DOESN'T PLAY 4K Movies
I have been using this drive since February. The number one reason for buying it is that it claims to Play 4K DVDs. The advert gives the impression that the drive will play 4K DVDs straight from the box. It doesn't. In its 'Drive Information' the 'Status' of the drive is 'not yet enabled'. This means it will not play 4K DVDs. To enable the drive to play/RIP 4K DVDs you have to 'flash' the firmware with additional software from a third party. When you've flashed the drive with this firmware the 'Drive Information Status' will read 'Enabled'. This means the drive can now play/RIP 4K dvds. This information is NOT in the advert or in the instructions that came with the drive. If you flash the wrong firmware into the drive, theres a high chance it might render the drive useless. I would not have purchased this drive if I knew it needed to be 'Enabled' in order to play/RIP 4K dvds. There are many standard Blu-ray players that will play/RIP 4K dvds once the drive's firmware has been flashed, or comes with the drive enabled. Which means I didn't 'have' to buy this one because it has 4K on it. It plays standard DVDs and Blu-rays OK. I haven't recorded any data to discs as yet. I have not flashed my drive so I'm unable to play/RIP 4K dvds. ***Additionally Information 28 Nov 2025*** I have updated the firmware of this drive from MakeMKV website. The drive now READS 4K discs which allows me to save mkv flies. But the drive doesn't play 4K movies.

A handy device to enjoy high-res movies
It's a clean, simple, portable drive that can read and write pretty much any optical media you'll come across. Before purchasing check that your computer is able to run 4k blu Ray's, because a lot of them are not. I use external 4k blu ray drive with MakeMKV, and it worked straight out of the box for blu-rays and UHD 4k blu-rays, I didn't have to flash a new firmware for it at all! This might not be the case for everyone, but you can find the correct firmware in the MakeMKV forums very fast! This is 100% worth it just for it being compatible with MakeMKV. On Mac I am able to rip Blu-rays with MakeMKV.but you will need to go find your own software to play Blu-ray movies such as MacGo Blu-ray Player and you’ll likewise need to hunt down a decent Blu-ray authoring software. So, if you're looking for a semi-afdordable drive that supports 4k Blu-Rays, this is perfect.

Good one for the Money
The product works as described and it is able to read both BluRay and UHD discs. I have to do a firmware update with my app.

a ripable drive and USB hub all in one! a no brainer!
At first struggled to get this to read 4K discs. I it didn't work strait out of the box(bag). I attempted to flash the firmware multiple times with my Windows 10 PC and it just wouldn't take. I was about to send it back, but decided to give my Windows 11 laptop a shot and boom, it worked right away. I'm not sure if it was the OS or I did something wrong. I did end up having two different labeled downloads for the firmware, so I was probably using one that wasn't good for this drive. Either way, it now works. I like the fact that it also doubles as a USB hub. I decided to rip a 4K disc to a flash drive I plugged right into it. I didn't even realize it had this function when ordering it. I'm all about versatility.
