The ring portion is made of noticeably thinner metal and can be bent. You just want to make sure that you're bending it to the size of the tip of your finger, not the base of your finger where you would usually be wearing a ring. They're simple little devices but they're enough to protect my fingers. I have found that they also encourage better cutting techniques for me since I'm prone to holding food with my fingers parallel to the food instead of perpendicular when I am slicing food.
