A UNIQUE ZOMBIE STORY
The world as we know it begins to crumble when a plane crashes in a wooded area and the dead begin to rise out of their graves and walk the earth. The dead coming back to life is only the first of many signs to indicate that the end of the world is near as ghosts take possession of peoples minds and Jesus returns to earth. Or is it Jesus? Another man professing to be the Son of God also appears in the world and the two Jesus' seem to be at odds with one another. Detective Phillip "Kane" Makane doesn't believe that either one of the men are Jesus and plans to find evidence that will back him up. Finding the evidence will be more difficult and stranger than he could ever have imagined. Jesus Freaks is an interesting apocalyptic tale told in a uniquely stylish fashion; with hand-written diaries, illustrations, and movie script-like segments. The story is perhaps the most unique zombie tale on the market today. Though the zombies are a main aspect of the story the mystery behind the two Jesus' weighs in almost as strongly, and the odd entity that jumps from body to body in much of this story could almost count as a third aspect of horror for this tale. This story starts off with a bang and doesn't let up. Jesus Freaks would make a great addition to any adult horror section of a library especially libraries that have a zombie or apocalyptic collection.

Horror Funness
I would have given this a 3.5 star rating if Amazon had allowed...Given the fact that I am such a huge fan of horror films (and I love zombie movies), one would think that I would have read my fair share of zombie books. I, however, have never read a single one...until now.The apocalypse has hit and the dead are rising. Chaos is spreading, blood is coming down from the sky, and people are dying everywhere. Two men, one calling himself Jesus and the other going by the name of Yeshua, are both claiming to be the resurrected messiah. Phillip, a cop in Philadelphia, decides that he is going to figure out what is going on.I thought this was different from your standard horror story. Some of the plot points are a bit fantastical and there are a lot of typos, but I thought this book was just a fun read.(There comes a point where being too picky with some books is a pointless venture.) What I liked the best was the subplot centering around the Jesus and Yeshua characters.I would recommend this book to horror fans and bizarro fans alike.

DON'T BOTHER!
While the idea behind this book is a good one...the execution leaves much to be desired! I love zombie books and bizarro fiction, and I am used to books that don't always make "sense", but this is just crap. No, worse than that...Boring Crap! It wasn't the worse book I have ever tried to read. I did make it 1/3 of the way through, but just gave up realizing why torture myself!

Intense ride
This is the first book I've read by Andre Duza and I have to say it was an intense ride. This book is truly a gem. As a huge fan of action flicks and b-movies this is one of the most bizarre and action packed horror books I've read in a long time. The writing has a really cinematic feel to it, with brief scenes that flicker in and really move the story along. The story line is complex and actually really quite epic. This book really has it all, two messiahs both claiming to be the return of Christ, a serial killer who can jump in and out of different bodies, an endearing relationship between a young man and a mentor, blood and gore, sex and violence, all taking place amid the zombie apocalypse. Someone should make this into a movie!

It had flashes of true brilliance
The premise of the End Times and the Dead rising from the grave to walk the earth is an amazing concept, especially considering there are scores of the dead as zombies and Jesus comes back...twice. It seems as though the novel was a good 100 pages too long. It had flashes of true brilliance interspersed with writing that was not quite as polished as I would have liked. However, just for a genuinely unique look at a Tribulation of truly horrifying biblical proportions, Jesus Freaks is worth checking out.

Fresh Meat for the Zombie Apocalypse
Andre Duza's zombie novel Jesus Freaks is more than a work of horror fiction. A strange hybrid of horror, conspiracy, and science fiction it is best placed with underground classics such as Moorcock's "Jerry Cornelius Chronicles," Wilson and Shea's "Illuminatus! Trilogy," and Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49."Jesus Freaks is Duza's vision of the not-to-distant future, in which the dead have come back to life. A mysterious plane crash throws detective Philip Makane into the center of events which spiral further and further out of control from there on. Add to that the ceaseless rainfall of what DNA testing reveals to be human blood - the arrival of two individuals who possess super human powers; they who both claim to be Jesus. Complicating things further is a demonic entity named "Boring," which is determined to corrupt and invert the survivors' efforts to maintain - much less - restore those aspects of human existence which are decent and noble.
