CableCreation USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Adapter Cable, FTDI Chipset, 6.6FT/2M

I bought this to interface with some test equipment which had an RS-232 DB-9 port. Works great! It’s really well built and the (surprisingly long) cable is nice and sturdy. Even the port attachment screws are high quality. It showed up as an FTDI serial USB device on my Linux box without any extra drivers needed. It is even doing some pretty obscure DTR/DSR flow control.

I ordered this cable for CAT control of a Yaesu ftdx1200 - then I saw all the reviews saying this cable doesn't work for amateur radio control, and quickly ordered another cable with better reviews in this regard. Both cables arrived yesterday, and I pulled out the one that was supposed to work, and struggled with it for hours before thinking to give this cable a shot. Hooked it up, and worked the first time. I will need to exchange for a longer version, but that's on me. Edit: Using this cable with an ftdx1200 requires a female-to-female null modem adapter.

Using in a Ham radio connection. Works fine, but not plug and play, at least in win10, you need to download drivers

Worked great from my laptop usb to Dahua NVR serial port. NVR firmware had been corrupted as result of a failing UPS.

I bought this cable for use with my work computer which is running Windows 10 and is connected to a stand alone piece of equipment. As soon as I hooked it up it started working immediately - no adjustments - literally "plug and play". I am also very impressed with the quality; it's well worth the money!

This inexpensive purchase saved the day for me. I'm not normally out in the field and I needed to help my organization and save us some money by not flying an engineer in to console into these switches so I went hunting for this cable locally. In a city of over 300,000 people, no one had these cables so I purchased them from this vendor. S/he shipped these very economically priced cables to me in 2 days and they worked perfectly.

Update: Reached out to their customer service to see if they could offer any assistance or insight as to why the cable doesn't work. No response. Not a company I will do business with ever again. Original review: If you are looking for a cable that just doesn't function with the majority of devices, you found it! All my other usb-232 cables work just fine . . . this one shows up fine and looks great in device manager, but hook it up to something, and all you get is a message telling you an unidentified device has been connected or your baud rate is incorrect (confirmed the baud rate on the pc and device). No amount of trying other drivers or devices would make this cable work (though all my other FTDI cables from OTHER manufacturers worked just fine with each driver and device). After a frustrating 90 minutes, I remembered I had ordered another adapter cable from this company a few years ago that didn't work . . . wish I'd have remembered before ordering. Can't wait to get rid of this frustrating POS.

Not working and can not find any response from the supplier after asking them how to resolve this situation.

It works on a Debian 11 Linux system with stock kernel version 5.10, resulting in the device-file /dev/ttyUSB0 appearing when plugged in. What that means under Linux is, that any software which is supposed to be able to handle inbound serial connections, will work with this. This being a female serial connector, the following command will allow an old-fashioned terminal to log in: # /sbin/agetty -8 -L -w ttyUSB0 9600 unknown I tested this with an Android terminal app on my phone, and with a matching Male USB adapter. Doing the experiment reminded me of just how finicky serial terminal connections can be. I not only had to set the terminal app to 8 bits, zero parity, but to one stop bit as well. Also, the setting above matches the fact that the terminal app is a dumb terminal, which will not support any ncurses-based UIs. Any terminals that were in-use after 1980 were assumed at least VT100-grade, and many Linux programs will assume as much. Finally, the command above will only exit naturally, when the Linux session has done so. -Dirk
