Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: 7 Ways to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression, and Intrusive Thoughts

Great book!
I found this book truly inspiring and helpful. Lawrence Wallace writes an easy to follow self help guide to mastering the benefits of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The idea behind CBT is that you can change your thoughts and therefore improve your reaction to emotions that you cannot change in situations, helping you with anxiety, stress, and depression to name a few. The book is, like I said before, set up for you to do entirely yourself. The author gives you the background to CBT in the beginning, showing you the idea behind it and helping you to understand the model of it, before giving you step by step how to begin your self practice with CBT, even granting a workbook in the final pages. I had heard of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy before, but I have to admit I didn't know as much as I thought. This book really informed me, some of the things I had come across felt like ah-ha moments. In short, I believe this book will help people connect with themselves on a new level just understanding that some intrusive thoughts are felt by all people and that they don't mean you are a bad person. Wonderful. One of the best books I have read this year to date, and I'm excited to keep up my own self practice of CBT because of this book. I highly recommend giving this a read.

Excellent intro to CBT
I've been looking for a simple, easy to navigate explanation of CBT. As a disabled woman, it's easy to feel depressed and anxious. Negative thoughts about my self and societal worth are frequently present, and it's very easy to fall into the trap of believing my limitations are catastrophic and unchangeable.Wallace's book is a simple, step by step guide to individual CBT. He is very understanding of the many different types of people who may be reading this book, and that makes it much more helpful than other guides that just focus on cookie cutter solutions. The workbook at the back is great, and the numerous suggestions for incorporating spiritual or secular beliefs were also helpful. I also really appreciated that a wide range of possible mood-lifting activities were suggested. Many other guides automatically assume an able-bodied readership, and activities tend to involve certain physical capabilities. The fact that Wallace listed nature documentaries as being a good solution for those that can't get time in nature made the book feel much more inclusive.I definitely have some friends I will recommend this book to!

Wonderfully Surprised
Concise. No wasted words, straight to the point, full, rich and most of all interesting. Most wonderfull is the embrace of religion, spirituality and philosophy as a practice in cognitive behavioral therapy. It is a breath of fresh air in an all too secular world. Word, meditation and prayer are highly valued. Philosophy, from the Greeks, is shown to embody much of what is cognitive behavioral therapy. Healthier living is also shown to influence ones thoughts and lives for the better.I was afraid this book would be long and tiresome but not so. At times I read a few paragraphs over. At other times I stopped to take in what I had read. Extremely informative on psychology, and puts forth a clear methodology to address ones thoughts and the foundations for those thoughts in an effort to make ones life better. Includes worksheets.Almost anyone, and I mean anyone, will find this book beneficial. It encourages one to seek professional help in certain more serious circumstances. I could describe this as the flesh and bone behind any self-help program.

Good advice that requires commitment not more money
I found this book to be a mostly easy read. Other than the occasional tangent into technical jargon, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Good advice that is easy to implement and doesnt cost much (if any) money. I liked that it mentions various religions without placing anyone above the others, allowing the reader to take in the knowledge without judgement. If you seek gentle guidance regarding depression, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts that provides, you, the reader, information and choices then this book is for you. Before reading Cognitive Behavioural Therapy I was unaware of this treatment style. I was pleased to learn how the simple steps provided in this short text can begin to help understand and work through various anxieties and depressions on many levels. The worksheets provided were utilized in the text to give structure to those who may need it, while leaving room for any free spirits to work in their own ways

Wonderful Guide to CBT
Lawrence Wallace presents an introduction and guide to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in a way that is both practical and gentle. His relatable, no-nonsense language makes this a fast and simple read, and those looking to utilize CBT as a tool for better mental wellness will be able to quickly and efficiently implement the 7 steps presented by Wallace to improve their lives. I appreciated the advice on incorporating philosophical and religious belief systems into one's CBT practice, as well as the suggestions for further reading and other healthy activities to improve mood and well-being. I consider this a must-read for anyone struggling with mental illness or stressful situations.

Very accessible and comprehensive!
Really pleased with this book. It’s been a good few years that I am interested in CBT and I already had some knowledge of it, but I find that this book is very helpful as it is so much better structured and, naturally, clear, than the scattered bits that I have picked up over the years. It certainly helped me to build a more structured understanding of CBT and both premise and philosophy of it. It helps to shake that unfair narrative of CBT being ‘behaviour control’ and helps to understand how and why it actually works. And, most importantly, who’s responsible for it working. Also, very helpful practical tool as the steps of CBT are nicely broken down which allows you to take the steps on your own without, hopefully, having to splash out on a therapist, when you may not have to. The realisation that you can do it yourself (and that you’re totally normal as very many people struggle with similar things, just to different degree) makes you feel somewhat empowered.Rekindled my old passion for CBT 😊

Straightforward and eye opening
This is the second CBT book I have purchased in the past couple of years but I am finding this one much more manageable so far. It describes our toxic mental processes in psychological terms but in an easy-to-understand format, prompting people to self-analyse independently. I'm about halfway through so far and feel that it will be very useful in this difficult time fore everyone. It's a text-based book rather than worksheet-based, which works best for me. I think information like this could be a help to anyone, even if you see yourself as generally mentally healthy.

Unbelievable simple
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – 7 Ways to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression and Intrusive thoughts by Laurence WallaceThis book is a concise and clear set of instructions to make a immediate use of CBT.Shares the information that the author wants to pass, that is result of his own experience without fantastic descriptions or very personal opinions. Does not include massive or unnecessary information of a academic book, what is great!Resumes the origins of the CBT from the antique currents of thinking. Frame it in the nowadays, highlighting the resemblances found in most of the religions, psychology and philosophy.Ends with the explanation of what can be a treatment with very easy guidelines, and adds advice about general lifestyle changes that enable the success of this method. It is very simple and readable that can be a tool used as self-help or by professionals of different areas like healers and counselors, carers, teachers and so.Following already some advice myself. As acupuncturist can see great use of this to pass some tips to my patients.Highly recommendable.
