than his father. He presented an example of how would a religious zealot look like and behave like.Last but not the least, I would congratulate sir Vikram Sampath for his sterling success being a historian and would hope that books like what he produced so far will come out in future as well which eventually raise questions as why can't these books be introduced at school and the university level?

Last Nail in the Coffin
My god!!! What an interesting book read it was and Vikram Sampath is a GEM...all the things done to white-wash Tipoo's cruelties, including the HINDU persecution, by the 'DIS'torians fails with just this one book...900 pages with some odd 150 pages of bibliography, this is the last nail in the coffin when it comes to Tipoo's history...this must be included in the academia... Absolutely brilliant and very well researched...Mr. Sampath thanks for this book

A chapter of history handled with care
The author has done an excellent job of delivering a controversial part of history to the readers, neutrally. As much as Tipu has been a divisive figure steeped in religious fanatism, the author has painted a fair picture which projects his human qualities too. His rise and decline coincides with the dark 18th century of our country and the consolidation of the British power. Nowhere has the author painted Tipu in bad light, but has simply stated facts with rigorous research on the subject.Tipu's fall from power is attributed to a number of reasons, discontent among his subjects due to his religious policies, extreme autocracy, inflexibility to accommodate dissent, poor administrative instincts, faith in wrong men, etc. But the reader also gets a picture of a fragmented South India. Major powers like the Marathas, Nizam, nawabs in the Carnatic, fighting among themselves for petty gains. This short-sightedness among these powers is thus equally responsible for the fall of Mysore, as much as his own fallacies. The beneficiaries being the British, for whom Tipu was the last real hurdle for dominance in South India.About the book, it is essentially divided into two parts, the first 280-pages talk about Haider Ali's rise to power. And the rest about Tipu Sultan. Hence the title of the book could have been different.

A MODERN HISTORICAL CLASSIC
The Author has made himself a Brilliant Researcher who managed to lift the veil from the seemingly secular image of blood thirsty Tipu Sultan who had vowed to cleanse the entire territory of modern Day Karnataka and Kerala of Hindus and Christians.Actually Indian students have been taught a distorted history so far, depicting the imaginary secular credential of Tipu Sultan. In fact Tipu persecuted Hindus in southern India in a more brutal and ruthless manner than Aurangzeb did in the northern part. The Author deserves congratulations for calling A SPADE a SPADE.Looking forward to more such Classic Research based work from the brilliant Author. Thanks Amazon for speedy delivery.

One of the best Book where 100+ pages defected to reference?
When you see approximately 100+ Page letting the readers know where the source of information is coming from with such details, even the page numbers where its been return in the book of reference written by British offficers and British government of the time Hider and Tippus own courtesan and other historians and writers along with the article and neww published in other form along with tye links leaved no ambiguity in reader's mind that author has done 100% justice to tge work without being biased.it's very rare now a days where author are being true to writing irrespective of what their personal opinion are giving credit to the subject where it is due and criticizing where it is needed along with proof.Wonderful writing vikram. Have brought few of your other book Written by you.
