The San Francisco Music Box Company Anastasia - Alexandra & Nicholas Hinged Trinket Box

This music box was the perfect birthday gift for my then-friend,now-girlfriend. She's a huge fan of the film and claims that Anastasia is her favorite non-Disney princess. She didn't know it then, but she gave me the idea of searching for the trinket box when we saw the movie together last year. I was incredibly happy to find the item available online that I immediately jumped on the thought of purchasing it. When I did, I hid it from her for almost two months; just in time for her birthday this past January. I had the gift wrapped so I didn't take a glimpse of it until she did; she and I were not disappointed. I saw the music box two months after I bought it and when I did, all the thoughts of it would live to the expectation were laid to rest. The item looks just like the picture; it is nicely crafted and the designs are spot-on. It works properly and it soothingly plays the tune Once Upon a December like it should. The Alexandra & Nicholas figures dance around with the music and stops almost suddenly when the tune ceases. My girlfriend was in disbelief (to say the least) when I presented her with this gift; she said it was the most thoughtful present anyone has ever given her; thanks to this (partially, anyway), we became a couple a month later. Conclusion or point of the story? The Anastasia - Alexandra & Nicholas - Hinged Trinket Box makes a great gift for any lady friend or family member who is a fan of the film or just likes pretty music jewelry boxes. It was definitely worth the price for a product that is well-designed and built.

I bought this for my fiance as she always wished for one of those, I found many similar products but this one was truly the best from all aspects! since we are really in love with it, 1000 lines review won't be enough, so I'm making a pros VS cons instead!Pros:- Extremely high quality! very sturdy and heavily built which will definitely makes last for many years to come.- Very very fine details inside out, the drawings behind the dancing figures are actually engraved/eminent and covered by acrylic or glass, which gives it a very elegant 3D feel. Also the details of the plastic figures are wonderful.- The core of the box is covered with black velvet which gives protection for small jeweleries.- The music is really nice and relaxing and works 100% mechanically which gives it that vintage and classic feel. It turns on when you open the box and off when you close it. (gets turned from the bottom to charge it).- Compact and cute size, yet you can still use it as a small jewellery box, it can hold up to 5 rings and couple of pendants.---------------Cons:I bought another one for my mom. However, one of the 2 boxes had a problem or I'm not sure if it's normal. But sometimes when the box is closed the music doesn't stop immediately, it rather plays for few seconds then it turns off. That's because the figures keep on dancing inside the box until they pump into something lol.All in all I LOVE IT!

When I bought this, I had to open the package and check the mechanism and hinge/top half because of the previous reviews (and I would recommend doing so for anyone buying the music box just in case).Although not metal, it is made from a thick, strudy plastic and is very heavy with reinforcement and gears in the center--if it were metal, the thing would weigh as much as a bowling ball. The cover is also very ornate and beautiful; the inside black portion seems a bit drab and boring, but that's how it was in the movie. The inside top part matches the quality and thickness of the outer plastic and is covered by a transparent plastic on the inside. The music plays via a turnable switch on bottom, and plays very clearly and fairly loudly (very crisp).I do have 3 future concerns for this product though: (1:) The gear mechanism, but that's expected for all mechanical devices. (2:) The top part, including the hinge, seems to be a weak spot, and has an easier capability to break. (3:) The figurines in the middle are held up by a spring and are pushed down by the clear plastic when closed. I fear that years of opening and closing will scratch the plastic and rub off the paint on the figurines. Also some worries about the spring permanently remaining bent.

It is pricey, but it is a treasure! My husband ordered it and was not impressed with the quality when it came in. He thought it looked chintzy. I admit, the paint job could be better in some areas. For instance, the pearls are painted on and not always perfectly, and the little swan on the lid is not entirely within the lines - but since I love Anastasia and I love the song Once Upon a December, I just love this box. It is properly called a trinket box. You can fit a few rings in it or earrings but not much jewelry. It is a nice size, fits in one hand, and has a nice weight to it. The song plays perfectly in classic music box form. Feminine and pretty! For me, 5 stars.

The top part of the box consist two parts, there's a round glass part which is the part that opens and closes the box and there's the outer part that have the swan drawing on the inside and these two parts are supposed to be glued together.The outer part came off the glass part when I first opened my box so they might want to use a stronger kind of glue to hold them together. I used super glue to fix it and it looks amazing now.The details are unbelievably beautiful I'm deeply in love with the paint work and all the carvings.There's enough space for a few rings inside the box beside the dancing couples. and of course the tunes play wonderfully.If you're a life long Anastasia fan then trust me you'd want to own this music box, it's beautiful and worth the price!
