The Summer Children (The Collector, 3)

Book 3
One of the most intriguing aspects of this book is the exploration of the nature of evil and an unexpected female serial killer, which is a nice change from the norm. Hutchison delves into the killer's psyche and motivations, and the result is a deeply unsettling and thought-provoking read. The book also raises important questions about the role of law enforcement in society and the toll that hunting down dangerous criminals can take on those tasked with that job.Overall, "The Summer Children" is a gripping and intense read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Hutchison's writing is superb, and the book's exploration of complex themes will stay with you long after you finish reading. If you're a fan of thrillers or crime novels, this book is a must-read.4.5 Stars

Whoa, this one hits hard
This third book in the series focuses around Detective Ramirez. It's a little tough to read just because of what happens to kids. So if that's a trigger for you, this is a warning.

The Summer Children
The 3rd book in The Collector series proves that Dot Hutchinson knows how to build on a story, bringing characters from the first two books into the fold seamlessly. You don't want to miss this one!

Well done
Great follow up and follow along to the other two books in the series. The chapter intros were a bit rough/raw but that's part of a great read

Save The Children
An "angel" was waking children up and making them watch as she killed their parents. She would take them to the home of Mercedes and tell she would keep them safe. It was a case with no leads and many twists.

The best in the series so far
So reading this series is like binge watching a season of Criminal Minds. I'm as invested in the FBI agents as I am the the cases their working on. And, each book just gets better and better, drawing me in deeper. This book follows the same core group of FBI agents with a few new ones added into the mix. Children whose parents have been murdered by an "angel" trying to save the kids, keep showing up on Agent Mercedes Ramirez' porch. They're told that she will save them. The one thing connecting most of the children is a history of abuse or neglect by their parents. Whoever is killing the parents, truly believes they're doing so to save the children. Agent Ramirez must dive into her own past and memories to try to figure out who the killer is.I loved how Hutchison included chapters with the killer's thoughts/memories to give us deeper insight into their psyche and their why behind their actions. This book made me laugh at times and cry at others. It paints a very real and vivid picture of child abuse and the flaws in the system meant to prevent such abuse.Out of the three books I've read in the series so far, I think this one is my favorite. If you're a fan of thriller books and shows like Criminal Minds, this is a must read series.

A brilliant, original series
I love the Collector series - read The Butterfly Garden a while ago and thought it was so interesting and original, so decided to buy the rest. I wasn't disappointed; what a fantastic group of characters. Each book is written from the viewpoint of a different woman, either a 'victim' (inverted commas because there's nothing victim-like about these women!) or a member of the FBI team. Characters who are introduced in previous books either headline or are featured in the following books, and their relationships are so strong, I kept thinking about them for days after I finished the last book. The Summer Children is hard to read at times because it deals with child abuse, physical and sexual, but it's certainly not glorified. The children and the team who protect them are the focus, and although there are some heart-rending moments the focus is on strength and recovery with the help of good people. It was great to find out more about Ramirez and her background (again, painful to read) and like the other books, the book has an interesting and original spin on the 'serial killer' trope. These books are very well-written; the characterisation is superb and I thoroughly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of quality crime fiction.

Hardgoing
Ramirez is an FBI agent, her role was crimes against children, what she didn't expect were a stream of children turning up at her house covered in blood, after investigation it was found all the parents had been killed, each set of parents bar one had a history of abuse against their children, the person killing the parents called herself the Angel dressing all in white, she truly believed she was helping the children, the hunt is on to catch the killer before the Angel killed againThe story wasn't bad, we reach the point where we have learnt all we need to know and assume the book was ending but it droned on and on

Great read!
I was waiting expectantly for this book and it didn't disappoint. Following the agents through another gruelling case and how they cope emotionally particularly Ramirez was portrayed really well. The only reason I marked it down was I thought the Spanish/ Mexican... Was unnecessary. Looking forward to another book from this author.

Another cracking read
Another cracking read. Continuing character development from first two books with the Butterflies healing processes still playing a part. My only negative, I found the end conclusion came together too quick from all parties but maybe thats why I am not a writer!I dont read many books in these genres but happy I entered the garden as an observer and continue watching from the sidelines.
