X-mas gift, didn't arrive on time!
Already have a maverick meat thermometer. Had it for 4-5 years and it still works great. Got this as a gift for a family member. In all fairness, I ordered it only 3-4 days before X-mas, so I wasn't concerned when it didn't arrive before the 25th. No big deal for a good product!

The Last Thermometer You'll EVER Need!!!
I was at my wits end with meat that was underdone, or worse, overdone. After browsing several meat thermometers online, I settled on the PT-100 by Maverick. It was a professional grade thermometer, and I thought, "Heck-can't get any better than commercial."Four days after I placed my order, my thermometer arrived. Neatly packaged, I was pleasantly surprised at how neat and concise the directions were-I hate long, drawn-out instruction booklets!I was a little skeptical when I pulled out my thermometer... How could this little guy really help me cook a better pot roast? It didn't feel substantial-just like another kitchen gadget.Just to put my mind at ease before I trusted my chicken to it, I tested it on a number of items around my house. A cup of lukewarm water, a chilled piece of cantaloupe. (I even put this thermometer in my own mouth. E[...] I know) My home mercury thermometer confirmed the accuracy of each of these tests.After knocking it accidently off the counter onto my slate floor and trusting that it had to be broken, I was shocked to see no visual damage, and revisiting these earlier tests showed that it was working just as well as right out of the package! (I later revisited the Amazon page and saw it's listed as "shockproof")Now on to my chicken. I placed the probe into the meatiest portion of one breast on my grill, careful to avoid touching the grill itself. It quickly registered 159 degrees. Just shy of the 165 needed. After a few more minutes, I tested it again, and saw that the chicken had reached the suggested 165 on the thermometer. (Did I mention there is a handy meat guide written right there on the body of the thermometer? How handy and helpful is that?!)The true test was when I brought the chicken inside and carved into the first piece. Perfection! It was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. No tough, overcooked chicken here! No pink, raw meat to trudge back outside to the grill. Hallelujah!My husband proclaimed it to be the best chicken I ever made. I am so excited by my new-found "confidence booster", I may just break down and cook that prime rib I've always been afraid to attempt, afraid to ruin the pricey cut of meat.A fantastic find, and well-worth the money spent... it's pricey, but it is absolutely the last thermometer you will EVER need!I will definitely recommend this product to others.

Perfection without guesswork!
I've been using this product for a little over a month now and I find it it's totally accurate and easy to use. I use the temperature guidelines on the face of the handle as a guideline, and over time, I've become pretty good at determining the way the meat is going to look when we cut it at the table. You have to take it off the grill at about 7 degrees less than the desired temperature because the meat will continue to cook for a few minutes after it's removed. It works better on thicker cuts of meat, but if you have a steak that has thinner ends, you may not be able to achieve perfection ... not the fault of the thermometer. Also, you might want to remove the steak from the hot part of the grill to check it if it's a thin cut.The real beauty of this is that you don't have to cut the steak to find out if it's done to your liking. You lose so much juice if you have to put it back on the grill after it has been cut. I have not had to do that, even once, since I bought this thermometer.One last note, and this is purely speculation: A friend of mine purchased this about 7 or 8 months ago for $99. I paid $52 on Amazon. That is one very large difference, and I'm wondering whether it is a clearance in anticipation of a newer model. In any case, I'm totally happy with it, and the price makes me even happier.Happy grilling to perfection.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Maverick Pro-Temp Commercial Thermometer!!
I tested this Maverick Pro-Temp Commercial Thermometer... against the Classic Super-Fast Thermapen I own. And overall I like the Maverick Pro the best! The Thermapen is almost impossible to read even in a semi low light situation. But the Maverick Pro-Temp is amazing well lit and bright. And at half the cost whats not to love? I found them to be between one and one half degrees in temp reading. Which one was the most accurate, its hard to tell! But I have no problem dealing with one or one and a half temp discrepancy. After all we are not dealing with rocket science! I found them both well constructed and easy to use. Again with the edge going to the Maverick Pro given it was the only one that has a meat temp chart affixed to the body of the tester. I also found them to read the temp is a comparable time frame within a second or two of each other. "NOW FOR A WORD OF CAUTION"!! When checking the temp of deep frying oil or boiling water. Note that as you remove the probe from the hot oil and or water to close the probe back into the body. The probe will be very, very hot! Do not put your hand against the probe and attempt to close it into the body. Wait until the probe cools or use some type of hand protection!

Great probe, but $$
These are a must when cooking meats. I needed an instant read thermometer as mine cheap one finally failed. I watched several reviews on YT as well as reading ones on here. I bought this and I am very happy that I did. Very clear screen to read temps and feels pretty durable. My only complaint is the price. From what I can tell it's worth it but time will show. So far very happy.

Love it but wish it had an "instant-on" switch...
A very handy probe for quick spot-checks on meats and such on my smoker. The temperature guide is nice, and it falls in line with all my other temperature probes. Robust construction. Very easy to read. Only thing I don't like is there is no way to bring it "back to life" other than to fold and unfold the probe. That is to say, if left open it will time out to save batteries. Seems I always forget this and have to finagle the probe to life when the other hand has the lid open. But, minor issue. When unfolded, the entire probe is nearly a foot long, so no singed fingers. Nice rubberized grips and loop that a carabiner or hook can easily go through to hang it up. Easily slides in the back pocket when folded up.

One of the best cooking tools you could own.
If you are serious about cooking like I am, this is a must have.I have spent all summer BBQing and as most serious BBQers know it's done when it's done. Time isn't as important as the actual internal temp of your cook. This temp gauge gives you nearly instant internal temps without allowing all that precious juice to escape your meat. It's pin point allows you to probe several place to assure what you are cooking is at the right temp before taking your food off your cooker.Never screw up another steak again.
