Keychron Q1 HE Wireless Custom Magnetic Keyboard, QMK Launcher

I don't even know how to start this review. Well, I have to admit that I was not sure about getting this keyboard. I have been using a Ducky One 60% layout to play FPS games, however, I wanted to have a keyboard that would allow me to control the volume and also that has arrow keys, a keyboard that I can use for gaming and productivity. Since I have heard a lot about Wooting keyboards, I wanted to try a keyboard with a hall effect switch. I The Keychron Q1 HE is everything I was looking for, the build quality is superb, and the keycaps are one of the best I have ever used. The feeling of the keyboard for typing and gaming is super quiet and I don't have to worry about waking my wife while gaming. This is a heavy keyboard in a very good way, the hall effect switches are super nice, and the web software is super intuitive and easy to use. There is almost nothing to complain about. The only few things are that this keyboard does not have adjustable feet, so you are stuck with the default position, however, is not bad at all. Another thing is that when I set the actuation point of the S key to less than 0.5 the key will somehow stuck, this was very frustrating while I was gaming. I did not have any problem with the other keys that I set to 0.2 actuation point they worked just fine my only problem was with that specific key, I don't know if this is a defective key or if that was a software-related problem. I was able to work around this issue by setting the S key to the 1.0 actuation point. Overall, I am super pleased with this keyboard, I will continue buying more keyboards from this brand they are top-of-the-line products. I will recommend this product to anyone who wants a keyboard in a small form factor for gaming, media, and typing.

The Keychron Q1 HE is a solid, high-quality keyboard. The magnetic switches offer a smooth and responsive typing experience, and the customization options are a nice bonus. It has a hefty, premium feel on the desk and performs well for both work and gaming. A bit pricey, but overall it delivers on what it promises and is definitely the best keyboard I have owned to date by a large margin.

I was looking for a keyboard that supported HE/rapid trigger for Valorant that I can also daily outside of playing Valorant. I would have bought a Wooting, but 60HE had too few keys to daily and the 80HE just didn't seem like a good value compared to these. Overall, I'm really glad I chose these as I don't really feel like I'm missing anything. PROS: - Form factor that makes it perfect for my use cases of programming + gaming - Keyboard has a very premium feel/weight with the case being aluminum based I believe. - Browser-based to program the keys/turn on features rather than needing to download some proprietary software. - Comes with RGB and 20 different RGB effects on the software. - Subjective, but these are one of the best switches that I've used. I really like the heftiness of the default switches that it comes and the sound it comes with. CONS: - Small annoyances in the software - such as rapid trigger needing to be re-enabled when you change the actuation force on a key. Also, you can't see both the actuation force and the rapid trigger threshold at the same time.

I’m not a custom mechanical keyboard enthusiast, but I do appreciate the difference between a good and a bad keyboard. This is easily the best writing experience I’ve ever had, which makes the high price well worth it. The build quality is solid, durable, and as a result, quite heavy. I did run into some issues with VIA customization, though I was eventually able to remap a few keys after some trial and error. That feature is especially useful given the limited number of keys available. The Hall Effect switches also caused some programs to mistake the keyboard for a gamepad. Moonlight-Stream was particularly troublesome, but I expect this to be a temporary issue. Hall Effect switches are clearly here to stay, and software will catch up.

As someone who works in an office at a computer for 8-12 hours a day having a nice keyboard is something I really appreciate and this is definitely a very nice keyboard. Everyone loves the sound these switches making and you can definitely feel how durable this thing is. However while being very durable it is definitely very heavy as well with the metal base. Super comfy to use and I love the button layout on this so not having the numpad and just having the essential other keys to make it more compact was perfect for me. I can't speak to the battery life on it due to the fact I just keep it plugged in unfortunately. Due note this is very heavy to travel with. Little heavier then my 17" gaming laptop. To me as someone who spends a lot of time on a computer and enjoys hearing switches it's definitely worth it. If you don't enjoy hearing switches definitely not something for you. PROS Durable Comfortable Smaller Nice Sounding Switches CONS Heavy Switches are kind of loud but not necessarily unpleasant

Pros: Keys and switches are nice. Windows/Mac switcher is nice as I regularly switch between the two. The weight and metal body make it nice to type on, especially if you are a heavy/fast typer. Cons: Battery life is non-existent so it will spend 99% of its time plugged in. When connected wirelessly it will constantly disconnect requiring switching the input modes (Bluetooth, Cable, Wireless) multiple times before the keyboard turns back on. You cannot adjust the wrist angle so if the angle is uncomfortable you're better off returning it. Sometimes when connected wirelessly, when the keyboard is turned back on it will endlessly send inputs to the computer so you have to disconnect the keyboard and reconnect it. If the battery is dead, and you're plugged in via cable mode, it still has to charge the battery before you can use it. The software to change settings being web-based is annoying and buggy.

I really wanted to like this keyboard, but I can only give it two stars because my unit arrived with multiple quality control issues right out of the box. The first problem is cosmetic. One of the keycaps has visible ink overspray, and the aluminum case also has a paint blemish. I included photos showing both defects. For a keyboard in this price range, that kind of finish issue is frustrating. I contacted Keychron support about it. They offered to replace the keycap, which is fair, but for the paint defect on the metal frame they offered $5 compensation. For a $200+ keyboard that’s marketed as a flagship product, that response honestly felt ridiculous. The keycap design is also not great in my opinion. This model comes with Keychron’s OSA profile, and after using it for a while I found it uncomfortable. I previously used the KSA keycaps on the Q1 Max, and those felt noticeably better. With OSA I kept making mistypes and accidental presses while typing. Eventually I replaced the stock keycaps with a third-party Cherry profile set, and my typing speed immediately improved. The stock switches also feel heavier than expected. If you’re used to lighter switches like reds, these magnetic switches feel noticeably stiffer. Some users have noted the same thing with Keychron’s HE switches, which can feel progressively heavier during presses. Another big problem for me is the stabilizer tuning. My spacebar stabilizer had wobble and rattle from day one. When I press the left side of the spacebar it sounds solid, but pressing the right side produces a noticeable rattling noise. Unfortunately I hit the spacebar with my right hand while typing, so that noise was constant. I eventually had to disassemble the keyboard myself to improve it. I swapped the spacebar stabilizer with the Delete key stabilizer, and removed the small pad that was installed underneath the stabilizer. That reduced the noise significantly, but this is something I should not have to do on a brand-new keyboard. I also noticed scratchy or slightly metallic noise from some of the switches. After using the keyboard for a while I figured out which switches were causing the issue and moved them to keys around the edges that I rarely use. That made typing much more pleasant, but again it required extra work. The frustrating part is that the keyboard actually has a lot of potential. Battery life and connectivity are actually pretty good. The keyboard can reach around 100 hours of use with RGB turned off, which is decent for magnetic switches keyboard. Switching between my devices is straightforward. The aluminum case is solid. But for something that costs this much and is marketed as a flagship product, the fit, finish, and tuning should be much better out of the box. Right now it feels like something that requires a lot of tinkering just to reach the level I expected from the start.

As a software developer, I spend most of my day typing, so I’m probably more picky about keyboards than the average person. After using the Keychron Q1 HE for a few weeks, I can honestly say it’s one of the best keyboards I’ve owned. The build quality stands out immediately. The aluminum case feels incredibly solid, and there’s zero flex. Typing on it feels smooth and consistent, whether I’m writing code, responding to messages, or working through long debugging sessions. I was initially curious about the Hall Effect switches because of all the hype around adjustable actuation and rapid trigger features. While those are great for gaming, what I appreciated most was being able to fine-tune the keyboard to match my typing style. It actually made the experience feel more natural and comfortable during long workdays. The wireless connection has been reliable, battery life has been good so far, and switching between my work laptop and personal machine is effortless. The sound is also excellent—quiet enough for meetings but satisfying enough that typing feels enjoyable. It’s not a cheap keyboard, but after trying several mechanical keyboards over the years, this is one of the few purchases that genuinely felt worth the money. If you spend hours every day in front of a computer, you’ll probably appreciate the difference.
