Flooring Online UK Super Velvet - Felt and Rubber, Acoustic Carpet Underlay

This is Wilsons 'Super Velvet' and is an excellent underlay. The rubber base and felt upper is far denser than equally thick PU underlay I looked at in national carpet shops. It is very easy to lay and cutting it with decent sized scissors was very easy. It's weight meant it stayed in place when rolled out and didn't travel. It really is lovely underfoot and does a very decent job of reducing noise from the room below. Be aware that the roll may, for some, be quite heavy to lift, but that's due to its quality.I didn't notice any smell as others have mentioned, but I took the precaution of leaving it out of its bag (although still rolled) for a couple of days to be sure.Service was very good with quick delivery and the product well wrapped and boxed.Although more expensive than some other underlay, in my view this is worth every penny and I'll certainly be using more of this.

Easy to lay and as long as you use a hooked Stanley knife blade, extremely easy to cut.Excellent as a sound deadening layer as well as extra insulation under the carpet - I have used it in my wood-floored office and it has gone from me clomping around to silence.It is also nice and soft underfoot!Can't recommend enough

Having researched the various types of underlay using ChatGPT, this rubber (underside) / wool (top layer) 'combination' type seemed to come out on top. Specifically, Wilson's Super Velvet seemed to be considered top of the range (this is Wilson's although it isn't clear from the description).Delivery was better that expected as the product was sent overnight so I got next day (I did order in the morning).Product felt good and reassuringly comfortable to the touch.I laid myself and this was fine although the rubber crumb doesn't cut super cleanly so leaves a few crumbs - which are easily swept away.The carpet fitter commented on the underlay saying that this is the 'best stuff' but not the easiest to lay.Feels good and has a relatively high TOG rating (compared to PU and others) and should be slightly more moisture resistant that other types due to the rubber underside.

Really good quality thick underlay with rubber backing, I brought this sound deadening underlay to help stop the noise from kitchen in an upstairs bedroom, we boarded out first then lay underlay and carpet on top, it hasn't totally stopped the noise but has helped alot so am pleased with the results. People have said it's hard to cut, I found using a large pair of material scissors easier than a Stanley blade or hook blade and being a lady and doing the job myself didn't really have any problems laying it. Would definitely buy again.

As part of the process of soundproofing my flat, I chose this particular "acoustic underlay" due to its impressive 48db (impact) sound reduction rating. It arrived quickly, and from the weight alone you can tell this is a quality product.I should mention you will need a very sharp Stanley knife, or even special scissors to cut this underlay due to its 12mm thickness, and the type of materials used in its production. However, once it's down, you can immediately feel the quality underfoot. It feels very luxurious.I cannot comment on its "soundproofing" effect as it's too soon to say, but I will update this review once I'm finished.As it's rated for "impact" sound reduction, it will probably benefit the neighbours below more than myself, but I'm sure it will also have a slight dampening effect on sound from below as well. If you're simply looking for a quality underlay that feels fantastic to walk on, I would recommend this product, despite its expense.

Extremely happy with purchase. Used for stairs and landing. IMO this product will hold up for years around the "nose" of the stairs, and won't flatten over time like the all-oil-based 'intelligent' carpet underlays. The wool element is so tough that is very difficult to cut - *unless* you use a HOOKED BLADE!!! What a difference it made, plus you won't mark whatever surface you are cutting on ;)

Does a good job of noise reduction, my partner tends to leave the TV on loud downstairs so I know it works well. Only slight downside is it’s of course less comfortable underfoot than I’d like.

Used under a bedroom rug, no slipping now which it tended to before. Plus it’s miles more cushioned, made a big difference. Going to use the rest for other bedrooms. Recommend 100%: excellent seller for service, communication and product. Couldn’t be happier. Many thanks!
