Good
Great character depictions. Definitely a suspenseful tale with enticing plot. Unsatisfying ending though - wrapped up too quickly. Hope for a sequel.

3 STARS
Interesting read. So very many twists and surprises. I thought it was pretty good. But I don't like long long paragraphs

Interesting blend of characters
I had a feeling the old gal wouldn't turn out to be all she was cracked up to be. Wealthy and borderline destitute (as well as criminal), old, young and younger, quite the collection of characters supporting the storyline. And the twists at the end were not expected, but as in real life, what ever is, for better or for worse? A recommended read.

There is great character development of the grandmother and the father as well as an enticing mystery.

Life stood still…
Until I finished this book!! It really is a page turner. At times times it was hard to understand what the father was saying or doing because of the British ways of saying things. The whole story was so good! The characters were so interesting. Definitely recommend

Good story, for the most part.
A very different story line. Many twists and turns. However, I did not find Vince likable…. I thought he was a loser, as Leah mentioned numerous times!I would have given it a higher rating except for two things. One, being in the USA it was a difficult read because of the English terms, slang, and improper use of verbs. Many times I had to read a sentence or paragraph over again to try and figure out what was said. Secondly, I did not like the ending AT ALL. If you are going to end a story like that, leaving the reader hanging, you need to write a sequel!

Whoa!
The twist and turns that this one took! It was insane and full of drama, manipulation, jealously and had me hooked from jump! It’s told from 2 povs … the grandmother (Yvonne Castle) and the father (Vince Spencer).Yvonne hasn’t spoken to her daughter Scarlet in almost a decade because of Vince, the low life ex druggie she married and had kids with. One day Yvonne gets a visit from the cops with the bad news that Scarlet is dead and her 2 granddaughters – Daisy and Alice need a new home because their father Vince, is not suitable to take care of them.Yvonne thinks Vince had something to do with Scarlet’s death, since after all he left her for another woman, but the police can’t prove it. The girls go to live with Yvonne and it’s quite an adjustment for everybody at first. Yvonne gets along better with Alice who is 7, but has her work cut out with Daisy who is 9.Throughout the book, we see Vince trying to get his life together so he can get custody of the girls, but things aren’t so easy for him. We also learn that Yvonne has a huge secret and if exposed, she’ll lose custody of the girls. The book is fast paced and I was engaged the entire time. I did not see the twist at the end coming. This was definitely a good read!Thank you Joffe Books for the digital arc.

A bit perturbed
Although I have given this book a 4 star rating, on reflection I feel that is generous. The story was good, the characters likeable especially Vince the lovable rogue. It did drag a little about two thirds through but all in all pretty good. What prompted me to write a review is the part in the story where the grandmother plays a 'joke'. A friend of the girls comes to visit and the mother tells Yvonne (grandmother) when offered cake that her child is allergic to nuts. Yvonne doesn't believe it as her own granddaughter pretended she was allergic to cats forcing Yvonne to rehome her beloved cat. So Yvonne felt she wanted to test the guests child. As the mother of a daughter with a serious nut allergy I would like to say that this should NEVER be taken lightly. As it turned out the child vomited and recovered, in real life it could have been so much worse. Alright I hear you say, it's just fiction but even so, for nut allergy sufferers it is no laughing matter.

a book that didn’t really have an ending
I really enjoyed this book until the last page I had already worked out who the social worker was but I did not like the ending at all its as if the author wanted us to keep guessing what happened next sorry but a disappointing ending for me
