Great Book, Missing Content
Don't get me wrong, this is a great book and I highly recommend it. However, it has a DVD inside that is supposed to contain over 1,000 free sounds from two recordists. Half of the sounds are missing, namely, David Yewdall's library. There is an email listed on the DVD about getting more sounds, and it is apparently discontinued. I returned the book in exchange for a new one, same issue. I have looked for ways to contact the seller but Amazon seems sparse on those options. Hopefully this can be fixed, I would prefer to leave 5 starts.

The best book on sound I have found so far
I'm a filmmaker and just recently I have been really into sound recording. I've been looking for some great manuals that would teach me things from recording sound in the field and studio to editing sound in a software. This book goes into great detail for all of that but it also goes into details about how to use the equipment properly and how to have stamina when on the job because our bodies can get tired and we can hurt our backs running around with that equipment. The book goes into detail how to use our bodies properly. Everything you need to know about sound is in this one book and what's awesome is it comes with a DVD to.Excellent book. Best to use it as a manual, you will not be sitting down to just read this thing through.

Mad but interesting
This man has some self-esteem issues. He's like the dad in Death of a Salesman. "Liked but not well liked". But lots and lots of detail about how sound is created for film, especially the older processes.

Real world experience put into a book
One of the best books, in my opinion, of post-sound work, David Yewdall tells a lot of stories of what happens in practice in the sound for film industry in Hollywood. His wealth of knowledge, really shines through, though in this digital age, some of the information regarding the old film world, will soon be dated, if not already. However, sound is sound and his knowledge still applies today and the good news is, in this latest edition, he covers the digital age ground as well.If you're looking for a step-by-step instruction manual on post-sound workflows and techniques, this manual, probably doesn't do that. But it does give you real life/world experience examples of how they do it, so it is very handy to use this manual, in combination with post-production workflows you are taught at film schools or university (if that is, they teach it at all!).
