Amazing Outdoor Search Flashlight
This is really one heck of a great value. I use the Streamlight SL-B26 rechargeable batteries for full power (important). The light output is obviously higher than most lights under $200. Yes I have EDC size lights that can match the high setting...for a minute or so, then they ramp WAY down. This light ramps down from about 3200 lumen after a minute or two, but the ramp-down is slow and gradual, keeping a pretty high level for five or six minutes, when it ramps down to about 1600 lumen which it will maintain for nearly 30 minutes. From there ramp-down is gradual and you get about 1.5 hours with some level of light. After the first minute of approximately equal performance to this light, my smaller EDC lights ramp down to around 1000 lumen, where this light is still rocking much more power for quite a while. And the EDC lights also ramp-down from 1000 lumen in short order, so after a while this light is putting out far more light than the EDC lights. This is a big light that is probably too big for duty carry for most, however the large size is what allows it to dissipate heat as well as it does, which in turn allows for the long run times at high brightness. This is the light you want handy when something outdoors goes bump in the night. Yes you can click multiple times to get lower light settings, but I find the switch feel and the process somewhat annoying. This light is made to go outdoors, on high, and provide a lot of light, for a long time. Though there's a lot of really nice spill, the lens still manages a fairly long but wide throw that will put a wide spot on things at considerable distances. Light color is a tiny bit warm for my taste (I like really cold white light) but this light temperature is still good. When the desert dust starts blowing around at night, I actually find that this light temperature works better than the super white lights, where the super white beams reflect back too much. This temperature cuts through very well, and that is worth mentioning. Battery life is very good. Build quality is professional-level in all ways, except for the need to remove batteries to charge (might be annoying for full-time everyday use). All said, every serious flashlight person should have one.

Super bright but eats batteries
I work nights for a city PD. I use this light nonstop. The first one I bought, my 2 year old got ahold of it and dropped it and broke it immediately. Amazon replaced it super quickly. Ever since I haven't had a problem. The light is insanity bright! I use it nonstop and plan to buy a second one. The one recommended is buying multiple sets of the rechargeable batteries. I used the CR123 batteries and they would die within a week. The rechargeable batteries die after 3 or 4 days. That's with me using it almost nonstop for 8 to 10 hour shifts. Multiple sets of rechargeable batteries will help keep it alive. The brightness makes it worth constantly charging the batteries.

This is a bright flashlight.
The size is reasonable and the brightness is incredible. The battery life is ok, but it doesn't dim before being dead, it just quits. Have some extra batteries on hand. This is my go to "extra big" scene flashlight for ambulance work. It fits in my pocket (long enough to carry back to the truck) and illuminates an area almost as well as the portable light stands we carry.

Streamlight Protac HL5-X
First off this flashlight is a beast! It's a little bigger than I expected but feels solid in the hand. The handle has a rubberized coating which helps increase grip. I happened to purchase this light with the Streamlight CR123A batteries and I did some brightness testing compared to some Orbtronic 3,400 mAh 18650 cells I had laying around. The Orbtronic cells are re-branded Panasonic NCR18650B cells with added protection by Orbtronic. Streamlight's CR123A batteries produced a peak output of 33,381 candela compared to a peak output of 37,000 candela specified by Streamlight. The Orbtronic 18650 cells were able to produce a peak output of 46,144 candela compared to a peak output of 51,000 candela specified by Streamlight. I'm not sure if using Streamlight's 18650 cells would make up the additional 4,856 candela but overall I'm very satisfied with the output using the Orbtronic 18650 cells. You can use other 18650 cells so don't think you are only limited to Streamlight as an option. However I do appreciate the dual fuel option allowing for the use of either CR123A or 18650 batteries. Doing a runtime test using Streamlight's CR123A batteries yielded the whole 1 hour 30 minutes and after allowing at least 12 hours of rest the voltages of each cell are as follows:Cell 1: 2.674 voltsCell 2: 2.634 voltsCell 3: 2.626 voltsCell 4: 2.660 voltsAs you can see these CR123A batteries were pretty much fully depleted and frankly a protected 18650 cell would probably have cut the current to the diode before this point. As I mentioned before this flashlight is large. A benefit of this is the heatsink is also large which allows for good heat management. The head of the flashlight stayed under 115 deg F in a room at 70 to 73 deg F and the handle stayed between 100 to 105 deg F. The TenTap programming also worked without fail. The trick is to do nine half presses instead of full clicks and then push and hold the switch on the tenth time until the light turns off. At this point it's in the on position so then you push the switch again to put it in the off position. From here when you do half presses to scroll through a particular mode it should have switched modes. If not just go through the procedure again and it should switch modes. If you use 18650 cells you need to make sure it can handle the discharge current required to run this flashlight. The 18650 cells I was using for this test are able to handle a continuous discharge current of 2C (6,800 mA). Honestly I would recommend sticking with a protected 18650 manufactured by a brand name like Panasonic as it's a shot in the dark using a no name 18650 cell made in China. Chinese made cells don't always have the best quality control and the Panasonic cells are made in Japan. Overall this is a very solid light for the price and I highly recommend it.

Stupid Bright, Well built, Dual Fuel is excellent.
I’ve been waiting for this for a while. Stupid bright, great beam pattern. I ordered it today and did same day prime shipping which is awesome. Very solid build and works perfectly with the orbtronic 18650. I use the 3500 mah Orbtronic batteries and they work in the HLx I have also. Zero complaints and very happy with this flashlight. I assume it will be as reliable and durable as the other streamlight flashlights I have.

Does not come with rechargeable batteries
Great flashlight! Very well built and bright when on the high setting. However, I ordered the version which includes the rechargeable batteries but received CR-123s.
