A superb lens
I purchased this lens as an upgrade to a NEX-C3 Kit purchased with the 18-55mm lens, this lens makes a brilliant addition to an already superb kit. add the wide angle adaptor to it and you have near perfection, E series lenses are not cheap but they are of superb build quality and for a lightweight camera but with heavyweight performance you can not beat this lens as an addition to what is possibly the best system in its class.

Pancake lens, compact in it's own right and essential if you are using converter lenses
Bought this lens so I could connect the fisheye converter as it is essential if you want to do that. I do like the quality of the pictures this takes and the lens is much less bulky than the standard telephoto lens the camera comes with as standard. I found that switching from the fisheye converter to the pancake lens and back was a very simple process and has added a new dimension to my photography that I am very pleased with.

Works nicely with the ultra wide converter
These two should really be sold together.Have used mine for a few months now and am really pleased with the pictures.

Terrific
Terrific lens. mIniscule in size, image quality excellent and not that expensive. Pair it with the wide angle adapter for a true 18mm (in 35mm terms) focal length. Loved it. Wish I could say the same about the aweful NEX6 I got it for.

A dubious buy
I would hardly call the camera pocket sized with this on, but it is certainly slimmer than with a 35 or 50 mm lens, or the stock zoom lens. The latter is only slightly slower when zoomed out, but this is a prime lens, so its quality will be better. This lens turns your camera into a point and shoot camera. However, stick some macro extensions on one end or the fisheye on the other and it excels. If reducing the size or weight of the camera is your objective, don't bother. Too much is sacrificed. If, on the other hand, you are buying the ultra wide or fisheye adapter, you will need this or the 20mm version.

Not good
When I attached this to my sony a5000, image was blurry and my camera displayed an error saying incorrect lens..i replaced with my lens kit and everything was ok. I placed this item back and still it has a blurred image. I returned this item and bought from london camera exchange a similar one and everything was fine. This item was delivered in a box with bubble warp around the lens but it did not come with the original sony box and manual.

SEL1650 sadly better in every way comparing to SEL16F28 :(
using it on A6000. Wanted it to replace my kit lens SEL1650. Sadly this one sucks comparing the kit one :( Was about to use it with VCLECF1 (with this adapter it works fine).SEL1650 has only one disadvantage - barrel distortion (which is visible only on RAW files), BUT with this "issue" its actually ~14mm instead of 16mm. When you apply lens correction it looks good and becomes true 16mm (if I compare images with SEL16F28)SEL16F28 is softer with ANY aperture comparing to SEL1650 in corners AND center (brought one. also borrowed another from friend to compare, trough my was defected..) Also it lacks a lot lens functions that SEL1650 has (including OSS). SEL1650 has WAY better AND faster focusing in stills and video. Clearly visible on moving subjects and in low light. So I only use SEL16F28 with VCLECF1 adapter for fisheye effect for still images in daytime. Will buy "Samyang/Rokinon 12mm f/2" hoping it will give way better quality comparing to kit lens (which is sadly awesome comparing to SEL16F28)EDIT 2016: I did buy Samyang 12mm F2, this lens is manual, but easy to focus with focus-peaking function. can't even compare it to SEL16F28, Samyang extreme corners wide open are sharper than SEL16F28 center at ~F5 :D This small pancake only good for small size, no quality found in stills (I am a pixel peeper), maybe on NEX camera its good with smaller megapixels, but on A6000 with 24 photos are only usable if you do not crop-in (and I like to do it a lot in post)
