I bought these because I really wanted something I could have on hand for a low-carb snack, that wasn't sweet and wasn't a protein bar. (Don't get me wrong, I love my protein bars, I just wanted something savoury that was portable and convenient.) I've tried different biltong snacks before and they vary in quality, with South African's often telling me that the ones I didn't like were the most authentic. Well, I guess I just don't have a sophisticated Afrikaner palate, lol!Anyway, when I saw this Skibbereen brand and read the comments, it seemed to be indicative of a variety that was less oily that others and not as chunky as some of the types I'd disliked in the past. I ordered the cider flavour because it was the only one that was available at the time, but having tried this variety I'm definitely interested in also checking out the chili flavour this brand also makes.The pieces of meat are small and thinly sliced, perfectly cured with no hint of rare/rawness to any of it (which was something I disliked about other brands I've tried in the past) and the cider flavour is a nice tangy sweet & sharp combo that tantalises the tastebuds in much the same way as a decent bag of salt & vinegar crisps. There was just enough to hit the spot and leave me wanting more, but not so much as to make me want to open up another bag immediately after. Eating low-carb means you have a lower appetite anyway, so you get used to needing to eat a lot less to satisfy whatever craving you might be having.I like the design and the packaging; nice clean lines on a bright blue bag. I opted for the 8 x bag multipack, which is probably the exact right amount I'm likely to consume during a calendar month. I've added them to my 'Subscribe & Save' orders because they're definitely a repeat purchase for me. As I said I also look forward to trying their chili variety in future, because the texture of the meat and the size of the pieces meant that they were all perfectly cured to the exact level of maturation I was hoping they would be.If you like beef jerky and want to see if you'll like biltong, this might be a good brand to start off with as it's not as chunky and the curing process has worked its way through all of the meat in a very even way, so each bite is exactly the same (except for the bit right at the bottom of the bag where you get a little bit more of the cider flavouring, but isn't that the best part about any bag of salt and vinegar type flavoured products?)I'll definitely recommend this brand to other people and in the mean time keep it on repeat order, because it's a perfect addiction to my low-carb way of eating.
